I have a k7s5a from elite and I can assure you that this is not an i810 chipset from intel!!! I can't see why Intel is making chipset for AMD. It is a sis735 chipset, not an intel.
I must admit I have the same problem as you with this driver.
It is a good job though, because now I have sound, but it is not perfect with a DVD for example it is a bit anoying to hear some little crash from time to time and to see the CPU already busy by the decompressing process of the DVD, to have to handle the sound (I have a TBird 900)
I hope to see an update, because what you did is just great but it still need improvement I think, just a little bit and it will be perfect, good job ;o)

I'm currently using this driver with the integrated
sound chip of an Elite K7S5A motherboard (i810).
I noticed several strange things :
- when I play a mp3, the sound quality is not perfect,
a bit as if it was downsampled. I didn't notice it at
first. Maybe it's b/c I could only select 48000 hz in the
media center ??
- also, when I play a mp3 with CL amp, the system seems
to be slowed down (I have a Duron 1000 ghz 384 MB ram).
Pulse indicated around 25 / 40 % of CPU usage !!!!!
(here with A player and a 128 kbps mp3)
I tried a VBR with CL amp : it goes up to 50 % of CPU usage !!
- other than that, cf my previous message :)
Anyways, thanks A LOT for what you've done so far !

Please, if you have problems with this driver, follow the instructions in the readme file. I really love getting feedback by email. I have a driver binary available that has debugging code enabled. It generates information that may help to track down the problem. But I only can help you when I know which chipset you are using, so make sure to include this information.
From the Readme file:
If the Driver Doesn't Work
================
If the driver doesn't work, you may need to alter some
settings in your computer's BIOS.
1) If there is a BIOS option to select the operating system,
select "Other". Do not select "Windows98 / Windows 2000".
2) If there is a BIOS option called "PnP OS installed" select "No"
or "Disabled". Do not select "Yes" or "Enabled".
3) If there is a BIOS option called "AC97 audio" select "Auto"
or "Enabled". Do not select "Disabled".
4) If there is a BIOS option to assign an IRQ to "INT2" or "PINB",
make sure it is set to "Auto" or a free IRQ. Do not use "none".
5) It may also help to enable a "AC97 modem" option.
6) If you can't get it working, send me an email.
Include the name of your motherboard and it's chipset, a URL
to the board on it's manufactor's website would be nice.
Also include the Vendor ID and Card ID that is displayed
by the Devices preference application for all devices called
"Sound".

| Regarding VIA chipsets |

AC97 is a codec interfacing standard. The AC97 codec is the
chip that turns digital samples into analog voltage, and vice versa.
This means, a large number or different vendors can produce
codecs which are all compatible.
But, to interface with these codec, the driver needs to talk to the
host chipset, which will forward the data to the codec, using a
connection called AC Link.
Different host chipsets exist, and all are compatible with other
AC97 compliant codecs.
But, to talk to the host chipset, one needs to use vendor specific
commands. Intel for example has documented how to send data
to the codec, and how to receive it. The SIS 7012 chipset uses
nearly the same command interface. The Nvidia nForce, and two
AMD chipsets are considered to be compatible, too.
VIA chipsets use a entirely different command interface,
so does the SIS7018. This means, this driver is not able to
support VIA or SIS7018 or any other not Intel compatible
host chipset, although they all are AC97 compliant.
I'm sorry guys, it will not work with VIA.
Aditionally, each kind of chipset has its own ID number. The driver
only gets activated when it detects a ID that it can support.
If you install the driver on a computer using VIA chipset on
board, it will not be active, as could not do anything regarding
sound output with this chipset.
The number of donations I received until now is pretty low,
only two people decided to donate. I also do not have any
VIA hardware. This means, I'm not going to write a VIA
driver anytime soon, sorry.
The driver author.

I have a VIA MB with this and it didnt really do anything...it sounds more crackly now, if anything...my one problem now is that I can't find a way to uninstall it and get my old drivers back...and is there any possibility that you could work on a VIA one next?

It gives louder sound so i don't have to max values in mixer and volume on speakers as with emu10k for my SBLive :)
Only thing is that it eats mych more processor time than emu10k.
THX for Your work!
