It's possibly too many updates. So you may experience some unpleasentries in the next update - hopefully you don't, I've done a fair bit of testing. But if you do... well... the project is still pretty infant.

I know, I thought it was pretty funky that;
a) BeOS was the first non-Windows OS to have an interface to NetMDs
b) That I wrote it ;)

Once OpenNMD figures out writing / ATRAC3 compression I'll have it ported to libbenetmd in hopefully no more then a week. It's something I'm really hankering for.

>This tool makes my MZ/N1 more valuable.

Glad to hear it. Mine too.

That's an impressive list of updates!

I was actually really surprised back in August when I was looking for a graphical front-end to OpenNMD and a BeOS one was the only one I found! Couldn't be better (well, it could if OpenNMD could get song transfering and ATRAC3 compression working - hope it's just a matter of time)

This tool makes my MZ/N1 more valuable.

Thanx again, laters...

Thanks, it's always good to hear positive feedback.

The new version will have lots of goodies. Detailed track info (Format, bitrate, stereo, length, group, check out status) and disc info (disc time, available time, used time, number of tracks, number of groups). More features: moving groups, moving tracks into / out of groups, playing a track from the track window, track deletion, nuking a disc, etc. I'll put up another screenshot when I get home just to tease you ;)

I mostly just need to do some cleaning of rough edges before release. But that probably won't happen until post Uni exams (November 21)

Thanks :)

Now I'm just waiting for next upgrade (checking your webpage a few times a week).

Keep it up!

If by "down here" you mean "Australia"... they are. They are just uber expensive. (I live in Australia). Most places sell the N505 and N707. Both portable NetMD recorders. However they'll cost you a pretty penny. I bought my N1 from minidisco.com but I wasn't happy with their service. I recommend minidisc.com.au, it's a bit more expensive then minidisco.com but the guy who runs it is nice and it's still a lot cheaper then in stores

As to that particular model... I don't think it will work with the current libbenetmd / BeNetMD. But if you were to get it's ProductID (I imagine it would have the same VendorID) and send that to me, it should work.

>and your app uses the PC Link Kit?

NetMDs come with a USB port which allows full control over the player / recorder. Allows recording, titling, moving, deletion, group control etc. BeNetMD doesn't support all that _just_ yet. But it will soon.

is this it?

OpenMG has never been _too_ bad for me. It's crashed maybe once. That being said, I've only used it maybe 3 times. I've found SimpleBurner is much better. Although it only writes from CD (Or mounted CD Images)

>But I love the MD format for traveling and mixes. Now I

I can't agree with you more. The battery life on MD players kills MP3 players. LP2 allows 2 1/2 hours on a 74 minute disc. And you can take multiple discs with you. Sure, new generation MP3 players might be able to store 20 gigs of music... but you can only get like 5 hours play time out of them or something. My N1 can get 110 hours. Oh and Sony, feel free to hire me ;)

>thanks to the Open NetMD team!

Definately. Without the work of the OpenNMD team BeNetMD would just be an ugly interface that does nothing. That being said libbenetmd is totally different to libnetmd.

I tried to use a link from the MiniDisc Community, but the link was dead.

Same here, MD players are the only way to have portable music in my opinion.

Trust me, I have _EVERY_ intention of providing all functionality available for the NetMDs. I use BeOS. I use NetMDs. I don't want to have to reboot to Windows / use my slow laptop in Windows to make full use of my NetMD player.

>Any chance of providing support for copying "from" the >NetMD to the Hard Drive in an editable format? I understand what you mean. If it's possible, it will be added at some stage. The reason this is not avaiable currently (Using OpenMG) is so that Sony can say the NetMDs comply with the SDMI (Or is it SMDI ?) specifications. Which is all well and good. However, I for one am not sure if the NetMD itself is unable to upload to the computer of if OpenMG is just lacking that functionality. A lot of people seem to think it's the NetMD. I'm not convinced though, from what I've read of other companies NetMD players (The Panasonic one, in particular, I believe), they do support upload. That's not to say the Sony ones definately do. But NetMD is a Sony extension to the MD standard... seems a bit wierd that Panasonic would then add something onto the standard and be able to get away with it. That's just my take on it though. I may have completely misread the Panasonic's (Or whatever company it was) info.

Anytime!

I have owned Sony MD Player/Recorders for several years now and I love the format!

It is great to see that in the future there is going to be some support for using the NetMD players ( I bought the sport model as soon as it was on the shelves ).

Any chance of providing support for copying "from" the NetMD to the Hard Drive in an editable format? This would be real handy for those that want to use the device to record "live" audio in the field, then bring it back and edit the audio before outputing to WAV, MP3 or OMG format. I know of a bunch of musicians that would love to use the NetMD in this manner.

Thanks!

Put it this way... it's planned. As to when... I honestly couldn't tell you. Most of my work is based off the OpenNMD project... so the sooner they get it figured out, the sooner I'll be able to port it to libbenetmd.

As to LP2/4 vs SP. It's the same thing. The way NetMDs work is they get sent an OMG (OpenMusicGateway) file which contains the audio.

Writing a track is pretty close to being done, I believe. (It's been successfully done once or twice) However at this point the OMG file is pretty much a mystery. So even once writing a track can be done reliably, you would still have to use Sony's (Or Panasonic / Phillips / Etc?) implementation to create the OMG file. If that makes sense?

The developers on the OpenNMG are pretty amazing and are working at an amazing pace. I believe everything has been figured out except for Write track and the project has only been active since about May.

As to the issue of buying a NetMD. I highly recommend it... these things are so goddamn sexy.

What are the chances of being able to write tracks? (esp. with LP support), as being able to connect it to my BeOS machine may well sway me into buying such a thing....
