Looks like a very promising format, would be great to see an encoder on BeOS (seeing that I don't use windows).
A FLAC plugin would be nice also. :)

I'd take a Soundplay plugin.
Also, I am unable to play monkey's audio files from a mounted NTFS 5(from 2k) partition in CL-AMP. If I copy the files over to the BFS parition, though, they play just fine.

I didn't write SoundPlay plugin because I rarely use SoundPlay. But, SoundPlay is a popular application. So, I'll try to write SoundPlay plugin if many people want it.
Anyone who want SoundPlay APE plugin, please tell me.

Thank you for informations about codecs. It's a shame that APIs are private.
I'll write codecs or CL-Amp plugin for OpenBeOS after OBOS's release.

It's normal you didn't find any info on system codecs, because the API wasn't public. It was "supposed" to be made public when it was finalised, but Be kept it private for more than 2 years, and never released it :-(((
Since some people have the necessary header files, they could make system codecs from the FLAC, Shorten, ... libs, but, at least for myself, we are focussing on creating a new API for OpenBeOS, and we'd better work on this first, then create codecs for the new API.

not to dump on APE's debutante moment in the BeOS world, but if you're looking for lossless encoding tools, you'll find them both with shorten and FLAC, both of which have command-line encode/decode binaries already available. i've even written an updated RipEnc that allow for lossless encoding options -- check it out! (CL-Amp already can play back shorten (.shn) files, but not .flac.)

Mmm, system decoder...
I don't know how to write BeOS system decoder at all. I searched the document to write system decoder, but, I couldn't find.
I think that it is good for BeOS to support new format, too. So, I want to write system decoder if there are some advice / sample codes / manual web pages. Please help me.

I think timezero was reffering to BeOS system decoders, as used by the mediakit. I know we all have our favourite players/editors etc - and its all very well to support them, but by writing to the standards provided by the system, _any_ app that uses these can benefit. That benefits BeOS as a whole - and in the long term, means more users for your preffered player :)
