Added the leveleditor and the conversation tools with the zip. Due to using prefix extract the zip to /boot/apps/Games in R5 and Haiku (ZETA uses autoinstaller).

I know. I get an automatic notification email whenever a new version is released. But I do not have time to make an update now.

If somebody wants to make more frequent updates of the BeOS build, please contact me.

I enjoy this game very much, perhaps some better sounds, maybe some battle sounds or something would be nice.

Also, on large battlefields, some scroll bars would be nicer than switching to the map view.

Just my 0.03$ (adjusted for inflation)

Hardcoded paths

Is there any chance Crimson Fields will be modified to use other folders than /boot/apps/games/crimson? I like to keep system- and user-apps seperated.

The game looks interesting though...

I'm gratefull for the development of this game but I'm rather disapointed at the fact the path has been changed & now I have to add a deeper directory structure to run the game. I hope to see future releases not force us to place the game in places wher we dont want it.

SDL libraries

Michael,
please put the SDL libraries you have compiled with on the /lib directory of the game. This way, you are sure you do not create a Linux-like dependancy hell, you do not create inconvienience to your users and you are making sure that everything will be compatible.

I have ported a large number of SDL games on BeOS and in the beginning I was just sending off people to download the SDLGameLibs, but after some time, it was clear that the best way was to simply inlcude ALL the needed third party libraries on the /lib directory of the games. It worked like a charm for everyone, including newbies.

This is a game, so it has to be easy to use for everyone.

>Any chance of you releasing the BeOS x86 code?

I don't know if I understand you correctly. Do you want to make both ports (= configure --prefix=/boot/apps/crimson && make && make install) in the future?

Or should I add your PPC port to the downloads?

PPC Port

I ported this to the PPC after reading the entry last week. Didn't get round to testing it yet because the app to create the datafile wouldn't compile (the wonders of Metrowerks!), so I'm taking a copy from your distro.

Any chance of you releasing the BeOS x86 code? Whilst the port is a no brainer, it would be nice to have an all in one port to both platforms.

If you like this game, please thank the author Jens. You can find his email address in the README file.

About the crashes:
1) Use the latest versions of SDL and SDL_mixer. The are links to them at the Crimson Fields page.
2) I have release an old version of Crimson Fields and will make the update at the begin of the next week, maybe this fixes the problems.

The message box after the crash, is a bug in the run script. It can not decide whether the program crashed or could not be started because of missing libraries, please ignore this. I don't know if it can be fixed.

Hey, I just wanted to say thanks & drop a note about this. We are lacking in games badly & I love turn based stratagy. My only concern is I had it crash twice. Once on its first start it right away crashed & said it needed sdl & sdl mixer lib??? I have then so why is it saying this? So I started it again. It ran cool but then I was almost about to finnish my first game & it did the same thing. Crashed opening the read me & saying it needs sdl stuff. I'll run it from the terminal from now on to see what it feeds back but untill I get another crash keep a look out for said bug or problem folks
