Thanks for doing the compile and upload of FireFox. I'm posting this using FireFox 2.0.7 under BeOS R5.0.3 Pro - I greatly appreciate having a version for R5 that works!

the https site crashing bug sure is irritating, i found a "solution". I run a movie in vlc to get a good stable cpu load, then i connect to the https sites. Once the time you usually crashed is far gone, you can stop the movie and continue the browsing.
See that like a game console swap disk trick.
As this seem really related to thread locking/scheduling, i wonder if haiku will have the same problem. Seem Beos do somehing faster than firefox/seamonkey acounted for.

In the folder at /boot/home/config/boot there should be 3 files, UserBootscript, UserSetupEnvironment and UserShutdownScript. You should not have to create any of them, but you may have to add these two lines to UserSetupEnvironment:
export LIBRARY_PATH=%A/.:%A/components:$LIBRARY_PATH
export ADDON_PATH=%A/.:%A/components:$ADDON_PATH
There's no need to edit the UserBootscript, AFAIK. FireFox only needs these changes to UserSetupEnvironment to run well. (It needs these hints on where to find its own components.)

This is a well-known problem. I believe we have a bug open on it already and fyysik mentioned he had some idea of the cause. His time is limited, however, and I'm just the build/test guy. In short, don't misplace your F11 key anytime soon.
For grins, you might try out the last Firefox 3 "bleeding edge" build posted elsewhere on BeBits. It contains rewritten BeOS code in a couple of areas.

Again, kudos. I was literally just yesterday looking for an update and wondering if BeOS was up to speed or not, and you were, and now you still are.
Unfortunately, I was looking for an update because of a problem I've been having lately, which has gotten worse as time goes on, and the new version didn't fix it. From random threads elsewhere I gather it happens on other platforms too, if it's the same thing: pages will get 'stuck' loading, and actually are loaded, just they won't display the new page, it looks as if Firefox is almost frozen instead. But pressing F11 (whether you were fullscreen or not to begin with) will wake it back up and everything is normal again, until you try to click a link, then same thing all over again. It used to be once in a while or seemed to be tied to certain sites, but now it's all the time on some sites and pretty often on others.
Sorry, I guess I should go report this on bugzilla?

Thanks a lot for this port! Now gnash and java it should be rather complete ;-)
I do have some little problems though, if I have a lot of tabs, say 20 I can click on image thumbnails in some tabs, the page gets loaded in the background but doesn't display until I press F5 and it sometimes won't go back either.

This is a well known problem that appears to be related to a race condition between multiple threads in the code. As such, it is highly machine dependent. Some users see it constantly, others rarely or never. Such conditions are very difficult to diagnose, especially in a project as large as Firefox. Not an excuse, just an explanation. We've been looking at this from many angles for a long time but never managed to squash this bug.
There are multiple reports of hangs on other platforms, none reported exactly like this, but each addressing problems in core code. We're hoping one of them will relate to our own troubles.

Is no one else having these problems? Every release of Firefox that I've installed has had a tendency to crash on me (window no longer updates) at the most awkward moments -- usually after I've just spent 10 minutes entering my credit card details! Exactly the same thing has happened to me with
the latest release. Tried 4 times. Each time it would die on me somewhere late in the field filling process -- different each time. (I'm running R5 BONE). I suppose it could be a memory problem, as I only have 132MB, but it is *extremely* frustrating!

If you're using the Zeta build:
"Zeta: for Zeta only; requires i686 (pentium II, Athlon) or later CPU. Zeta users with older systems should use BONE version."
That means it won't work in your K6-2 :(

I wholeheartedly agree, our community is too small for this kind of childish exchange. There has been plenty of discussion of Mr.X's relationship to the community in the past. If he continues to bait the team with inflammatory comments, let's do the community the courtesy of summarily ignoring them. When he contributes material that benefits the community AND conforms to the requirements of the project, then we'll happily incorporate it.
One of the challenges in trying to gain "semi-official" recognition by the mozilla project is, our delivered product must reflect that of the core development team. We cannot materially change the user interface or add-on components beyond those in the trunk. In short, our builds must look and feel like those of Linux, MacOS and Windows.
The ability to customize is inherent in Firefox; that's what add-ins are for. The proper place to put them is on the addins site and/or mycroft site if the creater wants official recognition.
I hope this helps folks understand why our builds of Firefox, etc, don't have every possible bell or whistle, regardless of how useful they might seem.
Now, let's end the name calling, and be adult enough to summarily ignore those who try to make us react. We have better things to do with our time.

BeOS Mr X, yes, maybe you were first in creating a BeBits plugin for Firefox. Or maybe this guy? Angelo Conforti: http://mycroft.mozdev.org/download.html?name=bebits&category=all&country=all&language=all&submitform=Search&sherlock=yes&opensearch=yes&skipcache=yes
It doesn't matter to me. I didn't find one that seemed right (an .xml file) for the latest Firefox, and I didn't think to search in Mozilla's database, so I simply took the file google.xml and adapted it.
If you want your stuff to be used, why don't you join the Bezilla team?

First he claims that "his" builds don't have the Net+ bookmarks patch - they do. Cause they ain't his. He can't build Firefox, he can't build anything in fact. He repackages the public builds.
Then he starts slanging other people in an attempt to promote his destabalised crap.
Can't you take a hint - you're banned from BeShare and most major BeOS sites because nobody wants to hear from you.

Thanks for the BeBits search plug-in. I don't think we can include a non-standard add-in with the "semi-official" builds, but maybe we can place a link to it on the Firefox page. Have you thought about submitting it to addons.mozilla.org to make it an "official" search engine addon?

When I build and test, especially when moving from one rev to another, I always start firefox from the command line, with the --profilemanager option for the 1st run. I create a new profile and make sure everything is working, then import my bookmarks. It's a bit of a pain to lose saved passwords, cookies, etc., but works better in the long run. When moving from one version to another (eg, 2.0 to 2.0.0.2), I'll delete my old firefox folder then unzip the newer version, and again run from the script on the 1st launch. I typically don't have to create a new profile in that environment, though.
To help figure out whether your issue is related to the R5 build or to something local, it might be worth trying to create a new profile and checking Firefox's behaviour.

Nope, now it's the same as before trying the FileTypes thing, there's loading action but nothing happens, no complaints either, with both firefox and firefox-bin from Tracker or Terminal.
And maybe the profile thing was a coincidence--it doesn't seem to be clearing those things anymore.

Yeah, it's true, these last builds have been working better and better, kudos to the team!
Thanks for the pointer tqh, but now it complains of missing libmozjs.so, which is right there in the directory. Console also gives "missing library" message. Also, just running it apparently wiped out part of my profile, because when I put my firefox backup back in place, it had forgotten all my saved passwords and such. Actually, maybe that and the history was all that was lost. Strange though.
I'll try putting those export settings in my environment script...just noticed that on the page. But I had never had to do this before (I don't really care about bookmarks or native-app launching or handling HTML files...I always just launch from SpicyKeys hooked up to the special "Internet" button on my keyboard.) I'll report back after a restart I guess.
Thanks!

So, here's yet another BeBits search plugin. It's .xml unlike the others I found here which end in .src and need a separate image file. Mine embeds the "favicon" used by BeBits, base64 encoded, so if you want to commit bebits.xml to Mozilla.org or whatever, it might be a good idea to ask BeBits if it's okay using their favicon, but I can't imagine they would be negative. (It's there to be used, right?)
Anyway, feel free to use this:
