This browser is the Best I used for BeOS R5. It would be my default but one thing that drives me mad is the drop list control used. When you start typing an address and a similar one is in the history list, the list opens and focus shifts to it, so you must click on the address to continue typing. This occurs very often. Also, When this occurs I cannot use the arrow keys to actually select something from the list. For me this would seem to be a high priorty bug fix, becaus this is common user interface stuff.

This is becoming a NetPositive user's dream.
Add printing and Java, perhaps flash and a few other plugins and you've got the best browser out there!
This R5.03 build however crashes once in a while under dano, perhaps if compiled under dano it would work better there.
YellowTab should use this as the new default browser for Beos/Zeta.

There is very annoying bug currently in Mozilla for all platforms related to fastload features. Maybe it affects Phoenix too.
Recommendations, if you had previously installed Phoenix versions (0.4 or 0.5)
1)Don't install it over (old install).
2) If it still don't start - search if there is something like XUL.mfasl in config/settings/Phoenix or config/Settings/Browser subfolders. Remove it and try again.
3) If still no luck - remove both appliaction folder and settings folder.

The version numbers don't really mean anything. It _SHOULD_ be "Phoenix version cvs", but I don't want it to say that on the front page because it just looks ugly and is harder to track things on the Talkback.
Originally I called it 0.5.1, but I decided since it had so many changes (especially after I put fyysik's graphics engine in) it deserved to be called 0.5.5.
So really, the only reason I'm calling it 0.5.5 is for it to look prettier on the front page at the Recent BeBits column and for Talkback.

AFAIK, so is BONE.
I asked that question 'cause I see that Mozilla has builds for both net_server and BONE. So, I thought that my (and others) problems with Phoenix in Dano are BONE related.

Dano was and is in an unfinished beta state. You cannot ever expect all apps to run perfectly on it, there will be problems that vary depending on what drivers you have loaded, hardware, etc. In any case, it's doubtful that it's BONE specifically that's the problem, since a problem there would more likely cause a system crash than an app crash.

Is it possibile to make Phoenix stable on BONE? In Dano, it is unusable 'cause of that... Crashes all the time. But on net_server, it is rock solid.

| 0.50 Typeahead find bug.... |

Sadly it seems 0.50 is ignoring the "false" settings on typeahead find in all.js (probably other things also)...
If you go to the "Tools" menu select "Preferences" then go down to "Privacy" you'll see a feild called "History"
Setting "Remember visited web pages for last [_] days" to 0 will stop the URL bar from remembering addresses and at least keep typeahead find from being a total pain in the ass.
Looks like Elliot isn't planning to do a new compile for a while and I wont use Mozilla.... so I may try and do the compile from cvs myself in the meantime. (I'm not a coder only a hacker, so don't get your hopes too high...)
In the meantime if you want 0.40 download BeShare and come chat with myself and all the other cool people there and download it from one of us.
If you haven't used BeShare... it's kind of similar to the windows file sharing clients with chat and the ability search peoples shared files.
If you need help, we don't bite. ;)
*much*

I've tried all the fixes to all.js and still having too many problems. I would have gone back to 0.4 if I had kept a copy so it's reluctantly back to Moz for a while.
To be more upbeat Phoenix has been a star up to this point and Moz must go as soon as things stabilise a little.

In the same file (all.js) search for 'ui.key' and switch the number 18 to 17 and 17 to 18. This should make the ctrl and alt buttons behave correctly if you have a problem with that.
pref("ui.key.accelKey", 18);
pref("ui.key.generalAccessKey", 17);
pref("ui.key.menuAccessKey", 17);

For those who are being irritated by the type ahead find bug. After getting annoyed with Mozilla I decided to figure out if I could fix it. Here's how, it's actually quite simple.
open /Phoenix/defaults/pref/all.js
in styleedit or beide (or whatever you like)
and set all the "typeheadfind" arguments which are set to "true" to "false". (here is an example of what needs to be set to false).
pref("accessibility.typeaheadfind", false);
pref("accessibility.typeaheadfind.linksonly", false);
pref("accessibility.typeaheadfind.startlinksonly", false);
That will disable type ahead find... and the bug that goes with it. :)

Finding phoenix is almost flawless except for a bug with type ahead find which causes the pull down url cache to open after every typed letter and at the same time remove the cursor from the address feild... so after every letter I type I have to click on the address field to type another. It gets very irritating.

Links, the text browser, also has a graphical version someone recently pointed out to me. However, I noticed that not only is it already written to compile under BeOS in text mode, there is a module for an AtheOS graphical output, which from what I know has a similar API, thus I reasoned that converting this to BeOS shouldn't be too hard. I might give it a go and see what happens, but I thought I'd mention it in case anyone else wanted to give it a try.
