I imagine your suffering from one of two possible things...
turn up the keyboard input in your keyboard preferences & also
in your bios... then try it.... plays great here & the input
is just as it was back in the day.

This is the kind of game I really like. Very nice. I have to say it the 'playability' is very crap yet, the ship hardly turns, it turns very slowly at each keyboard input. I didn't even win a fight yet, very hard to turn the ship. Hope the input becomes better soon.

It's actually quite intuitive.. If you played many games in the 90's, or if you played Star Control I and II ;) As far as I can remember, many games in the early 90s (and some applications) used "F10" to exit.

It won't be till after 1.0 im affraid, so it will be a little wait, were still rebuilding large parts of the game to shake the DOS and 3DO legacy out, the next major release should include a new resource system for handling the content files and the out takes and intro should be in.

Where exactly are you getting, what menu or place in the game?
If your floating around in a solar system, pressing space brings up your option menu, and pressing space gets out of it.
if you are at a planet, going to the Navigate option will get you back to a solar system,
if you are sitting on a planet Left Shift will lift you from the surface,
If you went to Melee i don't think there is a way to get back to the main menu yet,

I tried the space bar both ctrl buttons both alt both shift.

is a blank bind of "" but no comment to say what each bind
slot does.

When you're in a screen and want to go back to where you were before you selected that menu item, press spacebar. It's all in the manual I think ;) Or perhaps it's just very similar to the actual SC2 I played in the early 90s ;)

I finnaly got to play it & it's cool other then a few problems. Menus are all that understandable with the keys & I cant find a way to escape things other then to quit & relaunch. Also you have a mouse pointer but nothing accepts mouse input :) just wierd stuff really but Thanks for the update this is cool. I used to play Star Control on the Genesis (dont remeber what version it was) but I loved it & now I can play similar in Be. We need more break time pleasures :)

Try the following: make sure you have system logging active (config/settings/kernel/drivers/kernel for the necessary settings)
Open a Terminal and run 'tail -f /var/log/syslog'
Then launch uqm and see what tail spits out...should give you a better idea as to where the problem lies.

Please, when you port game, put all libs in <app>/lib dir and people will not have to DL all those libs. It's a game, not a library guest ;)

You'll notice about 5 messages back that he did not compile it for bone or dano. The differences in system libraries explains the "missing symbol" errors you are receiving. Your best bet is to DL the sources and cook up a specialized version. You will most likely also need the developer version of the SDL libs so you have the necessary headers.

I understand some people do not like where the game installs.
I promise that won't be a problem in the second major release
but for now, You can easily move the uqm directory to where ever suits you best, and change the Launcher script to
uqm -n=launcher/ I apoligize for any inconvience.
Patches for the UQM are avalible on BeShare at the moment
search for uqm-patch and get the most recent date avalible.
I will be updateing patches as soon as new code is released.
As for a PPC version, this is unlikely at this time due to high system requirements currently needed. Also the source
code has big endian issues, When a Mac OS/X and OS 8 and 9 ports are ready, I will try and compile a BeOS PPC release

I am so excited to see this game getting back into the hands of gamers, new and old. This is a classic example of a game that rocks without needing 3D first person shooting, or 3D anything, really.
I suspect there are a lot of gamers who didn't grow up with the classic "thinking" games of the DOS and Amiga era, so this game will either be a pile of junk to them ("What?? No 3D??") or a really wonderful discovery of epic proportions.
If you're playing the game for the first time ever, I recommend that you wait until an optimized and stable release comes out so that you get the best experience possible (it's no fun to get pulled out of the dream by a crash or a bug).
Babylon 5 may actually be less complex than this story...
