The other thing we asked was whether the client could report stats separately for BeOS, Haiku, and Zeta. It's not significant to non-BeOS/Zeta/Haiku users - but it's certain significant to us :)

:)

Let us know how that goes looncraz, I have submitted several requests already - and I think tigerdog has also. I believe there were some minor speedups between 2.2 and 2.5 even that BeOS users are not benefiting from.

Apparently we either haven't asked the right person, or ... who knows.

The other thing I have asked repeatedly was whether

In any case - it would be awesome if you posted any results in the TeamHaiku forum on http://haiku-os.org/forums - we have tons of machines available for testing if necessary - and I think tigerdog has a dual-core Zeta machine that currently crashes with certain scenarios running the sb client.

newer SoB

For those interested, I just requested to become the SoB maintainer for the BeOS port.

The cur BeOS ver is 2.2.0, while ALL other platforms are at 2.5.0.

I, sadly, do not have access to dual-core, though I am aware of every single issue they cause and why, and I know more or less how that translates into fixes within code. I'll give a try at repairing dual-core (and, likely, proper SMP) support into SoB, should I be allowed to make such modifications ( or any ).

I'll keep y'all posted.

neat :)

I don't use your gui (yet) on my BeOS box - but it might be nice to try when you get a new version posted.

I'm really interested in getting a new sb client from the official SoB project leaders - but so far I haven't created enough noise in their forums apparently.

The current client is a bit out of date, performs slower than windows and linux clients, and even crashes on some AMD multi-core/proc machines...

Quite unfortunate.

The other thing I want is possible OS recognition for Haiku/Zeta/BeOS separately if possible - but I suspect the project leaders won't find that terribly useful.

Update...

SoB will soon be updated. The purpose is to show off some GUI code I have created, migrate to TeamHaiku as Default, and then I'll probably open-source it, just for people to play with.

The download links for this app have been updated to use a server provided by Ornae from BeShare.

He is a good man. Thanks Ornae for your donation!

This server will also host many of my future distrobutions and projects.

* I have not tested this application in a LONG time, if you have problems, let me know.

Howdy..

I have seen a couple times now that the program fails to create its working folder so will fail to load first time and may have probelms working as expected with SMP systems (performance).

To fix this simply create /boot/apps/Seventeen/working

When you run ConfigSB Gui again it should work just fine.

Let me know if any of you have troubles.

It's a winner!

Funny, I wrote a talkback comment recently, but apparently it hasn't made it...

Yes, I do have a Dual P3, but it also crashes if I disable the 2nd CPU with ProcessController.

Are you on a dual CPU machine?

I may have overlooked something with the SMP code.. never had a chance to try it on a real SMP machine.

Howdy,

Sorry it has been so long for an update to this, but I have been busy in court suing people who didn't leave positive feedback ;-)

I have had time to complete the GUI, the killing and launching of multiple SB clients based on CPU count and user preference, but have not yet tested it on my dual CPU machine (about 15 feet away from me.. too lazy to get up and go over to it).

When I verify that it launches the correct number of threads on SMP machines, I will release 0.3, which will not save your settings for boot-time use, and will not support boot-time launching.

0.4 will hopefully have this done.. only thing lacking is me knowing how to read attributes from a file in C++.. ugh I hate using C/++ file handling crap.. why not just a function GetAttributeFromFile(BFile file, const char*attribute); ??

I guess when I figure it out, I will write that simple function.. anyone can help?

--The loon

That is the plan

I am nearly ready to throw the next one up. It will detect the # of CPUs and display an option allowing you to then run it on 2/3/4/.. CPUs ;-)

I just need to figure out where to put it in the GUI at this point.

I also created a boot-time loader that will set priority, thread name, and launch however many it is told to.

You will have sb_launcher 1 2 for multi CPU machines... 1 being priority. 2 being CPU count devotion.

Here, here on the SMP request. It would be nice to start both instances of the client for SMP machines with a single click...

Good idea!

to set the priority.
http://www.bebits.com/app/434

click on sb process and in the bottom tabbed box you can set the priority. The default is 10 but if you set it to say, 4 or 5, then you can still use your PC to do other stuff.
cheers

Okay, well.. I decided to play around tonight and with the help of VitViper and misza on BeShare, was able to quickly figure out how to set the priority of the SB thread remotely.

The next version on here will have this feature.

I will be able to get to these shortly:

Thread name and priority change (code complete)
Ability to configure all options (backend complete)
Start client@boot, with custom prio (code 1/2 complete)

Then I'll consider myself done with it, and move on do my yellowTAB duties once again. The code will be available only to the SB guy who said he would make the GUI for BeOS when we are #1.

All other requests will be investigated...

Didn't quite expect that response ;-)

Especially for something on which I spent (barely) two distraction-filled hours creating.

Nice to hear the feedback, will now post some screenshots of the GUI.. as requested by the maniac known as "m7m_GuyHaviv".
