antiword output to a file

Simple fix:
"antiword -a a4 wordfile.doc >wordfile.pdf"
Antiword is one of those common command-line apps that only send results to 'standard output' which is by default the Terminal. If you want a file, you must redirect to it, using the '>' character as above. HTH.

So close and yet so far

BeoS R5.03
I tried to convert a M$Word doc using the terminal.
I did antiword -a a4 wordfile.doc.
In the terminal I see a PDF doc appear but it is like
looking at a source code.
No pdf file is saved anywhere, just to see if it actually does anything useful, I cut and paste this terminal output in stylededit and saved it.
Guess what, I can open this with BePDF.
( after an other bigger testfile, BePDF asked for a password ?? )
Anyway it seems to work but what must I do to save a
PDF file automatically?
This really would be a great help for us BeoS users

Heh -- I guess xicon is sometimes a little *too* convenient... (:-)
Glad you're using it though!
I'd guess you're also using Zeta? This probably has some different assumptions for default coding.
Try getting it to work from a Terminal first. Then you can just open up the xicon script in StyledEdit or somewhere and change the antiword line appropriately.
(And, yes, I do see there is now a 0.37 source available. I';; update BeBits when I get a chance.)

No I used the xicon to drop a file on.
I tried that before on BeOS R 5.03 and it worked.

I did a compile from source with no problem on my Zeta R1 .. Did move the Make.beos file that I found (think that it was antiword that had one.. Have tested some other programs so I don't remember).

I did not test it exept run antiword in the terminal..

I don't see that problem (PS & UTF-8) on my system, but it sounds like antiword is somehow selecting
UTF-8 as the current mapping on your setup.
Try choosing the mapping with "-m 8859-1".
If you just want to read the text, don't use the "-p" switch
at all (which I assume you are...)

Problems with UTF-8

With many windoze docs I get :
"The combination Postscript and UTF-8 is not supported"
Is there anything I can do to fix that or is there an
update somewhere?

Thanks, I really need something to read these
M$ docs :-(

Good work

Now I can see images send by aliens who still encrypt there messages in Windoze language. ( gobe doesn't ).

How does Antiword compare with GP2's support for Doc files?

I've been using Gobe for quite some time and find it satisfactory, does Antiword provide any significant advantages?
