Haiku

I was hoping that one day I'd be using Haiku instead of R5/Dano. :)

And nothing is going to make it work either

Unless the Haiku project drivers get to be made to work with R5, then it could happen.

Same here.

I've got a pair of wireless and wired Microsoft mice with scroll wheels that do not work, as well as a fourth button that does nothing.

Tis a shame.

I second that notion

I too after a long time have tried to get my USB Intellimouse & now also my Wife's wireless keyboard & mouse to work. On a new machine with what should be a totaly compatable USB controller (all the keyboards I use work fine) the driver says my intellimouse is not compatable & indeed the driver does not work but movment & the 3 main buttons. Despite the tertiary wheel mouse button working the wheel doesn't at all. With the wireless mouse it simply doesn't work at all. I know this is a real snafu to get things working because of companies doing ewhat they please & then there is the war with all the USB controllers & Be's dated stack, but is there any hope this stuff will be resolved?

Like poster below, first time I installed this driver, I could move pointer, but couldnt click on anything. When I finally got to uninstall via keyboard navigation, the uninstall process didnt go right and got error that caused cursor to be frozen forever. BeOS is pain in arse to navigate with keyboard to correct anything. I ended up reinstalling BeOS (remember to always burn a backup of current BeOS install before trying any new software--unfortunately I didnt and had to use a very old backup). Not being too bright I tried installing a second time. This time it worked, well mostly. When I try to scroll (with scrollwheel)down a page, sometimes it will work, sometimes it will freeze until I click on blank space, then I usually can continue using scroll wheel. Dont know that results were worth the effort.

Hrm, that is strange. Can you run the Preflet and try setting what your buttons do? (You can run it from Terminal and use tab to navigate and space / arrow keys for selection). It's strange that it doesn't work as the default button assignments are rather sensible.

The other thing to try is use MouseReporter (included in the arhive) and send me a log file.

Wireless IntelliMouse 2.0 not supported?!

1) It doesn't sound like you did anything wrong.
2) It may be that your USB chipset isn't supported by BeOS. Do you have any other USB devices that work? You mention that you have another Intellimouse (An older model, perhaps?) try using that.

Can you visit;
http://www.bebits.com/talkback/3202?page=1
And scroll down to the entry by me entitled "Attention: Please Read" and follow the instructions there? Also grab MouseReporter (Linked from the EMouse page) and follow it's instructions?

I can't really help much more than that, the drivers are currently between releases. But doing those two things will help me for future releases.

Wireless IntelliMouse 2.0 not supported?!
 By hitech - Posted on January 9, 2004 - 07:39:09   (#10453)

When I tried to install the driver for Microsoft Wireless IntelliMouse 2.0, the following happend:

(In order to have any mouse to work in BeOS, I plugged the receiver into PS/2 port). I unpacked the driver and launched the installation script. It asked me to verify my mouse is plugged into USB. I unplugged it from PS/2 and plugged it into USB. The LED on the receiver didn't light up, and, after pressing Ok with the "Spacebar" (since my mouse was "dead"), I received a message telling "this mouse model is not supported". I plugged my mouse back into PS/2 and it came to life.

The questions are:
1) did I do something wrong? Should I plug the receiver into USB port from the beginning and boot in the BeOS this way, using some other mouse connected to PS/2? (It's possible, I have one more IntelliMouse which can be connected to PS/2 port).

BTW, the LED on the receiver didn't light up even when I tried to _boot_ into BeOS with the receiver connected to USB. Therefore - the following question:

2) Do I need to install any additional USB support before installing the driver? I didn't find anything stating minimal USB level used by the mouse on Microsoft's package, though. (I don't have other explanations about why the receiver was not powered up during boot).

3) Any other suggestions / ideas?

The mouse is the newest Microsoft Mouse. Link to its site is

If you have a look at http://beos.bong.com.au you'll see that Acceleration is working properly as of 2003-07-15. But it's not in the current release. I'm going to wait for some reports of MX700 from MouseReporter to come in and rewrite the Prefs app before releasing a new version.

Oh, and wait for my copy of Zeta to arrive.

Yes, but afaik there isn't any documentation on what those acceleration settings actually mean, which makes that information just about useless, since the algorithm isn't known.

Look in the R5 release notes - there are already functions for mouse acceleration (interface kit I think):

status_t get_mouse_acceleration(int32 *accel)
status_t set_mouse_acceleration(int32 accel)

Using either the Emouse preferences or the default BeOS Mouse preference apps to change mouse speed or acceleration does not work after a reboot. That is, the settings revert to their defaults. Not a huge deal, but annoying nonetheless. I'm using BeOS Max (it's the only one that'll install on my system) if it makes a difference.

Thanks for a wonderful product nonetheless!

Does the mouse actually work though ? The Install Routine will say that a mouse is unsupported, even if it is supported, if something else (Such as a previous version of the driver, a different driver, etc) is using the mouse.

*SNIP*

>This is the same "Info" that "abe" posted on February >7, 2003.

Yes it's STILL unsupported. It seems Logitech mice don't play well. I have no idea why. If you people want Logitech support to get better organise to get a Logitech mice to me, in the mean time, there's nothing I can do to improve it.

>Or is this because that I use the BeOS Developer >Edition 1.1 ?

Could be, but I doubt it. However I don't support anything other than BeOS 5.0.x. No BONE, no Dan0, no Media_kit, no weird version available on BeBits, etc. If it works for you under anything other than BeOS 5.0.x, great. If it doesn't, I can't really help you.

If you mean back/forward in a browser, I haven't made a replacement application to perform this functionality yet.

If you mean previous/next Workspace grab SpaceSwitcher (It's listed in the "Related Links") and if you don't have it, SpicyKey. Then assign your thumb buttons to "Unmapped Key". Open up the SpicyKey configuration and click "Add new SpicyKey" click the "Key" column and press the mouse button for back (needs to be assigned to "Unmapped Key") in the Application column put "SpaceSwitcher -" (You'll need to prefix that with the path ot SpaceSwitcher eg. "/boot/apps/SpaceSwitcher -") do the same for the button for next Workspace but change the "-" to a "+" so; "/boot/apps/SpaceSwitcher +"

it works great for my Optical IntelliMouse

xfilecsm: That mouse is actually supported. Are you using third party drivers (Eg. Intellimouse Drivers, USBMouse, etc) ? If so the probe (the thing that checks if your mouse is supported) won't be able to acquire the USB Device to see if it's supported. Just click "Install Anyway"
