The mixer?

is the mixer supposed to work yet ? I don't seem to have any effect over line in volume, or any volume really. I got recording to work, but you can't here what you are recording. You can only hear it after it is recorded. Is the sample rate adjustable ( is it 48kz only?) I have a SBLive value.

Master Volume

Great. It does not lock up now, however, it sounds like
it has some latency issues sometimes. If I use the media
prefs to change the volume of PCM Out, the output glitches
a bit. No biggie.

About the script. I understand you now. When I installed
the new multiaudio add-on the sound was terrible with your
emuxki driver, but when I removed the old driver the sound
was ok.

Once again, Great Work!

Recording doesn't work...

The audio quality sounds much better than with the stock Live! drivers with R5, but recording doesn't seem to work.

I have a cable running between my video capture card and the line-in on my Live!, I've unmuted the line-in channel in the mixer (and can hear the audio from the TV channel I'm watching), and I selected the line-in to record from (and made sure that the volume for it is turned up)... Unfortunately, anything I record with VideoRecorder has no audio track :-(

If I switch back to the R5 drivers, I get an audio track.

Any ideas?

It's does more than Sound Blaster

You driver seems to do more than sound. Toying around with my system I found that I could not get USB devices to work at all on my motherboard. ASUS CUV4X-D uses the VIA 694XDP 133MHz AGPset with VT82C686B South Bridge using 2 USB hubs.(Apollo 133 Dual Proc). The system has never worked with USB that I have seen, nor have I been able to find any info on the internet of success with BeOS and USB on this motherboard. (Although I have heard of failures). However, when I load your driver to drive my Audigy 2 sound card it also seems to activate my USB bus. So now my USB mouse and keyboard work, albeit not at boot. When the system boots nothign neither the mouse nor the key board works. However, disconnect them for a second and plug em right back in adn presto...working keyboard and mouse. Nothing else seems to make a difference when it comes to USB on this board. Just thought I would let everyone know.

to procton :
the Master volume bug is fixed in the alpha3a version of the multiaudio addon. I reproduced it so it should be ok. Thanks for the report.
I tested too with the original driver installed and it went bad. When i use Cortex, i can use both addons for one card, and it doesn't work well at all.
Because of this, i won't modify the installer, sorry.

to colo:
I enjoy reading such comments. Could you make sure most of the features work (play, record, mixer) ? If ok, I could then add support for this card on the driver description. Thanks

weee! works w/ audigy1 too! :D

Soundcard: SB Live! 1024(Cannot get more information right now since I am not at home.)

Master volume bug:

I start CL-Amp, and start playing music. I open
media preferences, and go to the SB mixer. When I
change the master volume, the sound output is suddenly silent (i.e. PCM Out). To get PCM out to work again, I need to restart the media server.

CD music output is however not affected.

install script:

I use the media kit beta, might may be while it works for me. However, if you use Dano/Exp it should work the same for you.

Two drivers for the same device can stay side by side. They do however not control the device at the same time. The user can decide which "driver" to use in the Audio Preferences in the Media Preference window.

As for your developing, you do not have to do anything. Your implementation already supports this, but the install script uninstalls the original driver without needing to. Atleast the script could ask the user if the original driver should be uninstalled.

Hope this makes things a bit clearer.

Regards

I tried to handle this kind of bug but it's not easy to reproduce. The bug seems to be in the multi_audio media addon i coded. Please can you tell me if the sound is always like you said or one time for three media server restarts for example.

to procton:
I don't have such bugs on the master volume. I have only bugs when i arrive on the Emuxki panel because the addon reads all values from the card. Please explain.
Uninstall of the original emu10k driver is needed to handle SBLive! cards. I don't know what is your audio card but i know two drivers accessing the same device is not good practice. Please explain why i should support this because i don't see.

Thanks for your feedback.

Still sound funky

I have a soundblaster live, and the sound still sounds slightly messed up. It's almost like the the sound is too loud and slightly clicky and poppy, especially on the "S" sounds, it almost like static. Also, it seems be a bit unstable.

I wish I could quantify what exactly I'm hearing, but it's hard to explain.

Vendor is Creative Labs (0x1102) if that helps at all.

Please keep working, you will reach perfection sometime.

install script

Hey,

Great work so far. This version has nice clear sound output, but PCM Out bugs out as soon as I touch the master volume.

Anyhow. What bugs me is the install script. Why does it force me to "uninstall" the original emu10k driver? It is not needed at all. Both drivers can live fine side by side, at least on my system. I just choose which driver I want to use in the media prefs.

In any case. Great work! Keep it up!

Thanks for trying this driver.

I hope you note the multi audio addon in the links is required. After installing, you may have an error in the Media Preferences because the old addon is not here any more. It's not a bug from the addon nor from the driver.

There is also a bug around which is a synchro problem. The workaround is to restart several times the media server. It's bad luck if you have it.

Another thing, i think it doesn't work very well to have several drivers handling the same device. This install/uninstall tries to handle the original emu10k driver from BeOSR5 but doesn't handle anything else.
This driver tries to handle SBLive!, Audigy, Audigy2 cards. I think the driver from Greg for Audigy tries to handle Audigy and Audigy 2, so they should not be installed together.

I think these are all the points i am aware of.

I turned off the plug and play feature. I noticed that the sound of the system start up and my mp3s was harsh and distorted ever so slightly, so I uninstalled your driver. This was both before and after I turned off p-n-p. Keep up the good work, and keep us posted on the fixes and updates.

I will try it later.

I would guess that you have a bios setting wrong more exactly the "plug and play os" witch should be disabled.

I havent tried it on record yet, it sounds that way on all playback though and I'm sure my card supports 48khz, the sblive gold was just the higher end live, with the gold plated plugs, digital in/outs and midi sockets.

i don't own such a card. The problem you encounter is for playing or recording ? Maybe your card don't support 48khz or something. Do you know what makes it "Gold" ?
BTW I suppose you don't have this problem with the original driver, do you know ?

Thanks for the feedback.

It works fine except on my old sblive! gold it sounds as though everything were recorded at 22khz or less :o)
