everyone who questions the value of this program should read Tim Mullen's essays on the subject of defending yourself against rogue machines.

"The Right to Defend" <http://online.securityfocus.com/columnists/98>

"Why I should have the right to kill a malicious process on your machine"
<http://theregister.co.uk/content/55/28851.html>

i agree that these types of programs have the potential for misuse, but their responsible use makes it a very valuable tool. that's why i have added kandent.com as a download mirror.

Naturally I, looncraz, fully support such software.

I do have tools that are targeted to BeOS to attack, but BeOS is so freaking stable I can't convince the system to go down, but I can sure slow it down or kill a few threads... ;-)

Yes.. script kiddie ;-)

This tool can be effective to test out if your windows machine is patched from nuke'ing for example ;-)
It would be usefull for sysadmins to test their clients on a network etc ;-)

It does not affect Be Machines, i tried on my own.
So its harmless to the BeOS Community :)

It compiles fine on PPC and x86 net_server,

Its an interesting addition to the BeOS Software library

I personally don't really care who is behind an attack. Any machine that delivers one needs to be patched and knocking it on its butt is a good way to get some attention focused the issue. The fact that it is not delivering a virus, trojan horse or worm is an indication of just how harmless it really is.

cj171 - detection software

cj171 i also have intrusion detection software on here to monitor things like this....should i take that off too?

what about the violence in Quake? is that ok?

come on man lighten up. Script kiddies have far worse tools than this and this is an old "tool" which most Windows computers are patched for anyway.

I don't think this shoudl be taken off. While the first point of the attack might be routed through an unsuspecting dupe that in no way means that you shoudl just allow them to continue attacking your system. It needs to be stopped & I have to wonder about the effectivness of finding the ISP that has the attacking IP lease then notifiing them that the holder of that IP has been launching attacks (possibly unaware) on your server. If the crash corrupts their system & they where a doup & not tech savvy enough to have done the attack or restore from a corrupted install due to the crash then it is simply a hard lesson in securing themselves. The reality is it will most likly be a doup that gets nailed by the coarse of action. Some one that does not know how to upgrade & patch thus they are open to the attackers exploit & also the nuke app/. Sadly the reality is still this - the attacks must be stopped. Sadly it's not as easy as calling some one up & saying "Excuse me, but did you happen to know your launching DoS atacks on my server?" If it was intended then a person would probably just lie & if it's unintentional then they probably don't know how to fix it either. So nuke 'em ;) Tough call but don't freak on Mooooooooo.

get rid of it

Reply to this attack by an attack can be a bad idea. The attacking IP adress is probably from a victim of the attacker who placed an attack program in the victim's machine.
