I would rip the CDs and it would never place any id3 tag info for the selected track, due to the error...and move on to the next track.
I edited the ripenc script and removed the -track option from the parameter line that the script passes to id3ren. Problem solved, although no track number is saved to id3 tag, but everything else is written to the tag. For some reason, the -track option does not exist for my id3ren version. Is it supposed to use that option?
Anyway to update the script to save id3 v2.x tag info?

finally updated this to a self installing package file. Pretty much added onto Scot Hacker's 2.7 , so it should be able to be installed on a fresh system. ( instead of installing scot's 2.7 and then installing 3.0 over it)
please inform me of _any_ bugs you know of.

| How to use the -alt--presets in RipEnc |

After not finding a way to do it through the UI, I dug into the ripenc script to modify it so I could use LAME's alt presets. The kludgy way to do it is to open up the ~/config/bin/ripenc script in a text editor, find line 567 and modify the LAME VBR command to something like:
lame --alt-preset standard /"$ThisCD"/wav/"$ThisTrack" "$WorkingDir/$OutputName"
One of these weekends when I have some free time, I'll fool around with trying to add it as an actual menu item, along with the ability to choose which preset is used (standard, extreme, insane).
I'm also going to play around with adding the ability to use a custom command line. If I get it working, I'll submit to the author of this version (rather than add another BeBits listing for it).

the Clear problem is that Perl 5.8.0 by Peter Moore includes an "enhanced" clear thats compiled on BONE.. delete that from config, and it works...

using cdparanoia and lame, setting the output to 320 CBR mp3 (i have too many VBR files that tunetracker reads has too long or too short).
the files output as 128kb. it says so in ripenc's standard out, in clamp and in soundplay. the ripencrc does have output set to 320 and the bitrate column in its dir says it's 320, but that's wrong, wrong, wrong.
i don't know if this is cdparanoia's fault or what, but i have to rip a whole pile of cds again, which really kinda sucks.

`clear` comes w/beos 5.0 ( i'm not sure about earlier versions or ppc since i havent used them) `clear` resides in /boot/beos/bin . what encoder do you have set in the script (check under Setup )? as far as libsocket.so, RipEnc and LAME don't require it. i'd need some more details to help more.
in short, `RipEnc` is a script to easily allow one to easily convert Audio CD's into other computer audio formats, such as mp3/shorten/lossless/flac.
`riponly` is a stripped down version of `ripenc`. it extracts cd audio and saves it to your computer with a filename of "[various_]Artist_Name-Album_name-tracknumber-track_name.wav
`enconly` is the compliment to `riponly` in that it will encode the files produced by riponly.
i personally run riponly on all my beos machines all day long. then ftp them to my fastest cpu machine and start enconly before bed. 10/100 RTL8139's and about 10gigs of drivespace on the encoding machine is the basic setup
as of now, Year, Playing Time, and Genre are not included in the riponly-enconly method.

This is not working, for some reason.... I think it may be the "clear" app used in the script somewhere causing it... the version of that on my machine appears to be a BONE version (needs libsocket.so)
What does this do, anyway?

it may make a good skeleton model to base a dvd extraction/encoding script off of, but the guts of this is largely cdda stuff --ie, cdparanoia isnt designed for non-audio data extraction (had to check their homepage to make sure). on a side note, i dont plan on getting a dvd drive anytime soon, so i'm gonna pass the buck on this one :)

My initial reaction was.. whoa! Scot has updated it?
Then I read the text. Glad to know that someone has taken up the code, and added even more niceness to it.
You mentioned multiple machines.. is it possible to take this script, modifry it a little to support DVD's, once the dvd kit module (someone else) is done, and then create a multi-machine dvd ripping/encoding process?
Just a thought for the future.
