If there are bug reports or ideas specific to my port of SmsPlus, please email them privately to me from now on. Feel free to post anything else, such as a thanks or whatever.
BeSmsPlus is a port of SmsPlus, so what you see is what you get, you get it's efficiency along with possibly a few bugs in a few games. All my port entails is to make sure that audio, sound, keys, graphics, joystick and interface works correctly, so while there's nothing wrong with reporting a game not working or a bug in a specific game, it's beyond my control. Also when a refresh rate of 75hz is used, i can see no tearing. I've decided to leave the port as is for the moment, it's performance is good and this is the most important thing.
To Jess,
It's not worth answering any of your posts, please move on and get a life, switch off your Pc, go get some sun dude, what is the point in you using a Pc, according to you everything bites, even things which you previously claim did not. Your a strange guy, a person who if someone met you face to face, you would be the biggest coward around. I asked you the other day to post your id for your Athlon Xp, your the guy who wanted an update to Pulse Athlon Xp, you can't even post that simple id, are you capable of doing anything properly.

massage is a great sms emulator for windows, you need adlib support though, so I don't think it works in win2k though, but you can get it from classicgaming or whatever that site is or google, it's fast and is smooth. give it a try :)

thanks for trying that caz, can I ask you to try phantasy star using the massage emulator for windows, that gets the sound perfect, I don't know if it's code is available at all though. Try the battles to see. I can't get more than 75hz on my 15" lcd so I guess I'll have to wait for some kind of smoothness, there's also a large green line on the left of the screen while playing phantasy star :)

about the GUI change, nothing much really, if both Neopop and smsplus code look alike, perhaps including the same screen graphic option and also the joy config panel. Nothing new.
As for the high speed scrolling, yes double buffering would probably fix it, but the emu would take a big hit. That would only be a good thing for 600Mhz and more machine.

I've just tested Phantasy Star on a version of SmsPlus for another OS along with my BeOS version, and the sound fx in the battle monsters section is the same, so at least it's not a problem specific to my port. The sound fx do not sound right to me either, i did have a master system but never played Phantasy Star, until the core of SmsPlus gets updated, i can't fix this sorry. As to the screen tearing, if you can run BeSmsPlus at a higher refresh rate, that should fix the tearing, i'll also see if adding a vsync option to BeSmsPlus is worth adding.
Hope this helps

Thanks for that joystick fix caz, tbe controls now where fine.
Now, while the sound is mostly the same as I would expect in Phantasy Star, the sound fx in battle with monsters is nothing like what the normal game is, it sounds too shallow or something (almost like it was using the pc speaker ;)). The music plays ok, but please can you check on the sound? If you need the phantasy star rom send me an email misza@ihug.com.au

Ok, drag n' drop will be added to neopop tommorow. Yes it is possible to change the color depth and undo on exit for BeSmsPlus, i'll see what i can do. If you have any suggestions as to how you would like the gui changed, drop me an email. I can't promise i'll change it to the way you want, but it's worth asking.

i never said SMSPlus was not suporting drag and drop, i was refering to neopop. SMSPlus work great in that regard :).
In fact it would be nice to see a mix of the 2 GUI, neopop is better overall and smsplus is better for the zip support and drag & drop feature.
i don't care too much for the 16 bit thing because i have a dedicated workspace for that kind of app. I think that would be nice to auto switch to the needed color depth and undo that at exit. I dunno if it's possible do do that on BeOS like on amiga (just altering the env variable instead of the config file) so that it would not stay that way in case of a lack of electricity.

Thanks guys for your great feedback, and i'm happy that you like BeSmsPlus.
AlienSoldier,
There is drag n' drop support in BeSmsPlus, and it should work, please try a rom with drag n' drop. BeSmsPlus is running at full speed on your machine, i will add an fps counter soon. You are also right in saying that some games do not work on BeSmsPlus, or have some features not working. Charles Mac Donald is working on enhancing the SmsPlus core, so hopefully some of these problems will be fixed, the majority of games do work fine though.
misza,
1. The key problem you mention could be attributed to not disabling any unused joystick ports in the joystick preferences, it's a known bug that BeOS reports joysticks attached to these ports even when there are none, the joystick then reports invalid values, resulting in erratic controls, please do this and if your problem still persists then i'll see if i can change my code.
2. You are right to say that the sms is an 8 bit graphics console, however the smsplus core has the option of using 16 bit rendering, which is easier for me to use when using mmx, it is worth adding 32bit and 8bit support to BeSmsPlus, as it's an efficient emulator the overhead of converting between colorspaces will be quite low, 16 bit rendering would still be the fastest however. I will add support for 8/32 bits.
Thanks to Eli too.
Thanks
Caz

it's smooth as hell, both in sound and video. The more smooth emulator on BeOS (raine is also quite smoot). I can't say what is the fps (f11 don't show it) but my CPU on my PIII450 never go over 40-45%
I like to be able to drag and drop zip file rom on it (neopop don't recognize .zip).
I wonder if it support the markIII fm modulation, i was not able to tell the difference, i did try SG-1000 and SC-3000 game and they don't work (SC-3000 sound work some time).
Only thing missing seem to be sample support, for exemple when the Space Harrier get it it should cry HHhhHaaargggHH!

This emulator has come a long way Caz! Well Done!
Testing this with Phantasy Star, the sound is just like what it is meant to be, the graphics are great fullscreen, and it's smooth. I have the following small probs though.....
1. The arrow keys are faulty, i.e. up down left right, pressing any of these moves the characters on the screen a few spaces in that dir then throws them right back to where they started from again. It's like they're sticky but the key sticking is a key in the opposite direction.
2. graphics aren't shown in the small window at startupp, just a meassage 16 bits only. (sms is 8 bit right????)
I think that's about it for now, but it looks extremely fantastic, once these keys are sorted out I'll be able to play sms games at full glory in BeOS! I've waited so long for this, keep up the good work Caz!!!!!!!
