Still using BeOS? Wow

Even I haven't used it for quite some time since Zeta sucked so much (for audio especially).

Have to reinstall R5 sometime, those were terrific days! (But I don't understand why someone had to steal my memory card with the greatest patch ever made, damn the guy!)

Hi Jace,
for what I know Steinberg did not remove BeOS from their VST SDK. The problem is the vstgui library that now is an open-source project (http://sourceforge.net/projects/vstgui/). This library has some outdated beos code and right now didn't works.

A new XRS version (1.2) can be found on Zeta.. there is no R5 version right now..

I'm basically newbie, I did not know there where several servers of Beshare. Its just something I heard, I have no idea of what is this software about. Just trying to help. Drop there from time to time, maybe one of the gurus can tell you something.

talk of VST compilation on BeShare? really? what server?

i was on beshare that day and found nothing at the time. what BeShare server did you catch this on? Right now i am looking for the Steinberg VST SDK 2.0 which has BeOS support materials in it (only found a busted copy with most BeOS materials missing so far). Still looking... i don't know if the 2.4 and 3.0 versions removed BeOS support, but the support files and docs for BeOS are NOT in these SDK versions (and these are the only ones seemingly available through normal channels). if you know where the complete VST SDK 2.0 is, or can send it to me, i'd be indebted.

also, XRS has a newer version that is almost a beta 3 on the bebits page, but further down the list. it has a more robust VSTi support function that lets you get around the nasty renaming trick as mentioned by Frans below. i almost missed it but it's there. it would be nice if we could get Christopher Lenz to donate his work on the VST media addon to Haiku, if he's not done so already. i think he donated Cortex, but i see no activity with that.

There is something in Beshare

There were two guys on Beshare the other day spekaing about the same and compiling something related to this VST, but no idea what it was. Maybe there is some zip.

Any news here? Frans? Anyone?

i'm back to using BeOS a little bit and i am trying to get up to speed with the current scene... seems not much has changed though. Anyone going to update the VST Media Addon? Or Cortex, for that matter?

XRS

It does run in XRS, but you need to rename it to mdaJX10 replacing the existing VSTi plugin.

Andreas is working on an update of XRS to support multiple VSTi plugins. Just need to hang in there...

does this thing work with ANY BeOS apps?

When testing with XRS, using ZR-3 in place of mda JX10, pressing play locks the system up. I know it's just a dirty hack to get that part working. I thought I'd let someone know- in case they didn't. It looks good though. Can't wait till it's running right.

VSTi

VSTi instruments are indeed not supported by Soundplay, as it is not an effect but a synthesizer.

There currently is just one app on BeOS that supports VSTi and that is XRS. Though it only supports one, and it needs to be in the VSTi directory from that app to work using the same name (replacing) the one that is there already.

We expect a new application soon that will be more capable of handling VSTi soon.

SoundPlay uses VST effects but not Instruments (?)

I think I'm right about that... I don't know which apps in BeOS (if any) currently support VSTi (VST Instrument plugins).

I cannot get ZR3 to work with SoundPlay. Any suggestions? It is installed in the proper directory and I have the VST plugin Adapter enabled.
