Config file error
 By tigerdog - Posted on January 15, 2008 - 20:02:13   (#22409)

The supplied config file contains an error that prevents Privoxy from forwarding requests to the internet. Line 932 needs to be commented out like this:

# forward / localhost:8080

Re: 3.1.1 is alpha, please use 3.0.3 instead

Ok, I'll contact (again) privoxy devs ASAP.

In defence of these packages: I've used the bone version for a little more than 4 months without any problems. That an alpha quality! :-)

3.1.1 is alpha, please use 3.0.3 instead

Hello,

the CVS HEAD version that is the basis for
the Privoxy packages on bebits.com is labelled
alpha for a reason: It's unstable, mem-leaking,
and lacks about a zillion fixes & improvements
that were made in the stable branch.

Version 3.0.3 is the maintained and up-to-date
source for packaging.

We'd also warmly welcome a BeOS packager to
the team. If anyone would like to volunteer,
just drop a note to developers at privoxy.org

Correction...

..I made a typo in my last post, you should set your workstations Lan IP to use 10.10.10.(2-255) i.e., 2 thru 255 respectively, not 10.10.10.1. Since 10.10.10.1 is set on the computer connected to the internet, you would have a conflict in IP addresses if you used it twice.

Can be used in place of NAT/ICS

To use in place of NAT edit the config file and point privoxy to listen on the NIC connected to your hub or router. Mine for example is set to listen on 10.10.10.1:8000. Set your workstations to use proxy and/or the browsers to use http proxy 10.10.10.1:8000 or whatever you decide to use. Set the workstations LAN IP to listen on 10.10.10.1, Gateway:your default gateway assigned to you by your ISP if you have one, and finally DNS: your default DNS servers assigned by your ISP or ones that work for you.

I have successfully used privoxy across different platforms including linux, w2k, and w98 all which where listening to the BeOS network net_server. The only difference is it seems to be less hassle to set up i.e., no need to restart net_server and of course you get the benefits of privoxys filtering.

This is something I would love to see available for net_server too...BONE is great and all, but something for the "purist" using 5.0.3 Pro would be awesome.

Please keep up the good work!

I agree thanx

Hehe, why people still use that? dunno... ;^P

Ok. Once I get my R5 working again I will do a net_server build.

I have contacted the developers, chances are that my _rather small changes_ get included in the cvs tree.

Thanks to all the people that have provided mirrors!

Looks good, but please, please, do a netserver port. :-)
You will probably find that most ppl still use Netserver rather than Bone.

Yes!
