RE: thanks a lot!! ppc possible?

Probably, if the patch is simply altering a number of bytes in the net_server exe.

Why now do a compare on the intel versions (use twi instanced of diskprobe for example) and see if the difference is obvious. If it is, I suspect the PPC fix will be similar.

remember endian issues. Most likely the value is word shifted.

I have (and exclusively use) PPC machines, but I also have a Windows machine serving the DSL, so I have not come across this problem. My ADSl comes from a USB modem, so it's unlikely to ever work under PPC anyway. Sorry I cant be more helpful.

thanks a lot!! ppc possible?

Thanks a lot for this fix, it saved my day! Just got DSL and wondered why upstreams won't work in BeOS - now it works perfectly. Thanks again!

Would it be possible to do this fix for BeOS 5.03 PPC also? I mean, the net_server part?

Pete

Fixed My Problem Too

This also fixed problems I was having sending e-mail with my bi-directional satellite connection. Thanks!

Sorry...

I must have overlooked that the patched net_server was from you (I actually read the readme file ;), just didn't realize it). I'll add a note that it only works with 5.0.3.

Patched net_server works only on R5.03

The patched net_server that you got from Eugene Kirilenko was done by me (see readme file). It reduces MTU on all interfaces, including normal LAN, not only PPP (I use a DSL router, so I needed LAN to be reduced).

But one thing is really important!

The net_server was taken from BeOS R5.03. You will need to update your BeOS R5 installation to R5.03 (if you haven't done it already) before installing it, or it won't work at all.

You're right, I'm wrong.
For PPPoE, obvioulsy LAN MTU should be reduced too, so the patched net_server is required.
Maybe the patched PPP alone will only works for people having MTU issue with their RTC (modem) dialup!?

hmm

I just tested it here at work. For me it only works when useing the patched net_server. PPP alone gives me the same upload problems. Maybe it's my setup: I use the ADSL modem as a gateway/router at home and at work with ADSL from Bluewin (Swiss ISP). That works very well with patched net_server and patched ppp file. I tried to bridge my ADSL modem at home (like I did in windoze) but that didn't work with the PPPoE driver (no carrier).
I haven't encountered any networking problems at work with the patched net_server so far, so I think it should be safe.

8 bytes...

Since I only use my LAN card for ADSL I don't care about the 8 bytes extra. I didn't test it with only the net_server or ppp file, as I read the talkback comment I did both (downloaded the net_server and patched ppp), it worked and I was happy ;). But I don't think those 8 bytes have a huge impact on network performance, so it shouldn't be a problem to replace both files. Or does the patched net_server something other than just using 1492 MTU?

BTW, you may only need to install the patched ppp file, in particular if you also have a LAN card.
That way, the MTU used on LAN network will still be 1500 bytes. It's 8 bytes more!!!
;-)

Great to see this hack works!

didn't know that

But since I installed your patched net_server and patched that ppp file, I can send those 2kb mail's laying arround here :).
