Seems like a bug somewhere in BeMSN. When it crashes could you click the "Debug" button, then type "sc" in the terminal window that appears, and paste the output here? What speed internet connection have you got?
Thanks

Ok I have downloaded the net_server version now. The libcl.so was different. I can now get a lot further however Its still presenting some errors I can connect but I had to connect being status offline. The error that it keeps comming up with is
Thread Name: BMsnNSHandler
Error: Segment violation
Team ID: 130 Thread ID: 547
EIP: 0x8002a984
Now I think I remember something with an issue of having a lot of contacts? I do have over 100 contacts so perhaps this may be contributing to the issue? It seems only when I try to go to a status thats not offline that it happens.

I downloaded BeOS PE 5 Max V3 I thought I downloaded both the Bone and net_server version. However the contents of the zip file are identical (did a diff on BeMSN for both to check as well)
Can someone provide me a link to get the correct net_server version or the upgrade to BeOS that is required to get this working?
Thanks so much for your fast replies!

Make sure you've downloaded the correct version for the BeOS you are running.
If you have just downlaoded R5 Personal Edition, BeOS MAX, or the BeOSOnline Developer Edition you will need to use the net_server version of BeMSN.
If you have bought Zeta, or download "dano" or "Phos", you will need the BONE version.
If you have just downloaded R5 Personal Edition, you will also need to make sure it is updated to 5.0.3 - get both of the updates (5->5.0.1 and 5.0.1->5.0.3) from http://www.bebits.com/app/2680 - make sure you apply them in the right order.
Hope it helps.

Sorry if this is a realy simple question / fix. This is my first hour using BeOS. Im realy enjoying it a lot. Just trying to get an msn client working. The one that came with this BeOS install seems to crash on signin. Thread name w>Sign In.
I thought that it may be because of MSN protocol updates (I use kopete on SuSE Linux so I've experienced this already)
I downloaded the latest version of BeMSN which is suppose to have support for protocol8. I copied the libcl.so.3.10 to the link given in the zip file.
When I launch BeMSN I get error Missing Library libsocket.so
Is there a specific location to execute BeMSN from? Some sort of link I have to create? I saw nothing in the Readme.txt file on this. I did an updatedb and locate libsocket.so and it did not return any results from a terminal.
Any help would be great.

Hi I tried BeMSN and I just tried a few names.
I found one who was online and all worked fine, now I like to delete the unused nams but no luck!?
When I startup BeMSN all the deleted names are still there, how do I delete them?
Other then that, thanks for this program.

Thanks Jess, that's not a bad idea.
One of the things I really want to avoid is a cluttered UI with loads of options most people won't use - not sure if a timer-based user pic changer is that useful (you really want to do a slideshow of photos limited to 96x96?). 96x96 is how big the pics are by the way. MSN doesn't scale them very well, I want to improve that as well as adding options for cropping, scaling, and much better drag and drop support.
I'll certainly consider the slideshow thing though. If anyone has any thoughts for how the UI for it can work without getting cluttered for the majority of people who won't use this feature then I'd like to hear them. Not quite yet though, let us get the website up and running first :)

Hey,
when you guys get around to adding user "icons" or pictures can you added a feature to slide show images? Have a linear & random setting so it changes the pics. Also the pictures in the real MSN client are generally larger then they show. Think the ones you view show at 96x96 but are normally 128x128. Would be cool if you could allowthe Be Client allow users to set the size they view since MSN resizes them. Now if MSN resizes before it's sent then there isnt much you can do but if MSN sends the whole thing & let's the second persons client resize it to fit that 96x96 window then you can play. I have the feeling it is done on the first persons system to reduce bandwidth useage but if not think about this. You could slide show new pictures of your kids to your parents. Show your friends pics from when you went to the land of OZ, or just have it change your logo-icon every 3 seconds cuz your insane ;)
That is all programs,
End Of Line

Hi guys.
Quick update on the current status:
There are now 3 of us who have agreed to work together on an MSN client for BeOS. That is me (si-mSN), Taki (BeMSN), and Mik (full of brand new ideas ;-)).
All 3 of us now have the BeMSN source - but we are using it more as a base than directly adding stuff to the BeMSN source. In other words, we are starting a new project, but borrowing heavily from the code from BeMSN (and some of my old stuff too).
The new project will be open source. However, Taki does not want to open the source to the current BeMSN to the general public. It is possible he will email it to you privately if you want to do a port though. The first thing necessary will be a port of cryptlib, which you can start on without the BeMSN source anyway.
Look out for a new website soon!
And Jess - all 3 of your suggested features will definately be in the first release.

I have had quite a few lock ups so far. It seems to like dying the most when some one goes off line & then back on if you have a chat window with them. So if your talking & they go off line. When they come back on & you talk to them in the window that you where using previously BeMSN will die shortly after. Other windows seem fine for a min then slowly all child windows & the main app die.
Interviews still open - drop me a line.

Hey taki,
Thanks for the update!
Tim (aka Mik) should have sent you an email about collaborating on our MSN client.
It's not called si-mSN anymore, btw. The current codename is be-messeng-er. http://si-msn.port5.com/Images/bmeMain.png (it will have its own website fairly soon).
We're going to continue anyway, the aim is to have a client that is better than the official windows one.

Just as a heads up about the failed compile. I don't have time to trouble shoot this but I probably also don't have the skill but I do know many people who would appreciate BeMSN working again. This sucks because of the split of net stacks for Be in the last 3 or so years but really many of us have been some what forced to BONE.

Thanks for the development though for sure.

To solve these problems try downloading and building the cryptlib on your system. You can find it here: http://www.bebits.com/app/3682. Download it then open a terminal window...
$ mkdir clib31
$ unzip -a cl31.zip -d ./clib31/
(the -a flag converts the windows new lines to unix ones).
The to create the shared library type:"make shared".
Try this and post a message if this solves the problem.
