I installed it (in "non standard" folder) and it works ok.
LibPak's libs, on which sasteroids depend, didn't changed since beta2. So if You have r1 and game was compiled with r1 it should work. Maybe file You downloaded was broken and it installed broken data files?
Try to run it from Terminal maybe it will write some error?

Here's what I did:
I took the new improved graphics out of the new version and put the ones iI liked in the previous version and that worked fine, but I didn't mess with the sounds, but when I get a chance I will,my libpak is an older version BTW

Could you please tell me sasquatch666, what version of the SDL libs are you using, and moreso where did you get them? Are you using the latest Libpak from Shard? There should be no reason for it to crash after starting. I did not make any modifications that would cause this. When exactly does it lock up on you? Right after you shoot, or when the weapon fire hits an asteroid? Go into the sounds directory and play the 'zap.wav' file with MediaPlayer. Does you machine lockup? Try a CheckBFS to see if your hd or any of the files are corrupt.. this could cause the program to fail. Try reinstalling the enhanced version after you have checked your hard drive for errors. If that sound file is what is causing the program to fail, then it may be any of those problems. As last resort, please *after* you try the other things, if the other things reveal nothing then try replacing the zap.wav with the old zap.wav from the Non-enhanced version.

I usually install games into a folder I created called boot/home/Games
That keeps things simple for me to find,I do the same with audio apps, graphics apps , utilities, etc. All live in the folders representing their categories. So I would tend to agree with Zenya, but you are not the only dev that does this so it's no big deal really.

Yes, I put in the readme file included with the program that it must be in /boot/apps/sasteroids. Most people I know install things there anyway.
It was either put the data files into your home directory /boot/home (which I don't like it - is too messy) or put the data files in some non-standard location. I don't see either as reasonable. This is just a little thing, since the prog works great.
Would you rather I put the data files into a hidden directory in your home folder? For example /boot/home/.sasteroids?
I can see about changing the datapath to present working directory in the future, but right now sasteroids works great anyway.

If the app doesn't live in /boot/apps/, then it wont work. Dont you hate hard coded paths. That isn't the BeOS way :-(
