seem i was able to upload a 8M file but a 700M file failed. It seem to fail at random size, once around 400M and another time only 5M.
this is an app that is almost usable but i really can't use it :(

The large file size bug is fixed but not release yet.
FTP-FS write support is experimental (is/should be mentioned somewhere in the documentation) and there might be bugs uploading a file.

If I know it really helps:)
Admin at our work recently disabled FTP due fact that it sends user data unencripted. And recommended to use scp
or those frontends if I use something unix-like.
So I'm unsure if adding SSL helps here.
Looked at bebits and google, seems that there is no secured in this or that way ftp-clients for BeOS at all.

I have to correct myself. TLS is not the same as SSL. The RFC describes that either TLS or SSL can be used, so (=SSL) should be (or SSL).
I have now completely read the RFC and I think that adding support for it should be trivial (using e.g. OpenSSL for TLS and SSL).
SD (or if anybody else is reading this), let me know if you want it.

I do not intend to add support for SFTP now, although it shares part of the name of FTP, it is a quite different protocol (binary vs. textual command format).
Though there is exists RFC-4217 (Securing FTP with TLS (=SSL)) this could be supported if there is demand.

Thank you for checking the file size on the ftp server.
I have now found the bug. The conversion function returned a 32-bit result instead of 64-bit what I had expected.
A bug fixed version should be released soon.
About the quick response. I receive a notification email when something is posted in the talkback area of one of my published applications on BeBits.

CLI ftp reports correctly, e.g. 3780125588 which should be roughly 3.5 GB

FTP-FS uses 64 bits to hold the file size, so 3 GB should be no problem.
Does the FTP server report the file size correctly? What is printed by the "ls" command using the ftp client from Terminal? FTP-FS relies on this information.

When I ftp-connect my satellite receiver, every big file is reported as 2 GB when it should have 3+ GB.
Get-It has the same issue, NetPenguin doesn't.
The receiver runs a PPC Linux. If you need more info you'll have to help me, as this receiver is the nearest I got to a linux system... :)

IMHO it is the BeOS way. It does not reinvent the whell, but (re-)uses Bookmarks for ftp URLs.
> Maybe a quickstart text would be nice, anyway now I know how it works,
I guess you have not read the user manual ;-) The section 'Usage from Tracker' explains how to use it from a GUI. I am not going to change the user manual. Any volunteers?

Well I have tested this case and I am quite sure that it sends @ instead of %40.
Maybe the FTP server response with a statuscode that ftpfs does not yet interpret correctly.
Can you send me a log of a FTP session?
You can use the shell script in the bin directory inside of ftpfs directory.
Type something like: ./ftp_test.sh address user password

That was quick! Wow! But uh...still doesn't let me log in. Are you sending the %40 to the server instead of @?
Everything displays correctly and I'm positive I've got the username and password correct (because I can login using the command line ftp), but it still says, "Wrong user name or password."
Thanks,
Kev

For whatever reason, the people who set up our FTP server use an e-mail address as the username. FTP-FS takes that and makes the URL of the bookmark into "user@domain@domain", and then on parsing that, makes the address "domain@domain" and the user "user" rather than the way it had been typed in. It does this before saving, too, so "save and mount" doesn't work even the first time. :|
Otherwise, this is a really neat package. :)

Hi again.
I found that if during some operations (uploading/downloading) Tracker crash (not ftpfs fault) you can't mount ftp servers anymore after Tracker restart and you have to reboot to make things working again.
Please look into it.
Thanks.

Have you quit ftpfs_server correctly? Do not kill it e.g. with Control+C otherwise the log file could be truncated.

Hi, Michael!
Thanks for the quick answer.
0.9.3d works with Serv-U ok now, thank you very much!!!
However CesarFTP still doesn't seems to work.
I've tried to enable Verbose mode as you describe below,
but log file created is null byte long.
I had tried several times and now even Serv-U connection gives me an error "An unknown error occured mounting the file system."
Still no log file...
I'll try it later today after reboot and tell you results.
Oh, btw, there is no "quit_ftpfs_server" app, perhaps you mean
"quit ftpfs_server"? Anyway i used ProcessController.
Big THANKS for Serv-U support, this is really rocks!

in order to help me fix the problem please download my development
version
from http://bepdf.sourceforge.net/temp/ftpfs-0.9.3d.zip
and follow this instructions:
1. Install ftpfs.
2. Test if this version works already.
3. If it still does not work proceed with the following steps.
4. Open a Terminal and type:
ftpfs_server > log
5. Open a FTP URL with the "FTP-FS Mount" UI and hold the Windows key while the program launches
6. Open the Advanced Settings (click on the triangle).
7. Check the combo box infront of "Verbose".
8. Click button "Save and Mount".
9. If the FTP server could be mount: Unmount the volume.
10. Open another Terminal and type:
quit_ftpfs_server
or if you have installed ProcessController. Choose "Quit an
Application" from the pop-up menu and click on "ftpfs_server".
11. Send the "log" to me. You might want to edit this file first, if you do not like me to see the password you have entered.
12. Repeat this procedure starting with step 2 for every FTP server.
