I'm hosting this too!

Also for those of you too cheap to buy DOOM, you can use this with FreeDOOM.

http://freedoom.sourceforge.net/

Keep in mind that FreeDOOM is a work in progress and is not yet finished but still very much worth checking out!

I used an MS Sidewinder for all development testing lol :)

It was a gamepad, not an "analogue stick" such as those mainly used for flight simulators etc., but I wouldn't recommend those anyway; however if you really want to use one of those they need to be calibrated which is a PITA.

If you play w/ joystick or keybo, run the regular binary and NOT the _mouse executable.

I can tell you what was used: the Sidewinder gamepad running into the gameport of an SBLive! using the PCI-gameport driver right here: http://bebits.com/app/2017

Analog Joypads

What Analog Joypads would you guys suggest to use with this?

I've tried a Microsoft Sidewinder, but when ever I want to turn, it's like I have to come to a complete stop first, which of course really ruins the experiences.

Other than that, I got it working great, thank you for the help.

The site plainly states to come back - it is not a dead link. There seems a lack of interest in such things, myself not excluded. Therefor no plans on releasing more... even if already finished ;B

I was going to look for the version of this with mouse support, but now the homepage and the download links are dead. :/

BTW is this going to get an update to the latest source?

Any plans on porting GZDOOM or ZDOOM!?!? :)

Glad to see DOOM got some sort of source port on Be besides that old stale Vaniall DOOM :)

Different binary

XDel, few minutes after I posted then realized, sounds like you are using the wrong binary. FOr quake-style mouse support you need to use the other binary (think it's called prboom_mouse).

Assuming you did read the instructions and edited/created the config file ;), SDL apps switching fullscreen tend to not correctly set the refresh and/or BeOS does not remember the refresh rate in a workspace, i.e. while switching to fullscreen at a *different resolution than the current res of the workspace you are in. Work-around: setup the desired resolution+correct_refresh on a different workspace and then launch the game in that workspace.

Freaky mouse (song title?): by default the mouse *acceleration* in PrBoom is set very high. If you cannot lower it enough in-game, try adjusting the mouse speed with the BeOS-system's preference panel. 'Freaky mouse' is a known issue, I believe I noted in the readme about the fix. Btw it only tends to spaz out if you shift it at an obtuse angle while midair (while falling/flying/etc). You can Save then Load the game, and this will reset player physics back to normal.

Mouse messed up, screen small

Finally got a machine Be will run on, anyhow the game loads, but seems rescricted to a window in full screen, even if I set the res to 800x600 and maximize the window.

Also I can not control anything with the mouse, it is all tweaked out.

FINALLY!

It's about time someone took the time to port a decent DOOM port to BEOS! DOOM Legacy never made it, ZDOOM was never considered, and that other one whos name eludes me right now never made it. PrBOOM is VERY welcome, I'll have to re-install BeOS and give it a spin. This should be included with Zeta, or OpenBeOS including FreeDOOM or something! :)

Nope

Never heard of doom. Whats a game? :p I read the read me & it says more about if you want audio but I never saw "Needs Original game wads" etc any where.

It DOES work

well you need either doom shareware or a full version. It can use the wad from Ultimate Doom, Doom 2, TNT or Plutonia (Final Doom), Original Doom 1, or shareware version any of those.. It can also use Freeware like Nimrod and others, as well as add-ons.

You put these into the prboom directory.

So you know what Doom is>?

Cool... too bad it doesn't work.
