60 Hz is normal and best for flat screens. Just leave it at that!
Thanks very much for the driver! :-)

I love my 1440x900 screen, just fixed to 60 Hz.
Is it possable to unfix the 60Hz and make me set it to 75 Hz st the same resolution?
Keep up the great work on haiku

The driver for me is called "nvidia". Check in your bin or dev folder to see if it is named "nv" or "nvidia".
Next you have to edit your nvidia config file in .../config/setting/kernel/drivers
Rename it to nvidia or nv depending which driver is installed in your system.
And make sure it has the following:
force_ws true # if true forces widescreen type detection for all connected screens

I have a ViewSonic 19inch widescreen LCD monitor and GF 4MX440 card. I cannot set to 1440x900 the best resolution for the screen, neither in BeMax v4 nor Zeta.
In the latest version notes I noticed: Added a new nv.setting to force widescreen support when the driver doesn't recognize a WS screen for what it really is;
I wonder how to set the nv.setting to make widescreen work?

If VESA mode only lists 1280x1024 as the highest resolution, then it could be bios on your graphic card don't support anything higher in VESA mode, sometimes new bios could help in this situatios.
If you only get 800x600 with this driver, you should report this in http://dev.haiku-os.org along with your device id (could be found via Devices preflet), so Haiku folks could fix it for you.

Thanks!
Actually, that one is worse...I can only get 800x600 and nothing more :( Another odd thing....and this may be my rpoblem....if I select VESA mode, 1280x1024 is the highest resolution available, which indicates that maybe the card can't do any higher, as odd as that seems. The card is a BPG GeForce 6800 GT OC....it's one of the overclocked out of the box.
If anyone knows why that is happening, I'm all ears, otherwise I guess I'll just have accept 1280x1024. My flat panel is optimum at 1600x1200, and that's why I am trying to get that. My old Nvidia card...a PNY FX-5900 did it no problem with this driver, so I was a bit surprised when this "better" card could'nt.

I can use my 7900GTO 512Mb under ZETA after forcing the memory parameter in nv.settings.
After setting memory to 256, Zeta (and normally BeOS and Haiku) boots at 1920x1200 without problem ;-)
Cool !

You could test VESA mode, you have a program in Software-System where you can set your VESA mode to 16Bit.

Hi Rudolf. Scott Hacker once said that BeOS is like a drug, once you're hooked, you can never ever kick the habit. I kind of knew that you'd be back, since you are the type of person who has a creative spark, and feel unfulfilled until you actually create something, anything. It is our pleasure to have you as part of the BeOS community.
Speaking of which, I have ditched my ATI card and got an nVidia 9700GT, which works well in Zeta (2D), waiting for the day when you'd come back ... Now I can continue my 3D projects :)))

Still here. hehe.
Indeed, I am not working on the drivers currently. But if I get my setup running again (net access for instance) and I find some spare time I might do some 3D related work, since info is still dripping in on that advanced card setup (linux driver).
3D and BeOS still got my interest :-)
About responses to technical questions: I probably won't reply much because of lack of time, access, en running BeOS machine at the moment.
SLI for instance is something new I know nothing about..
OK, signing off for now. Keep on having fun!
Rudolf.

...and we aren't his brothers. He is a developer who was not getting paid do work on BeOS. He has other things that take priority.
BeOS is not the do all/end all for our existence. It is simply a great operating system that we all enjoy using.
I know you are still young, so you don't have the perspective that I and a lot of other men and women that use BeOS have, but you will one day realize that, while you cherished and learned from your time spent developing on the BeOS, it really was a tiny chapter in your life.

Be happy you got what you did while he decided this was the thing he wanted to do. You could still be stuck with nothing for this chipset. Damn ingrate. We aren't contributing for you Mr. X.

He wouldnt make a good firefighter because he left his 'brothers' behind. And when do we know when and if he returns? What happens if he likes what he is doing now than what he used to do? Perfectly fine that he gets to do what he wants but I dont like it since there are no more updates.

Rudolf did not necessarily take a "permanent vacation" from BeOS - please don't spread that type of FUD.
He has taken a hiatus while he pursues other things that make him happy. Many people do this in life - but that does not mean they never come back.

Hi Rudolf,
Just been messing around with the nv.settings file, but cant seem to get the driver to work on my rig. Currently stuck in Vesa mode :( but if you have any idea's or tips on how to get this working, id much appreciate it.
Setup:
NF4 dfi Ultra UT SLi mobo
2 x 7900GTX (in SLi)
Zeta 1.2 (I would have stuck with R5 pro, but it wont boot on my X2 4400. :(
when the driver initializes, the signal get lost to the monitor, ive tried all four different dvi ports, but no joy.
any help would be appreciated.

I looked into your motherboard:
Integrated NVIDIA GeForce2 graphics core.
According to the supported list you should have no issues. I would draw a conclusion that the onboard graphics are somewhat similar enough to cause the drivers not to work correctly.
As a last effort to get color, try vesa accepted.

I am unable to boot BeOS (BeOSMax V31b1) with this driver except in Safe Mode. The initial BeOS boot screen comes in color and then freezes. If I change the settings to Safe Mode then I am able to boot with 640 x 480 resolution in B&W.
PC Config:
ASUS A7N266-VM mobo
AthlonXP 2400 Processor
Integrated Nforce graphics
512Mb RAM
I tried booting with the Zeta Live CD and was able to boot without any issues with color and was able set resolution to 1024 x 768.
Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this?
