Please upgrade your broadcom driver if you have not already done so: If I remember correctly this particular driver indeed did NOT respect sharing INTs (!).

Thanks :-)

Cvincent/ DMA acc trouble

Current version when comment was posted: 0.53
Hi,

Strange. However, the DMA trouble you are correct about: that's what I assumed would be going wrong in the Email I just sent you.
DMA troube could exist because of memory problems indeed.

Maybe as a test you can force PCI mode in the driver via nv.settings (if it's a AGP card that is..)

Sharing INT's can be a problem as well, if the device driver for the other device(s) doesn't respect sharing rules. The nVidia driver does respect that, so you should look to the other driver for trouble.

If a second decice (network in your case?) doesn't respect INT sharing, it's indeed a 50-50 change (or whatever) if at a certain boot the gfx driver will work. It depends on which driver is loaded first (gfx or network in this hypothetical case).

Rudolf.

half-screen video in FS mode

Hi,

You are probably using R5's Mediaplayer. It has an error that results in this particular behaviour you describe when using hardware overlay: especially if the hardware tells the mediaplayer it cannot scale down much.

You're right: those two things shouldn't be of any infuence on each other: it's a strange fault.

Fix: use another Mediaplayer, or use Dano/Zeta.

Hope this helps..

Rudolf.

the top of the picture is on the half of my monitor.
This only happens with the clips from my cam.

Hi,

If you need to identify your card 'manually'please have a look at the driver homepage bugreport form.
There is an exact list there tying them together. All of the supported cards are there.

Hope this clarifies it.

Glad to hear the FX5500 is working OK!

Analog connected screens are still restricted to 4:3 aspect modes. Once DDC/EDID support has been setup this restriction is alleviated. It's on the todo list definately!!

Please bear with me a bit longer: got only one pair of hands ;-)

widescreen support on VGA out?

In reading documentation, it's hard to tell: are widescreen modes available when using the analog VGA output of FX-series cards? I have a 1280x720 monitor and must use the VGA input because I go through a KVM switch. If anyone can share, I'd appreciate insights.
Thanks in advance!

Hmm, sorry about that..
My provider filters for spam and viruses on that adress: and I have to confess I am glad they do, otherwise I would not be able to publish any adress anymore at all.
(did you hear that I got over 2000 mails per day not so long ago? 99% rubbish of course)

Probably the provided marked your sendmail host as 'unreliable', so you have to try via another provider. Or maybe try my Berlios or Sourceforge account? (will work if you are registered there only I guess).

If you can't get through at all, I could setup a temporary account and post that here I guess.

Bye! (and sorry once more..)

Rudolf.

Hi,

I'll try to post a number of benchmarking results on my website in a few days comparing PIO and DMA acceleration speeds (BeRoMeter).

And a 'funny' note:
On my newest system (P4 3.2Mhz, 800FSB, PCIe, with GeForce 6600GT) I saw the highest speeds ever.

Quake2 for instance runs at 100.0fps in software rendering mode (could be faster if nVidia would really use PCIe for it's speed.. )

But what I wanted to say is this:
It looks like at this high speed a app-server(?) fault start to show that I never saw before: dragging items over the screen is normally transparant, so you can see the item and the background it hovers over. Well, sometimes dragging gets invisible now (you only see the background and the cursor, but not the dragged item.)

Tested Dano for this behaviour, it's more or less reproducable.

BTW if I place a gfx card that's a bit slower the problem never shows up ;-)

Rudolf.

Hi,

StampTV works fine with the Haiku driver these days. Please make sure you have the latest version of the driver and not a (very) old one, as there once was a version that had this problem indeed. You can verify that by moving the video window a bit: if video is shown then, then this is the problem you are having.

If it still does not work, try to re-arrange the cards in your system so that the BT card gets another INT than the nVidia card has. Over here (just tested and verified) things are OK: VGA on INT11 and BT on INT10.

In theory it should work on the same int as well, but I don't really know the status of the BT driver concerning shared INTs (which the Haiku nVidia driver _does_ support).

BTW StampTV uses hardware overlay for showing video (single buffered) where available.

Hope this helps.. Keep me posted please :-)

Bye!

Rudolf.

TV card not working with TV/StampTV app with nVidia video card

Using this same TV card works fine on a different PC with a Matrox video card.

Hi,

As fas as I know all nVidia cards that have a DVI output work OK with it using this driver. On the other hand, the driver still relies on some pre-initing the card's BIOSes do as opposed to fully programming it itself: This should be no problem whatsoever however.

What the driver still lacks too, is DPMS programming for DVI connected panels. That might change in the near future though, as more info is slowly coming in.

The driver supports TNT1 upto GF5950, and also PCIe variants of those cards. Since a few days GeForce 6600 is up and running as well (accelerated with DMA: which works 2-3 times as fast as PIO mode 'in the old days'), but I haven't yet tried the DVI port.

GeForce 6200 and 6800 should be working soon as well.

video overlay on GF6600, 6200 and probably 6800(?) does not work for now: I think there's a new engine there that we have no info about yet.

AGP versions of nVidia cards all benefit from FW if you use the busmanager, speeding access up quite a bit. (there's a new benchmarking app being written by someone that tests explicitly bus transfers).

-----------

About the ATI driver I have not much info. You'd better ask Thomas or Euan about it's status. As far as I know the ATI driver has more DVI specific programming in place than I have, although you probably won't see any difference in output quality.

Maybe it has DPMS working, don't know.
I also don't know if all cards work, or if there are specific ones that don't.

Most ATI cards don't like AGP FW, so they won't benefi t from the busmanager to speedup access. That's a downside that's probably both measurable and visible.

=========

Well, that's what I have for you. I leave it up to you to find out more, and make a decision for yourself.. ;-)

Rudolf.

Best NVIDIA card for beos

Hello!

I'm going to buy a new computer, which I will use with Beos/Haiku too. Which card is best to run Beos at the moment with a DVI monitor? Ati or NVIDIA? I'd go for NVIDIA but would like to know if there's a specific card which works better then the others.
Bye & thanks for your works for Beos and Haiku!

BTW:

I am working locally on my HD on this as I am kind of hacking around, so this stuff isn't in MESA CVS or Haiku CVS. We'll see how we end up with this. The 2D driver will be updated to 'keep in sync' with the 3D experiments however inside Haiku CVS (As long as it's compatible at least).

Hi,

Yes, you are correct. I've started work on this, however: I cannot say yet if I can actually pull it off. I think I have a fair chance however, or I wouldn't try ;-)
As soon as I actually implement the first 3D acc, you'll probably know one way or the other.

I am working inside MESA's BeOS software driver ATM, as we don't yet have another interface for 3D accelerants. MESA has a '3D accelerant' now that loads the nvidia kerneldriver and will cooperate with the 2D accelerant through the kerneldriver's help. (shared info and direct card access).
So this 3D thing is loaded when a 3D app loads, and unloads when it finishes. I have already confirmed being able to use the acc engine, but now I have to get on with real work: setup 3D acc itself.

As I am new to MESA (especially), this will take a while I expect, but I am having fun with it already :-)

Bye!

Rudolf.
