Here is a suggestion from one of our JPBE.net members to fix DBGoogle so that it can be used with Japanese.

Under "GoogleIcon.cpp", "TrayView::MessageReceived(BMessage* message)" converts the text into hexadecimals using "char", which means that everything above 0x80 becomes a minus value. So, to start with, change "char" to "uchar". Then, "text" is defined as "const char*", but it should be "const uchar*" instead.
Also use: url.Append("http://www.google.com/search?hl=ja&q=");
Adding "&lr=lang_ja" as shown above will use www.google.co.jp (which is desired for search in Japanase).

The above changes should enable search in Japanese. We would be glad to test for you if you out out a new release with the suggested changes.

As i dont have jananese fonts on my system (i will not be very useful to me ;-)), i build another version with particular url for japanese google site.
Try it (new build @ http://beosland.free.fr/archives/DBGoogle) and tell me if it's better... The difference is that utf8 set in url....

Hiya,
I tried the Japanese locale for DBGoogle and found that it doesn't copy the Japanese characters properly to the google search field. Instead of searching what i typed in Japanese, it just searches for "?FFFF?FFFF?FFFF?FFFF?FFFF?FFFF" which doesn't return me anything but websits with alot of f's in it.
It seems to search the same F string no matter what i type (in Japanese) in DBGoogle.
Can you fix this bug so the Japanese locale is usable for searching in Japanese?

Japanese added in last version.
Maybe the google URL should managed the codepage also... reports any problem.
