At some stage you exported the wrong terminal
type:
export TERM=beterm
Before executing nano,lynx, etc
Or edit .profile and remove any other export TERM lines.

hi,
i downloaded nano, and i get this error on BeOS pro 5.03
$ nano
Error opening terminal: beterm.
$
how to fix it ?

pico is working, but i get the same error with lynx

That's what should be in the description. Thanks for the port. It is nice to have common tools across various platforms. Too bad my tools are mostly java....

nano is the GNU version of pico, a command line text editor that is very easy to use (almost as easy as a gui text editor). nano is replacing pico on most Linux distributions because it is distributed under the GPL (i'm not exactly sure what license pico fell under).
why use this instead of StyledEdit? You got me, but it's nice to have common tools across *nixes and it's good to see current software still being ported to good 'ol BeOS.

that about part is so you can tell us what it does so we aren't downloading things for spite. Please fill it in with a description of what Nano is.
