..then I opened the UserBootscript and fixed (split) the last line where the install had appended the startup command, and now it's fine.
Just a minor install-script bug. :-)

Hello. How about modifying the program so that it not only reacts to pressing the actual power button located on the computer case, but also to these extra luxury buttons on the enhanced (some say 'multimedia' or 'internet') keyboard? Currently I have 'Wake' 'Sleep' and 'Power' buttons on my keyboard... I guess it shouldn't be too hard to make this 'Power' button actually power off the system. Because I successfully use it to power up (the BIOS allows for that feature)!
Now I could even provide some scan codes, if only I knew how to grab them..

"can also have"... meaning it's not mandatory :P
But yeah that should be the case most of the time.

From the ACPI 2.0c specs:
"The power button can also have an additional capability to unconditionally transition the system from a hung working state to the G2 soft-off state. In the case where OSPM event handler is no longer able to respond to power button events, the power button override feature provides a back-up mechanism to unconditionally transition the system to the soft-off state. This feature can be used when the platform doesn't have a mechanical off button, which can also provide this function. ACPI defines that holding the power button active for four seconds or longer will generate a power button override event."
In short: you can always turn your PC off by pressing the power button for > 4 secs. And if that fails... unplugging the power cord or taking out the batteries will do the trick (as already adviced by mmu_man) ;-P

Well in some crashes the power button doesn't work anyway. Usually pulling off the battery for 10 seconds is enough :)

How does it work in case of a crash/freeze? I've intalled it on my Thinkpad a22m, and it works like a breeze, but I'm worried that I won't be able to use my power button to get out of a crash which is what I do when things go badly wrong...

Oh I've tried it all. Tried modifying the kernel config file (which always works on my other mobos) and the APM drivers, and none of it works for some reason. Same chipset as my other Intel board, just nogo. Also messed with BIOS. I'm not worried about it. :-P As if I really shut off my BeOS machine...

install the apm driver.
it's not finished, but at least it enables power down on shutdown.

Works very well for SiS730 too, if you add "info.device_id == 0x0730" in the proper place of the source code :-)
My mother board is a PCChips M810L.
Good work.

Works on my Acer Veriton FP2, which uses a custom Intel motherboard. It's based on the 815 chipset. Now if it'd power down on it's own.... Kinda moot pressing the power button 2 times.

though I don't entirely agree with the design, but it's an interesting thing.
(like it would be better to have the daemon start a customizable command, so I could use the OBOS shutdown, which can wait for some time to be canceled)
