According to http://www.arklinux.org/projects/dvdrtools/wiki/FrequentlyAskedQuestions , dvdrecord supports only "minus", DVD-R(W) media. Trying to use "plus", DVD+R(W) media will generate an error of "Sense Code: 0x30 Qual 0x05 (cannot write medium - incompatible format) Fru 0x0 "
On that page is a link to software that is capable of handling +R(W) media on linux, http://fy.chalmers.se/~appro/linux/DVD+RW/ . Anyone interested in taking a stab at this? It does not build out of the box on R5.
Oooohh... Jörg Schilling has BeOS/Zeta binaries of ProDVD!

With it, my drive was able to do DVD-R in dummy and a DVD+RW <1gb disc. The binary has a limitation, however [quote]

I swap the sony DRU500+ by a new NEC ND3500 (DVD+-RW@16x, DVD+R9@4X) and i could burn my ISO file with dvdrecord... It's better ;-P

I tried 2 dvd-rw media from different brand.
The output is the following. The iso file is UDF made under Helios.

DVDRecord to write to dvd-disks with a Pioneer A05 -R-RW writer.
The original version of the DVD driver was written by N. Mihalache, and
can be downloaded as a patch to cdrtools 1.11a8
It is has been developed using a Pioneer DVR-A03 DVD writer and a NEC SD-R 5002 writer; any other MMC
compliant hardware is likely to work. (???)

Do you have successfully burn some dvd?R/W ?
If yes, which types and what burner do you use ?
got a dvdrecord 1.6 compile by myself but i can't burn any dvd-rw with my Sony DRU500A... :-(
BTW blank runs.

I have no problems with blanking dvd-rw or cd-rw's
so try a diffrent brand of disk ... maybe
and keep the -dummy mode for testing
