Just tried BSnow on my new PC for the first time and it isn't falling gently onto my desktop... it is more like a blinding, driving blizzard. On the bright side there is no flicker. :)

Maybe my machine is too fast? (1.8 ghz - 333 fsb with nvidia + agp). Cool tho'. :)

Another option is to compile ShelfInspector:
/boot/optional/sample-code/application_kit/ShelfInspector/
It allows you to delete a single replicant from the available shelfs.

Thanks for the hints. I didn't think of looking in the right downmost corner; deleting all replicants of Tracker was not an option here. And I was using LocaleTracker on BeOS R5.0.3 so yes, the NewFS problem was probably present there too.

Running BSnow again should change the message in the small window, into "click me to remove BSnow", which you should do.
Sometimes it doesn't change, mostly because you are using Tracker.NewFS, which has some bad changes (i.e. it doesn't have the Twitcher window as 0, so BSnow doesn't get the correct window when checking for the Desktop window...). In that case you can also try right-clicking the replicant dragger, which is right-bottom of the screen (Deskbar might hide it).

Btw, the replicant entry in Deskbar's menu is only to show or hide the draggers, not to remove them.

Nice toy!

This is a really nice toy, thanks! No problems on BeOS 5.03 with the latest OpenTracker on an old 333MHz K6-2 system. It didn't max out the CPU completely, but runs quite slow of course.

Btw, container is included in R5 too ;)
/boot/optional/sample-code/application_kit/Container

Thanks again,
Pete

ummm ... it crashed tracker and maxed cpu

Killing this app is simple

Since it is a replicant, it has a standard Replicant handle. Watch closely the right-bottom corner of the desktop - you'll find the handle there. Right-click it and choose "Delete".

Another way you may try is to disable replicants via the Deskbar settings. (Don't know if it works).

Finally, you may delete the file /boot/home/config/settings/Tracker/tracker_shelf . It will free your desktop from all installed replicants. (A bit rude solution, though :-) ).

BTW, dragging the BSnow into Container (a demo program from BeOS R4.5) allows snowfall in a window! :-)

How to kill this thing?

Nice effect, if indeed not flickerfree ;-D The fallen snow could be a little more detailed though.

BTW, maybe this is a dumb question but how on earth do I get rid of it when I have dragged the replicant onto my desktop? I have killed the thread in Tracker but my system did not really seem to like that. One should think that a v1.0 includes some way to return to what once was but I'm too dumb to figure how.

TALIA!

Nice...

Nice, but a bit too much flicker for my tastes.

So I decided to go ahead and double buffer the app.

Of course, that ain't enough, as the Tracker flickered.

So I decided to spend a little bit of time this morning double buffering ALL of Tracker.

That is now done, and I have no flicker at all, anywhere. :-)

Now, the bizarre item in all this is that the random wind thing seems to no longer work, which is fairly bizarre considering the method of double buffering I'm using is used in most of my apps and custom API.

The only downside is that the double buffering methods are only workable for dano and with liblooncraz. And liblooncraz.so is very entrenched with Dano-specific symbols and coding. And, in some cases, very PhOS specific.

So, all you lucky devils willing to try out beta 5, prepare for a flicker-free environment, and some really neat app developing 'stuff.' :-)
