and, yes... i forgot to say : remember that file size estimation could be wrong in dvd output :
the calculation of the bitrate is obtained on the size of DVD (DVD-9, DVD-5, DVD-4), but mpeg2 video codec could not reach the high bitrate if the stream don't need : i mean if b-moggie calculated a bitrate of 3000 kb/s, we don't know if the stream to encode will reach those 3000 kb/s, perhaps we will have only 2000 kb/s; in fact, the estimation file size is around the highest file size you could obtain (depending i the duration report is right or wrong, sure)

hmmm... i can't tell.
i don't know how VirtualDub is working...;
perhaps it automatically changes the bitrate depending of the codec (mpeg2 needs to have a high bitrate to be nice, divx, or mpeg4 doesn't)
the only thing i can answer is that the file output size in b-moggie depends on bitrate; and bitrate can varry if the codec supports VBR, and depends on the buffer and motion detectors. (actions movies could see their bitrate grown when there is a lot of motion)

But for example in Windows VirtualDub while changing codec output file size is also changed. Why so?

size

hi
if you talk about estimated output file size, it is calculated using the bitrate of the video and the bitrate of the audio you set and the duration to encode. If the bitrate is the same, file will have almost the same size (then it depends on VBR, variable bitrate of certain file format) even if it is mpeg2 or mpeg1 or avi or anything else (not raw video : it is very large). Anyway, duration of the files, detected by libavcodec, may be wrong, so estimated output size will be wrong.
So, this size doesn't depend of video codec, but of ((video + audio) bitrate)*duration ; if i made an error (i perhaps forgot to add the audio bitrate, i can't remember), i'm sorry for this.

Why size of encoded file is defined only by video stream and not by used codec (mpeg2, mpeg4 and others give the same size)?

template is to save your actual settings : if you often use the same settings, you can save them, and then reload them easily : for example you often use "mpeg4" codec, 720*576 res, mp3 audio codec 128 kb audio ...etc... , so you can save all those settings in a file you could name "my divx settings" and then you will be able to reload "my divx settings" selecting it in the list...

hey, I changed the name of my little all in one package I made for etno, except I forgot that I needed to remind everyone else about it so the link is broken to my download on the download page on bebits for bud project.
I renamed it more user friendly to this:
Bud-Project_all_programs+libs{by Mr X}.zip

and can be downloaded here:

sorry to all my fans, but I have fixed it now ;)

hmmm, for the quit button, i may forgot to verify the code.... sorry... in fact, i never use it ;)

thank you for the package, but b-moggie just need liblayout.so as external lib (and some native libs, sure) to work. So it don't really need to be packaged with others libs. That can be make for bud s@ encoder and bud tools.
remember : b-moggie is experimental, using the player can make b-moggie crash. It needs to be full tested. bud S@ encoder is functional, except it doesn't include ogg/vorbis, xvid and aac supports.there is also a little bug (a stupid error from me i've removed now) that can make bud crash when clicking on the open button.
Anyway, thank you for your interest, Mr BeOS X, and i'll have a look at the package you made and put it online as soon as i can...

thanks as that worked. why not include all three tools from the bud s.@. Project and the libyaout.so in one file, to simplify installation and use?

one more thing- in B-Moggie when I hit the 'quit' button in the set/about selector nothing happens.

Someone reported a similar error with zookeeper, due to having spaces in the path. Maybe try ensuring you put bud somewhere that doesn't have any spaces in the path.

When I try to join avi's, I get an error stating:

What's up with that? Do I need to install something else, or configure something? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I don't know what to do as I have never seen this one before. Running Zeta RC3 and have both Bud programs installed...encoder and tools. Any ideas appreciated.

:), you've made an excellent and very very useful app, i use to convert formats, make VCD's, etc with videos and in BeOS before bud it wasn't very easy (everything with command line), YellowTab made ffmpegGUI, nice app but i missed somethings but then i tried BUD wow!! it saved my life ;), i hope someday you can update BUD again but for now it's one of my favourite beos apps :D.
By the way your help was very useful for me, you know what i mean. Thanks for all etno.

hi zuMi,
first of all, i don't work on the libs: and the libs i use (11102004 if i remember) don't support matroska encoding...(but decoding should work). I made recent builds of the libs but i didn't try to work on bud with this libs and i don't know if libav*.so actually supports matroska encoding (but i don't think) cause they got a little change in the code that would made me rewrite a little part of bud (i miss time).
About ogg, and vorbis, i will watch what can be done...
Anyway, i hope you like bud and find it useful

sorry...
so you should mux it in bud tools for mpeg, or using ffmpeg command line for any other format....
you also should try to encode each track of your exported film in bud disabling the other track(audio for video, video for audio), then remux them in bud tools
indeo5 is not supported by libavcodec used by bud...
i will post more about this soon but i can't tonight now... i've experienced many problem with muxed personalstudio exported files...

Sound encoding issue from pjpeg video / dv
 By fred.c - Posted on January 27, 2005 - 06:53:58   (#15590)
Current version when comment was posted: LR 11052005
Bonjour

I've tried to encode video recorded with personalStudio wih bud s.@ light.

if encoded from pegasus-jpeg (quicktime format, pjpeg codec from Adamation), mpeg video quality is just fine but there's some trouble muxing sound correctly.

Current solution for me is using aenc to extract sound and then muxing it with the mpeg video m1v encoded with bud.

if I try to encode a avi dv file, bud tells me that the clip does not contain sound but not all the time.

I hope my remarks will help

I would be delighted to be able to encode from Intel Indeo Realtime codec but I guess this one is not included in the codec lib bud is based on.

Thanks etno, you've done a fine job anyway.
