Thank you for the report.
I fixed the package-bug with the broken link.
The package was made on Zeta, and so I didn't notice, that the link can't work on R5.
I now made a softlink, so that you can copy the DeskbarEyes directory everywhere you want.
That's what I could do immediately, as I made the package.
I will tell the coder of the app to research for the problem with the missing symbol. Hope we can fix that too.
Regards, Das Jott

Dear, Team Maui,
Thanks so much for giving me credit in your application. I enjoyed making the eyes and hope others will enjoy them.
With this last release I have encountered an issue using R5.0.3 (net-server). I installed the new package twice to be sure I installed the correct version from the package, and I have encountered the same issue. I get the following when I click on the DeskBarEyes Be Application in the /boot/apps/DeskbarEyes folder:
Could not open "DeskbarEyes" (Missing symbol: ReadytoLoop__7BLooperPQ27BLooper10loop_state).
I think this has something to do with the application being built for BONE, however, I am not a BeOS programmer and know next to nothing about this sort of thing.
In any case, I also have a broken link in the same folder. "Images" which links to a non-existent folder in my system -->
/boot/apps/Tools/DeskbarEyes/Default.
Perhaps this was a folder created in your previous versions. I do not remember because I moved my DeskbarEyes folder to my own location different from where your package installed the previous version.
In any case, I appreciate the continued effort, and hope to get to see the improvements soon.
Thanks,
Sebastian

Hello, everyone,
I have not been working too much on the eye images lately, however, rather than just share them on BeShare, since I am not always available and have a firewall, I found a place to put them for your downloading pleasure. I hope you like them. My package has a lot more eyes than come with the Deskbar Eyes package. Not all of them are really refined, but all useable. I, myself, particularly like "Shades" and "Human Multi." I don't know if I will be working on them any time soon. Feel free to mess around with them and make your own. I've considered putting them up on Bebits, however, I want to perhaps package the "better" ones together at a later time, so it is more professional. The images here are pretty much averything I've made that function.
To change the eyes, remove the originals from the "Images" folder, and replace them with your new eyes. Of, course, you will need to quit and restart the eyes, for the changes to occur.

Enjoy!!

I wonder then if it would be possible to put the eyes anywhere one chooses on the desktop? As a replicant perhaps?

As far as I know, it is not pssoible to install an application as an Icon on the menu-button.
The menu-button only accepts simple pictures.

I'm not a programmer, just an end-user who loves BeOS. And who can't help making suggestions, to be taken or left. Here's another one: I wonder whether it would be possible to position Deskbar Eyes where the BeOS logo is in the Deskbar. That way they would be visible all the time for those of us whose windows hide it...

You mean the screenshot on the DeskbarEyes-projectpage?
It is just an animated gif-picture and it's not as easy as "simply implement them"...
As you can read on the page, it is planned to integrate much more features to DeskbarEyes.
Please do not only expect things from Team maui! TEAM maui is for everyone to join in.
Everybody is able to join the team - contact us and/or download the sources on the page.
So if you are able and motivated to implement such nice features as tired eyes and moving eye-lids, feel free to do it! :-)
Again: TEAM maui is NOT just another group of guys, who just makes BeOS/Zeta-stuff for the "community".
No, it's a place where people come together, help each other, learn more about programming or design or whatever and by the way create some funny things.
More Infos on the TEAM maui homepage.
Visit, contact, join and help the TEAM maui.
Greetings :-)

On your website you have even better eyes, with lids that close. How about implementing them in this app. so that it would look like they go to sleep if the mouse is not being used?

You can change the eyes, that are included in this package, after the Installation too.
Go to your DeskbarEyes folder and start Eyechange.
With that script you can choose another pair of eyes, at any time ;-)

Hello choulth! Please read the text about the changes in Version 0.1 (New Eyes) on the Bebits site of Deskbareyes. While Markus Maier is still working on the preferences we had to make a small tool for the eyeschange. You can find it in the daskbareyes folder.
ps: would you like to join the team? We need somebody for our communication (e.g. press releases) - i know you would fit into the team ;) !
Best wishes by a fan of choulths corner!

The Preferences Windows does not open on Zeta RC2. The About box works as usual. Any idea? I can´t change the eyes-set now and have to look into Sammy Davies Jr. eyes all the time :D

As you can read also in the opening-text of the new package, we added some new eyes, created by Mr. Arana - thanks for this great eye-themes (I use the moving-lids :-)
Unfortunately the preferences are not implemented yet, so that we had to invent a provisional selection-possibility. The new selection-procedure at the end of the (new) Installation would have got too long, if we put all recieved eye-themes in the new package.
The "working-eyes" are still in the Images folder (without any number):
Left_Eyes and
Right_Eyes
Both files with a ".def" are the default eyes not working in that moment.
We think about Update or rechange Packages (with scripts) for DeskbarEyes, if not anyone feels so free and wants to make the preferences to offer ALL these great eyes, arriving us... ;-)
Greetings
Help, where you can help! ;)

Thanks to Team Maui for packaging what I sent!
Just a note, I think, at this point, at least for me, it is easier to develop eyes with the older version of Deskbar Eyes, since the eyes aren't coded to the eyechanging script. As GenkiColo said below, just replace the eyes in the images folder.
I've got some more eyes available on BeShare, all labeled. I'll try to put everything I've done in there, so you can mess around with them. Team Maui may decide to package them later. Thanks againg, Team Maui!!

What about cat-eyes, manga-eyes, alien-eyes, vampire-eyes and so on? The Team Maui would like to get some of those...it´s quite simple, just use the images in the app folder of deskbareyes and change them like you want. Send this to Team Maui and then it will be in the next release of this app. And you will be mentioned as well.

Yes, you´re right..,the source is not included in the Zip-File. But if you want to help the project you can contact the team and get your copy of the source. There are several things that are discussed to join the sourcecode. Maybe you or some other Geeks are interested to help in a particular way. That would be really nice. And all other people who can´t code (like me) but maybe want to draw nice alternative eyes (like cat-eyes or alien-eyes) are invented to send them to the team....
Thanks

Not I care that much because I'm not using Zeta,
but... am I the only one who can't see where is the source!?
Anyway, was a good day seeing The Eyes coming back from the old days (was from my Atari ST GEM menu bar for me, 15 years ago!!!).

If Zeta freezes, it is the fault of Zeta. No application should be able to freeze the OS and DeskbarEyes is a normal application. As it works well under R5 and Zeta wants to be compatible to R5, this is also a Zeta issue. As a release candidate user of Zeta, it is your job to report the problems to yellowTab, so please do so. And then there is the source, anyone can have a look into it to find out what's causing problems.

... under Zeta RC 1 SP 2 here there are issues which may or may not be related to my inability to update any of my machines to RC 2 / SP 3. When running DeskbarEyes I can literally count on the machine to freeze after a couple of work space switches. Also, the left mouse button tends to stop working on Tracker windows. I like the little eyes too, and when (if) one day Zeta R1 shall be released, I'd love to have this thingy coming with it and behaving properly (instead of ZEdit or Jukebox or ToDo or whatever inhouse uselessness they are wasting their time on).

This is just what BeOS has been lacking these past few years. :) One idea might be to have it do silly things when certain actions are performed, like have the eyes roll around when you open an app or something. Also, have them be "morning eyes" or "evening eyes" (you, know, blood shot at certain times).
