Shweet, thanks! I had to add the export DISPLAY line and the two lines from userbootscript:

mkdir /usr
ln -s /boot/apps/X11R6.4 /usr/X11

...but after that it worked great! Thanks very much!

you should first export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=

look into your .profile in home, there should be something for X11, and use this also for your script

Launching scripts?

Hi guys...

I'm a total dunce at this, and I've tried, but I can't figure it out. I have a script that launches Xbeosnative and rdesktop and makes it fullscreen, which works fine if I just launch a terminal and type the script name, but when I assign the script to a SpicyKey, it does nothing. If I assign "/boot/apps/Terminal /blah/scriptname" to the key, it opens a Terminal that says "Missing library" for both of the programs I launch from within the script, even if, in the script, I re-export the path and/or cd to where each program is before launching. Am I missing something here?

Thanks,
Kev

Now it works! I shall read the article before posting... *sorry*

I have some keys mapped:

fn+"TouchpadBlockSymbol" 0xf7
fn+"SilentModeSymbol" (On) 0xf4
fn+"SilentModeSymbol" (Off) 0xf5

All other keys dont deliver a code. I think these keys already defined by default "media keys" like mute, volume, etc.

can you add an field, where i can simply insert the keycode instead the complete key-combination?!

It might be possible for SpicyKeys to intercept those key-combos now, with a little work... read Nathan Schrenk's article on advanced keyboard mappings here: http://www.lcscanada.com/jaf/KeyboardMapping.zip and see if you get anywhere...

Is it possible to extend your prog for the fn key and their addional/combineable keys? (mute, volume, brightness, etc.)

would be great! :-)

Now it works :-)

I have made a new installation of ZETA RC3 and copyed also "spicykeycatcher" on to system directory. After that it works fine.

I am using SpicyKey with Zeta RC3

Hello, i am using SpicyKey and the SmartKeyboard app to use the additional keys of my mulitmedia keyboard
together with Zeta RC3. At the beginning i had also the problem that after the installation SpicyKey didn't work.
But i found out that the installation script from SpicyKey tried to copy the SpicyKeyCatcher.x86 into the directory /boot/home/config/add-ons/input_server/filters , but in /boot/home/config/add-ons/input_server are existing an app with this name. So i copied by hand the SpicyKeyCatcher.x86 to the system directory
/boot/beos/system/add-ons/input_server/filters. There is already the filters directory.
After a reboot it worked together with the SmartKeyboard app and i could define the keys to use them as a shortcut for starting my browser, email ... and changing the sound level.

Recompiling

Who can recompile SpicyKey?
Under R5 i can mange alot of shortcuts, include Soundplay, with Spicykey.
Please can someone make a ZETA version, or tell whow to do it?

Zeta, SpicyKeys and other input_server filters. Relinking needed.

I think all utils which use input_server filters technolology must be recompiled under zeta with linking agains input_server itself instead lib in order to work under Dano/Zeta
So special version required.
Same thing happens with other bebits apps,e.g.
"Switcher"
and
"InstantClick"

No installation under ZETA RC3

When i try to install SpiceKey under ZETA RC3 the tracker crashs. When i make a manuel installation from my second partition, i get spicykey starting, but not one shortcut works.
Does SpicyKey run under ZETA or only R5?

Mouse Events w/o Mouse plugged in

Hi,

Maybe it's just my machine, but I managed to kill my Deskbar (not crash it), just became blank while trying to navigate my Be Menu with the keyboard.

It happened after pressing SpicyKey shortcut to click on Be Menu button without my mouse plugged in (I have one mouse, two computers, no KVM yet), and after a couple key presses, the Deskbar totally lost the plot.

Not sure if this is a SpicyKey thing or not, but if so, hope can be fixed =)

SpicyKeys + Summon + Hey

With "hey" version 1.2.7 and Summon version 1.0, you can now have Terminals appear in pre-specified directories at the press of a button. Since I found that when working on a particular project, I always opened two terminals in a specific directory and moved them to the bottom of the screen; with SpicyKeys I have now bound F1 to execute a little script which contains

Summon -t dir1 /boot/home/dir1
Summon -t dir2 /boot/home/dir2
hey Terminal set Frame of Window dir1 to BRect[814,811,1939,1196]
hey Terminal set Frame of Window dir2 to BRect[255,811,803,1196]

Very handy!

Well, what can i say? 1st time i saw SpicyKeys i thought that i don't need it, but year later i ran it agait and play with it, and it was so easy to setup, and other think, so i show it to all my friends, but
one thing i missing is that home button doesn't put cursot at the begin of the field, so if you implement this feature SpicyKeys will be complete for me!
P.S. sorry for my terrible english.

For me, SpicyKeys is the final nail in the Windows coffin

There are several keyboard shortcuts in Windows that are part of my daily habits (work...), now I can to use them in BeOS :-)

Winkey+D for ShowDesktop
http://www.bebits.com/app/2819

Winkey+R for Terminal

Winkey+E for Tracker (root)

Winkey+S for StyleEdit

The only one that I'm having trouble configuring is Winkey+Break for System Preferences, oh well... I'll settle for Winkey+Backspace :-)

Prog.

here's how I got irman to work with cl-amp and spicykeys.
1. download clr
2. write 2 line script to call clr
#!/bin/sh
clr play
3. save script as /boot/home/config/scripts/clr_play and make it executable
4. in spicykeys: add new spicykey, set shift, control, alt and window to none, click on key column, push play on remote (shows up as #6d2ab94c), then in application column type /boot/home/config/scripts/clr_play, save and apply.

this is probably not the best way, but I'm not a programmer.

I hope this helps. I think v1.27 addresses my concern below... I'll try it out tonight.

Futureman how did you get the irman to work with spicykeys. I can make the irman do only two things. In a terminal window the cursor will stop flashing when I press a key on a remote. In the keymap app when I press a key on the remote the keymap app crashes.

Thanks

this is a great app. I'm trying to use it in a music box w/ irman. I'd like to be able to tab and shift tab thru tracker windows to select tracks with the remote. so, would it be possible to add a shift tab like /t for tab, /n for enter (newline). or is it possible to add arrow keys to the output. thanks.

I agree.....but
