Live Beos !!! Great Work !!!
I can boot with AMD kernel - everything fine!

If i install XbeoX to HD, then press <space>, then select my beos partition, i see "kernel_intel" there. If i continue, it hangs immediately. I have an AthlonXP 1800+
on MSI K7T-Turbo.

Virus questions?

First of all I want to thank you for Xbeox livecd. I ran acrossed it my a Google search typo looking for "Xbox LiveCD".

My first question which I think I allready know the answer to is: Does the Xbeox multi-boot try writing to Hard drives boot record. IT' triggered my motherboards BIOS virus alarm. No Virus, right! I disabled my IDE in the BIOS and tried Xboex anyway.

Question 2: Memtest did not work on my PC. The memtest from the Linux INSERT livecd does work on my PC.

Question 3: Could not get the sound for my CMI8338 sound chipset to work. About a year ago I did get it work wit BeOS 5 PE edition to work by reloading a newer driver from bebits. Could you point me to a howto on remastering your Xbeox liveCD so I could try to get my sound working?

Keep up the good work!!!

RAM for network?

Why don t you use RAM (using AGMSfilesystem for example) instead of floppy to setup Network config ?
(less and less new PCs have floppy: replaced by media-and-other-cards)

And question: how do you setup bosch to test the CD? I am interested for testing my Bootscript.cd replacements.

Hopefully I am known for trying to help others with beos issues. I can't write apps or port apps so I am glad to see others spend their free time working on any small or large part of the beos world.

To the authors, I think you have done a good job. Please don't listen to negative comments. Please continue to help others with your work.

As a note the guidelines are copied here.

"Talkback Guidelines: Talkback is where you can post questions, comments, and tips about this bit of software. All the usual rules apply; in general, be polite, watch your language, and that sort of thing. We're running a family web site here. :-)"

I like the part about be polite.

First of all let me point out that Eugenia is a well respected member of the BeOS community who is known for her software contributions and ripping reviews. What Eugenia has stated here may not have been sugar coated, but it's all true. As always she is dead on and she knows what she's doing. It is in the best interest of the developers to get off their high horse and attempt to address the issues that she has brought up.

Yes, the CD works as it is. HOWEVER, it would be BETTER if you took Eugenia's advice. She is also correct that making the suggested changes would bring the product more in line with the BeOS philosophy. Since the target of the CD seems to be bringing the BeOS to new users the BeOS philosophy of simplicity and elegance is a HUGELY important.

The developers should feel blessed (in that damn, she's right I have a lot to do kind of way) that Eugenia has picked up on their little project. From what I've seen over the years her advice could well help any project.

Thank's for the done tests! this ' image ' has one year of life therefore I go to bring up to date each time more! I am only placing what it goes to turn trend (fashion) and everything that is new calls the attention! Good or bad! e I thank the critical ones and opinions, all and everything well are come! But I am certain that to twirl the LiveCD to see that and new thing (despite that already it has one year... I already I said this; -) photos here http://www.motoyama.hpg.ig.com.br/01/indexbe.html

Maybe not, but I can (and have) still done better, therefore, when I see such badly put together effort with cheap shots, I gotta talk. I have to say it again: if these guys need to be taken seriously, they need to try more. I mean, seriously, do you think I or anyone else who respects him/herself wants to try out software on his/her computer that might be put together as patchy/questionable as that menu reveals? I think not. And that's a friendly advise to these guys. I'd LOVE to see their Live CD succeed (that's why I HAVE linked their effort from osnews today (remember?)), but they just need to be more serious about it.

"Guys, if you want us to take you seriously, fix your english in that menu and your attitude."

Eugenia, you're not one to talk about either English or attitude.

Geez relax a little...

I am happy just to have this release. You can offer some suggestions, but don't have to be rude to the developer (saying things like WTF)... this is what BeOS is not about.

I think it's common sense the way the menu is laid out. And most people would understand that, besides maybe he doesn't know how to make it transparent.

Furthermore, you're one to talk about the English comments! :)

WTF?
"Boot first harddisk [M$ oh NO!! :-(]"

Guys, if you want us to take you seriously, fix your english in that menu and your attitude.

You could have just written:

ESC] Boot from hard disk

and why do people need to run a "memoty Test tool"? (sic). You should run the "memoty" test on boot and advise the user [if needed] instead of complicating that menu for no reason.

The screenshot was not loading earlier for me. Seeing that "boot from Intel" now, will not make any sense for most people. I hope the developer accepts some input from english speaking people to fix this. Maybe something like "For Intel processor-based machines, select this" would be more appropriate.

Besides, there are many people who really don't know what CPUs they are running. Both patches should be installed and work transparently to the user, the user should NOT have to know what CPU is underneath him. This was not what BeOS was all about.
