the addons is unused under Zeta/bone so don't care.
After reboot, you will have a new network interface to configure in Network prefs.

Actually the dirs in the "home" directory exists in zeta.
Only the "/boot" directories don't. I tried creating them and to no avail...
ljr, can you please tell me the 2 folders (and links) you have for 3c940. A simple "Find" for "3c940" will reveal ALL the drivers locations, could you please paste in the result of the Search (along with the filesize so I know which is add-on and which is driver) ??

You right, zeta misses some folders so must create them before installing 3c940 driver :
/boot/home/config/settings/add-ons/kernel/drivers/bin
/boot/home/config/settings/add-ons/kernel/drivers/dev/net
"mkdir -p" should create the full tree for you
After, put 3c940 driver in ..../bin and creates a links in ../dev/net

How did you get it to work on Zeta Neo?
The readme tells you to copy files and create links in folders that no longer exist in Neo. That's why I'm having trouble installing it.
Thank-you in advance for any help.

Will this driver work on Zeta Neo? The instructions in the readme no longer apply. I tried installing it anyway, and it hang the system at every bootup.
If you know how to make it work on Neo, or if you know about an alternative Marvell 88E8001 driver that works, please tell.
Thank-you in advance.

The 3C905 cards are 10 or 10/100 cards at the best. This is a driver for the gigabit cards
If the 3C905 is working and properly seated, BeOS can use it. I use them in all my Desktops because I got a few tenpacks of them cheaply, cheaper than the RTL8139 crud that most people use...

Thanks! I realize this is off topic, but I think this is big news, because I was under the distinct impression, based on lots of news and discussion coverage about the chipset limitations of BeOS 5, frozen in time as its kernel is, that these new K8 motherboards had no hope of running BeOS without a serious kernel patch that didn't exist because no one (but Palm) has the necessary parts of kernel source.
This Talkback thread is the only place where I can find where people are mentioning that they are running BeOS on K8 processors and their modern boards.
The trick I had to find by trial and error hacking is that I had to hold down the shift and ctrl keys while booting to get to the safe mode menu and set the safe option that tells BeOS not to call the BIOS before continuing the boot process. It then comes up just fine, utilizing the modern nvidia quadro card correctly.
So much for the notion that BeOS is stuck on "old" hardware. This makes it seem more modern and alive than ever.

No problems if you not use SATA controllers.
So the followind is managed :
- AMD64 is here as AMD Unknown,
- PATA with IDE replacement,
- USB2 under Dano/Zeta (or with the USB_Patch for Beos5),
- FireWire is present under Media but not tested,
- sound not tested as i still use my old sblive!
- ETH1000 is managed with 3c940 driver.
So great choice.

I can't get the driver to work on my Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000 board. The board has a Marvell Yukon chip and the driver appears to load OK, but the led light for the lan stays off and there is no network traffic.
It makes no difference if I use static IP or DHCP, there is no connection with my router. Any ideas?

I need some more informations:
- your os (BeOS, Zeta, BONE/net_server),
- listdev command ouput,
- syslog file (you need to activate the logging). Do the command grep 3c940 /var/log/syslog > 3c940.log and send me the file 3c940.log.

MYOB, the Realtek 8201BL is a PHY device. The important thing is the MAC processor and it is a nVidia MCP-T integrated so the Realtek gigabit driver will not work in this case.

Hehe actually since you are doing 3com stuff and thus i was wondering if by possibillity you could make the 3com 556 mini-pci NIC/Modem to work.... though i dont really care for the modem. In all other OS´es except windows. The 556 is handeled by the 3d900series of drivers and those dont seem to work in BeOS for this particular card. Anyways nice work!
