I finally found the original description of problem and fix: http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:jdflxaqSSJMJ:www.mail-archive.com/linux-usb-devel%40lists.sourceforge.net/msg36960.html+0x6205+0x040d&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=11&gl=us

It also contains a link to a more detailed description of the problem as it happens on another device. Good luck with the Haiku version!

The parameters probably the same, but anyway those quirks are driver-specific. It can help, but sometime cannot help too. Unfortunately I do not remember are we have tried to optimize settings or not. But I think we have do this anyway. I hope I'll improve this in Haiku version of the module. Thank you for information.

Siarzhuk, we exchanged emails about this device over a year ago; only the first cardslot works. It used to fail under Ubuntu also, but started working a while back. I searched for patches and came up with this:
http://www.koders.com/c/fid2D28E1B6556012A54C694334AA8281A8798B6C69.aspx#L99

This also has some possibly-useful discussion:
http://www.ussg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0509.3/0857.html

Does the BeOS driver use similar paramaters? Does this provide any clue why the system only sees the 1st card slot, not the 2nd?

Thanks for writing this very useful driver!

Don't see anything in DriveSetup? Looks like generic problems with usb stack. Do you have USB patches installed? The Terminal mounting is sismple - open the Terminal application and run

mountvolume

a brief help goes out. Use the list command to see mountable volumes and the name of volume to mount required volume.

Sorry, I forgot to downsize them before I brought them up here to the library, and ironically the library has no software that supports tga.

I put two images in this folder, both are snap shots of my USB Drive on two different USB ports, the one is the internal USB, the other is a 2.0 card I have installed.

If you see your hardware in USB Commander it is not a 100% garantee to get it worked. USB Commander "works" with _any_ USB hardware. So I need to look on your USB device information. Get it by enclosed tool or just send me an your device inforamation screenshot from USB Commander.

You can open Terminal and do the following:

ls --help
cp --help

almost any terminal command give the brief information about usage.

But this Terminal operation is for testing only. There was a bug with New FS-Based Tracker versions. Try the following alpha: http://zharik.host.sk/prahramy/usb_scsi-0.1.0-dev-9994.zip I have tried to fix something. But this is a developer version - can contain a lot of other problems. Or just install "official" OpenTracker. :-)

You have so many MP3 sticks - are you working in computer shop? :-)

Zeta's driver AFAIK is based on my code. Probably they are fixed something - don't know. But they use also an updated SCSI bus manager. But the one in R5 - was too far from perfection. :-( Many problems come from this. As soon as Haiku USB stack comes to working state - I'll adapt my code for it. Until that I see no sence to continue fight with R5. :-\ Sorry.

It is better to continue our discussion by e-mail at imker<...>gmx.li :-)

I tried a few more MP3 sticks.
Now I have one which is not recognized when
I plug it in, but it is when I reboot.
Anyway under Zeta ( also need a reboot ) it seems to
work fine and rather fast. Under BeOSmax I cannot drag
bigger files to or from the stick.
With terminal I can make folders and copy and move
files from one folder to another.
The only problem seems to be that I cannot copy
files from my harddisk to the USBdrive.
What is the terminal command for doing that?

Are there things I must reinstall to be sure I have
the USB patches right?

All other USB memory stick and MP3 players
did not work. They can be mounted and all
files show up but I cannot up- or download
anything, it reacts slow and then it freezes.
Sometimes very small files can be uploaded.

BTW a cardreader which I use for reading SD cards
have no such problem.

Which system do you use? R5? Does you have USB patches applied? If you see no changes in /dev/bus/usb after plugging in you device - the usb subsystem has problems. It's not a USB Storage Module issue. Try to find out the problem with your USB first.

Doing $ ls -alR /dev/bus/usb/ before and after plugging the pendrive shows the same content. What to do now ? On dano everything is ok.

Everything in windoze "needs" very special driver.
Without actual technical need for that.

Even CRT-monitors and "real hardware" modems (driver in classical meaning is absolute non-sense for such devices).

Actually, lot of such drivers using common very generic core, like, for example, TV-cards or all usb-memory devices (and Fuji cameras are just that in this regards - just generic usb storage), but due ancient, legacy and stochastic MS approach to h/w recoginition Windoze requires to have special separate configuration descriptions for allmost all microscopic differencies in h/w configurations.

Thus, for every vendor name and minor variation of same device there are entries created. And for creating such distinctive entries Windows require such "special drivers".

Second reason is lazyness of h/w manufacturers who frequently omit some features reuired by standard, and special driver is workaround for such hackiness.
And not onlly cheap chinese no-names do so, but former brandnames, like HP last years.

I do understand your cardreader works under BeOS and read CF cards but you don't know if it reads XD cards.

By reading my comment again, I do understand your question about Zeta and Windows but as you see in the headline it's BeOS Pro R5.0.3

About your camera, well it has a really big zoom, but no image stabilization and a small sensor, if you are planing to use the zoom all the way you will get fuzzy images unless you use a tripod.
Think about what you really want to use your camera for and don't fool yourself by a smart looking exterior, they just want your money.

Check this page: http://www.dpreview.com, the Buying Guide is a fantastic tool when deciding what to buy.

I'm useing SanDisk ImageMate 12 in 1 Reader/Writer to read my CF cards and it works perfectly for me. The cardreader accepts xD cards, but I can't say if it works under BeOS.
PS. Why do you want to buy a camera for xD card, xD cards are rare and expensive compared to SD cards and CF cards. I would go with SD cards.

USB card reader - only one slot working

Current version when comment was posted: 0.1.0-alpha-1
Hi! I have a card reader with a strange issue: only one of two slots works. Here's the device info as displayed by yT Zeta USB Preferences panel:
Product: USB 2.0 Card Reader
Manufacturer: VIA Technologies Inc.
Serial Number: 000000049598
Device Type: External Storage (8/6/80)
Vendor ID: 0x040d
Product ID: 0x6205

Drivesetup shows two devices available but system only mounts media in the 1st slot (CompactFlash). 2nd slot (SD card) is unresponsive. I've tried increasing both # of devices and # of LUNs to max, with no change.

Same problem happens under R5+BONE, so I don't think it's a Zeta issue. And everything works just fine under Win2K :(

Dell Laptop. The previous time I installed this software it worked right away - but this machine had all sorts of patches, libraries and addons already running.

After I lost my hardrive (left running all night and just died) I did a clean install of 5.0.3 BeOS to a blank drive. Added all the USB patches, links and Storage Module - This would crash my machine everytime at boot - but I knew it worked before.

Finally after alot of retries I remove all copies of BeOS's original USB code that I knew had replacements in the ~home/config/... section, and it boots fine - works great with my camera and USB FlashDrive.

Suggestion - try removing the old code instead of just renaming it. Additional suggestion, if you want the old code handy just zip it in place so you don't need to know what was where.

Well, I can't.

OS: BeOS5MaX v3b2
USB-HD: Maxtor OneTouch 120GB
UHCI-hub: Class 9, Subclass 0, Protocol 0

Installed USB-Patches
Didn't see anything in DriveSetup
Installed usb_mass-0.12
Now I see a disk in DriveSetup, but map style is "no media"
Can't do anything to it, everything is greyed out.

When using Info from usbkit, I get "Device won't verify version" when I do the hub (/dev/bus/usb/0 or 1 or 2 or 3)
(I think I got answer before installing usb_mass-0.12)
And I get "Not a usb raw device" When I do the disk (/dev/disk/usb/0/0)

But USBCommander see all 4 hubs and the disk OK.
The disk is Class 8, SubClass 6, Protocol 80
That maybe why it won't work.(ReadMe in usb_mass)
But what do I do then???

Hi,
first of all, this driver works just perfectly with my 200Gigs WD-harddisk + ide/usb-cable (could be a bit faster, but it works).
But I noticed a problem with my usb-stick. When the tracker crashes while it's copying a file to the usb-stick (or when you just remove the usb-stick during the copy-process) I can't use the full space of the usb-stick anymore. GetInfo shows something like 28.8 MB used and there aren't ANY files on the stick (trash is empty). When I format the usb-stick with a windows-machine everthing is allright again.
So..is there a tool or a tracker-addOn to format usb-devices like my usb-stick or the sd-card from my pansonic-cardreader (works also very good with this driver)???

Use PhotoGrabber for Digitalcams. There you can choose the PTP Mode for your cam and try Type 1 or Type 2 mode. (The other option is for BDCP Cams)

It works with Canon Digital Ixus i4.0 MP
