10. Does my Canon PowerShot A70 digital camera supported by this software?
* No. It uses Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP) instead of USB Mass Storage (USBMS) one. You can check your camera information for Interface class. For USBMS it should be 8, for PTP - 6.
---- end of ReadMe.html -----
There was an application on BeBits BeDigiCam or something like this. Use it with your camera.

What do you mean saying "refused to boot"? Goes to KDL? Have you installed drivers for other usb devices? Have any usb device plugged in during boot? Read the ReadMe.html for "ignore_sysinit2" settings key.

Have tried to make sense by reading other's problems but cannot. What's the next step after installing usb patches on R5.03 when it refuses to boot. I run a community radio station off a BEOS machine and USB storage is vital to manage my music library. Any advice or referals,I would greatly appreciate.

Hi,
i tried your module but it didn't work at all,
but let me explain.
I installed BeOSR5 + Bone on a brand new Centrino laptop
(intel ich6) with 4 usb2 ports.
I installed usb patch and all worked flawlessly, then
i tried your module when i noticed a strange thing:
BeOS didn't recognize plugging of new hw, except for my usb mouse, cause the entry under /dev/bus/usb NEVER changed.
Any idea?
Thank
Paolo
p.s. btw your module worked on my old laptop
with a usb2 external hd and a usb pen; the same
gear that i cannot use on my new laptop... :((

Hi,
This handycam's USB 'disk' interface (read/write to flashstick) works perfectly with these settings added to the usb_scsi file:
The 'E' BTW in the sony's typenumber tells you this is the European version of the cam.
# device 0x054c 0x002e { # Sony DV handycam DCR-TRV22E USB mass storage interface
# usb commander: subclass 255, protocol 1
vendor 0x054c {
device 0x002e {
commandset SCSI
protocol CB
}
}
Works both with Zeta and Dano this way.
Thanks again for this driver ;-)
Rudolf.

I just wanted to confirm the USB 1.1 transfer speed by this driver...
I'm getting an average of about 1.2 MB per second. But the standard says something like 41 MBps right? Or is it 41 megabits/sec?

Of course you need my info:) The machine is a ibm thinkpad x31. Under devices in preferences it says my usb controller is made by intel. As for the drives, I use a standard usb-ide cable wich works with any cd-rom. I also have a generic usb-cdrom wich came without a company logo, or name. Pretty vague I know.

The bottleneck is an USB 1.1 bandwidth - you cannot get more than it can transfer.
Auto-created RECYCLED folders: it is known problem of BeOS dosfs addon. My driver works at lower level of abstraction. It has no idea about data it transfers. :-)

The device is a USB 2 device. But I suspect that even in USB 1, it should transfer files faster.
Also I have another minor issue. Everytime its mounted (since its a FAT32 device) BeOS automatically craetes a "RECYCLED" folder in it. Can your driver help to prevent this ?

Wow wow wow!! Installing the BeOS.USB.Patches did the trick.
The iRiver mp3 player now works even through Tracker.NewFS and it even Unmounts correctly (which still doesn't work in Linux).
But the copying speed was only 1.06 MBps. Now thats much slower than in Linux. In Linux I got about 5 MBps. Could this be because of the driver or Tracker.NewFS ??
Btw, a 10 on 10 for this driver!! It's wonderful!! Thanks.

This driver works great with my usb hdd and jumpdrive. But none of my usb cdroms work. I have tried all the different command sets. What makes it difficult is that usb commander and the like dont tell me anything except its product id#. Anybody else found a workaround for this. I tried everything in the config files. I know 2 of my drives are standard usb2ide.

Should I replace ??

I think I'm in trouble...
ls -alR /dev/bus/usb or /dev/bus/scsi both only show "." and ".." AFTER and BEFORE the device is plugged in.
Btw, the device works 100% fine in Linux and so the USB port, the device itself are okay. Also I've installed it properly and I have R5+Bone (meaning Dan0) and hence I haven't EXPLICITLY installed BeOS.Usb.Patches ( I think it's already there in my system).
Here's the output anyway.
Oh and Btw, BeOS freezes about a second or two when I plug in the device.

I got this mp3 player to work in Linux. It's a standard USB mass storage device.
In Linux it's recognized as /dev/sda1 .. a scsi disk.
In BeOS tracker shows nothing, and /dev/bus/scsi and /dev/bus/usb are both empty in beos... any ideas.

Hi,
Just wanted to let you know that this device works perfectly with your driver :-)
It's a USB V1.1 device BTW.
Tested on Dano, on a USB2.0 connector that runs at USB1.1 as Dano doesn't have specific 2.0 support.

It is a good idea to look into ReadMe.html before using this driver.
The quote from "troubleshooting" section of enclosed ReadMe.html:

# I have installed this software on R5 + USB.patches but my system goes to Kernel Debugger on very early booting stage. Help!
* Edit settings file and activate the following key:

I think this should fix your problem.

I didn't bother with that stuff because I don't have a USB modem

Oh yeah... "myusbdrive" in my previous example is actually the volume label of your usb drive. The BeOS always mounts removable drives as folders in the file system root (/), named the same as their respective volume labels.

"cp" stands for copy. It has at least two parameters - source and destination and options, which are, well, optional. Examples:
cp some.file /myusbdrive
or:
cp a_myfolder/some\ name\ with \spaces /myusbdrive
this one will copy an entire directory:
cp -R /documents/myfolder /myusbdrive
Note you can auto-complete file and folder names with the TAB key - very useful for long names and those with spaces.
