I'll get you the DVD info, I'll also try it on another box to make sure
However, it does work perfectly on my 250GB (yes, 250) Belkin external HDD. Must be among the biggest disks ever used on BeOS.

A friends Fujitsu 2.5'' IDE-USB2 adapter works fine (at USB1.1 speed), but an Artec external DVD drive doesn't seem to work totally - the drive is shown with "no media" in DriveSetup when a BFS disc is in, I couldn't find another filesystem disc to check.

As it happens, there is a post further down this very page explaining this, but to restate what it says:-
"remove/disable original Zeta's mass storage modules go to directory /boot/beos/system/add-ons/kernel/busses/scsi/
and move those two files "usb" and "usb_scsi" to other safe place. After rebooting your system should work only with my module. Good luck!"
I seem to recall only moving / deleting "usb_scsi" (so I would back up both files before removing them, just in case).

Hi,
I have a news for you, i have reinstalled my BeOS on IDE partition ! and after this when i plug the USB key i can mount it, it appear into mount menu !!!! but i have the SCSI disk working too.
Remember the problem of rescan SCSI to see the key appear, it append only when BeOS partition is into SCSI drive (the boot partition) !!!

I not use the USBkit stuff in my work. I prefer "classic" direct access to USB bus manger. =-) The main problem with USBkit I have seen - is KDL on using drivers, based on it on the system, patched with USB patches. May be it is not compatible with USB v3 - No idea. =-(
yT is also not interested in cooperation with me about this mass storage stuff - I have no access to theirs system for at least testing purposes.
PS: Contact me, please, by e-mail (imker[@]gmx.li) for more detailed discussion. Thanks.

As far as I can see, the following apparent changes have occured between Dano and Zeta:
The USBKit is now contained in libUSB, no more need to statically link in USBKit.a
The ControlTransfer call in the library finally does what the header says it should do - return the number of bytes transfered. In Dano, a successful call would return zero.
Obviously this means changes are required to most code employing the USBKit besides just referencing the Zeta header file and linking to the new library. My own stuff assumed an error whenever ControlTransfers returned non-zero results.
I don't know when the change occurred, I noticed the new libUSB at a time when I already had RC3 installed. I believe to remember that some stuff using the stand-alone USBKit still worked in RC1 and even RC2.
Definitely, I'd be thankful for some information from yT, especially on any other changes that my have occurred.

It's not a driver - it's SCSI CAM module. It has nothing to do with icons etc. The drive/volume/zipdisk icons are provided by "scsi_dsk" driver - not by me. The CD icon is provided correspondently by "scsi_cd". I not control this behaviour. From other side - how can you determine which devise is camera? There is no such technical possibility to report this - only some basic types of hardware types defined in SCSI specs: non-removable disk, removable disk, CD-ROM, Printer, Scanner, CPU, Type device ... no cameras.

I had the same problem that the driver did not work reliably under Zeta RC3 (I managed to mount the Olympus xD-card sometimes, but not often).
I did not know that Zeta's driver interfered (thought drivers in ~/config/add-ons/kernel would overrule the system-drivers), but after moving them away, the driver now works perfectly!
I even wrote some JPGs to my xD-card, no problem:)
(using Olympus Camedia 765, USB 2.0, VIA KT600).
Thanks a lot!

As far as I know USB kit is not compatible with USB v3 (Dano or patched R5 versions). So, probably, a bit more work will be required to recompile this driver for new USB stack. Looks like the USB v2 compatibility layer from newest USB stack is not correct too. =-(

Unfortunately, USB mass storage support in Zeta is still broken. And RC3 becomes more brutal on this - looks like it doesn't allow other drivers to work. :-)
То remove/disable original Zeta's mass storage modules go to directory /boot/beos/system/add-ons/kernel/busses/scsi/
and move those two files "usb" and "usb_scsi" to other safe place. After rebooting your system should work only with my module. Good luck!

connected via VSCom USB2.x/Firewire Combo card. I have BeOS Pro 5 plus USB patches...installed USB storage module. I have USB connectivity! I tested by transferring a 600Mb file and two 300+ files to / from the external drive. I believe the transfer was at 1.x speed and not at 2.0. Good job!!!

Back before I got my player, I found 2 drivers for it on BeShare that looked like they should work. One of them did work semi-consistently, but when it went bad I had to reboot. If you'd like to see it, my computer will be sitting on BeShare for the next two days or so with it for download.
The usb_dev_info for the Diamond Rio 500 is as follows:

i actually got it all straightened out before your response, but thanks for the quick reply. browsing through the talkback, i found the comment about sysinit2, and that seems to clear things up. alas, my mp3 player is class 0 and the usb patches destroy the shoddy alpha-support it had, but it was worth a try.

Have you tried this on clean installation of R5?
Have you applied only first patch?
Have you any "old" USB drivers form other developers installed?
Have you this KDL problem with usb_scsi installed? Have you tried "ignore_sysinit2" in settings file?

I don't think you support the USB patch, but I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas for me:
After installing the patched USB files from BeShare, my computer reboots fine. Once. Whether I do anything or not, it fails to boot after the next time I restart it. I can only restore functionality (bootability) by removing the files and returning my computer to a pre-patched state.
Does anyone have any idea why it doesn't have a problem the first time, but does each subsequent time? Needless to say, I'd love to try out the module but can't so long as I have this problem.
Many thanks from a baffled user.

Hi! I have tried this camera in mass storage mode with PhOS b5 (with the USB patches).
In the log file it looks almost OK (appears a 'NOT_READY_LUNS: fe'), but when I try to mount it
it says 'General OS Error'. And immediately after in the log file appears something about unsupported function 82 and 83.
I've tried some of the options and combinations of options but still nothing.
Could you suggest what should I do?

If i remember correctly, Dano already has its own module with same purpose.
For Zeta people removing system's usb storage module usually helps to allow this one work properly.
Maybe it helps for Dano too.
