Hmm, this driver is GPL only, and Linux only. (it's not an "OSS driver" but a Linux driver that implements the OSS ioctls, meaning it can be used the with OSS apps).
OSSv4 has some CMedia support, not all the PCI IDs listed in the driver you point to though.
See http://manuals.opensound.com/devlists/Linux.html for the supported devices. I guess people will add more drivers.

Sorry, wrong linky... good one is:
http://www.cmediadrivers.info/driver/Linux/Ac97/cmaudio-070.tar.bz2
Considering that CMedia made BeOS drivers in the past...
I wonder if they won't allow Haiku to use the driver with a MIT/BSD license.

That would mean that we could use the driver from C-Media
(http://www.cmedia.com.tw/?q=en/thanks&d=CMI9739%20Driver)
that happens to work pretty well (better than linux's "trident" in my experience).
Note that the said driver also supports SiS7012, and several ALI, ICH and VIA card models... yummy :)

Hi, there,
Thanks so much for your reply -- and your continuing work on the Haiku driver, if I've understood you correctly. Sounds like maybe I should wait for the 1.0 release of Haiku and the driver there.
Cheers,
Jon

It should be possible to support the old audio API in Haiku. The addon is there http://svn.berlios.de/viewcvs/haiku/haiku/trunk/src/add-ons/media/media-add-ons/legacy/ and I fixed it some more, but it's not working yet, probably close to. Feel free to fix it :)
Maybe someday you will be able to use OSS instead though, depends on how the port goes.

Sorry for long delay - I was busy at my main work. :-( I overview your information. My driver is inspired by code from FreeBSD - I checked latest FreeBSD code and found no significant changes from time of last "synchronization". Unfortunately I have no idea. Frankly speaking, this project is kind freezed until I overwrite it for Haiku's Sound API. Sorry. :-|

Hi, there!
I ran the tests as described in your readme and emailed at the end of May, just to check if you had any further advice for me with this driver. I hope the tests made it through the ether to you; I look forward to any further advice you might have as to using this driver with the Fujitsu P1120, and thanks again for your great work on this driver!
Cheers,
Jonathan Dueck

No... I meant it worked perfectly insofar as I now only have one driver referenced in Media Preferences.
However, I don't hear any sound. This is true whether I plug in headphones or not. Also, clicking on the volume control, on the Deskbar, results in a long pause and no volume slider...
Thanks again for your help with this! Any further ideas?

Thanks so much! I moved the driver below as you suggested -- which worked perfectly as far as disabling the old driver went. I can now see the Ali5451/1 in and out (and None In / None Out) as the audio devices, and the ali1535 is gone, in Media Preferences.
However, when I click on the Mixer, it reports "This hardware has no controls." Any more ideas? Thanks so much for your help!

Hi, thanks for this driver! I use a Toshiba Lifebook P1120, an awesome but old little Crusoe-powered laptop. It has an ALi5451 sound chip in it which works great in Linux.
BeOS 5.1d0 (Dan0) recognizes the chip as an ali1535 chipset, and Media Preferences reports that I can choose the ali1535 DAC as an output (and ADC as input). This doesn't work -- clicking on the mixer shows "this device has no hardware controls."
When I install these SIS drivers and reboot, BeOS reports _both_ an ali1535 in / out and an ALi5451 in / out, in media preferences. I can choose ALi5451 (the correct identification) but it's main output is always muted.
I'm guessing I need to remove the old drivers for the ali1535 -- but here's the weird part, I can't find any driver with that name. There's an entry in the /dev heirarchy for the ali1535, which has 0 bytes and points to no other file. Does anyone know: am I on the right track (of removing an old driver, which might be interfering with this chipset), and if so, what the filename is of the driver I ought to remove?
Best,
Jon

As far as i know, Zeta uses this driver.
Maybe YT added some changes to code, maybe not.
For curiosity, you can try Haiku mixer instead standard, to see how it affects clicks

I tried installing the cpu_fix but the sound is still crappy. I tried disabling the "enable realtime" option, but it sounds the same. My CPU is a Transmeta Crusoe TM5800 867MHz (a FMV-BIBLO LOOX T86A FMVLT86A mini-laptop). Everything except for the sound seems to work properly.
Maybe I should give a try to Zeta. I met the Zeta guys in the Linux Expo in Tokyo a few weeks ago and it looked promising.

Have you tried "cpu_fix driver" to avoid clicks as described below?
Don't know much about Zeta and driver version they use. MAy be you should ask them directly.

I get a lot of "noise" clicks on BeOS MAX v_v ...
What about support for Zeta? It's not working for Zeta, rite?
My chipset is Ali M5451 PCI AC-Link in a Fujitsu Loox T86A mini laptop.

"Also, it would be really nice if you could add support for the "analog copy to rear speakers" feature on this chip/cards (using line-in as rear-out)."
Or maybe author will get some motivation to rewrite it for multiadio API at last?:)
To have not only blind front-to-rear copy, but also real multichannel sound, as emxuki and auvia do?

Hi. I just wanted to ask:
Is there any chance of geting recording support on the driver?
Playback works (with reduced "click" noises thans to the "cpu_fix driver"), and so does the mixer (I can hear the CD sound coming from the analog output cable, mic works too), but I'm not able to record anything from those :-(
Also, it would be really nice if you could add support for the "analog copy to rear speakers" feature on this chip/cards (using line-in as rear-out).
Thanks in advance, and thanks for this driver!
BiPolar.

This driver works great on my HP Pavilion ZE4115 laptop ALi5451 chipset. The only problem I have is sometimes I need to restart the media server after booting but it has never crashed just failed to start. Keep up the great work.
Thanks

I tried this on my SiS 7018 - and when I restarted the media services, I got a blurb of sound - but after that, it didn't seem to work...a complete restart produced no results either.
As I've been hacking around with various drivers on a BeOS Max v3 install, I wouldn't doubt if I have something screwed up. When I get a chance, I'll install a freshly-installed HD into the machine and try again. I'll probably use Max v3.1 when I do.
Since this machine is one of my spare "grunts" - I don't have a lot of time or motivation to mess with it...

When I get home, I'll try it on my ECS P6VEM3 motherboard with SIS chipset and see how it works...
Are you planning on donating your work to Haiku? I know the drivers there don't support SIS 7018/trident chipsets at the moment...
