This is fixed in the current SVN version, and will of course be in the next alpha. We're still fixing bugs for that one, so it will take a little bit longer.

We're working on a new release now, which we'll release "soon", a.k.a. "when it's ready" :)

There are a few minor things we'd like to fix first, but it shouldn't take too long.

Hi:

I use the kit on Zeta Neo, and really like it. I can't get the ICQ or AIM to work, and the MSN protocol logs me off after about 3 mins of use all the time. The yahoo protocol works perfect though...

I ran install.sh correctly, but the two IM attributes (connections and status) aren't present in attributes>person of people application!!!
I tried to reinstall the IM_KIT several times, but attributes don't appear!!
So I can't use it and I'm very sad!
Is this another way to find and to install this two attributes in the people application?
The install.sh file is it good?

Okay, I'm a bit confused about what you are after. If you mean that the attributes will not show up in the "People" application, that's normal. They won't. You can grab Snoopy (http://www.bebits.com/app/3812) written by some guy (Read: Me). That'll show those attributes, but it's a far more complex app than People.

However, if you mean that the two attributes do not show up in the Attributes -> Person menu it means you haven't installed the attributes correctly. Make sure you run install.sh

IM Kit not playing well with Zeta RC3?

If the screensaver is enabled with the password function on then the Deskbar is still running and accessible without entering your password. This happened immediately following the installation of the IM Kit (I had no previous installs). The problem still occurs even if the im server isn't running. Could this be a fluke or might it be a real bug?

im_client

It would be nice if im_server could automatically start im_client if you recieve a message. I tried sending a message to my self from BeAIM while im_server was logged on and im_client had been quit, and nothing happened. I'd like to be able to only run im_client when I'm using it, rather than having it sit there taking up a spot in the deskbar all the time (and if it set it to "background," I wouldn't be able to switch to it via deskbar when I was using it).

I'm a tad too tired but I hadn't added some of the things mentined as I had the libs already from other things. I decided to use the ones you guys made for this & it seems to have stopped the insane tracker/deskbar lock ups & CPU use. However it won't save my settings nor use them I can't log in or anything. I skimmed the docs but can't see I've missed any steps.

Great!

Great The Im_kit is starting up at boot again :D. your'e tips for sprma has has worked for me as well. I succefully added the IM_connection and IM status to the tracker! Thanks for the support. I have one more question.

In the manual they describe an "IM_Merge tracker addon" I cant find this addon anywhere! Someone got a clue?

 By m_eiman - Posted on July 2, 2004 - 09:22:45   (#13177)

erpe: It's because of a bug that causes the im_server to ignore it's settings, which means that it doesn't add itself to UserBootscript as it should. You can add it manually if you want it to auto-start, just add the line:

/boot/home/config/servers/im_server &

transam117: That's probably due to a bug in the chat app, I'll have a look at it. I think I know what's causing it.

sprma: Did you try what I asked you to in my email, remove the attributes in Filetypes, quit Filetypes, then start it again and re-add them?

Jess: Did you install the support libs before installing/running the apps? If you didn't, the reason for MSN not showing up is that it's missing the OpenSSL lib. As for the CPU usage, could you use ProcessController and check what thread(s) is/are using all CPU and mail it to me?

Just as a note there was no MSN addon in this when I installed it. Any how I installed this & my CPU useage shot to 100%. I tried a few things but it seems to really dislike my Deskbar/Tracker. I don't imagine this will be fixed if it is a problems between the two because of the Tracker I use but figured I'd report that is really doesn't like SVG Dockbert Tracker & Deskbar (Not Zeta).

Sprma,

I recall seeing your handle on the Zeta messageboards, so I must ask, are you using Zeta RC3? I was using it, but was having the same problem as you with attributes. No matter what I did, I couldn't get IM Status and IM Connections to show up. I ended up downgrading back to Zeta RC2 and it seemed to solve the problems. At first the attributes didn't show up, but then I just went under the File Types preference, double clicked on each attribute (IM Status and IM Connections) and hit "Done". That seemed to make them show up, no problems. I may try throwing on RC3 of Zeta again, but I have a feeling part of the problem lies there.

Problem contacting user with multiple screennames over a given protocol
 By trasnam - Posted on July 2, 2004 - 03:59:30   (#13172)
Current version when comment was posted: alpha 11
I am trying to make a single Person file for one person that has more than one username for a given protocol. The problem I am having is that no matter what, the message is always sent to the first username I have defined.

Take the following imaginary example...

I have an IM Connections attribute set to:

AIM:buddyhome;AIM:buddywork;AIM:buddylaptop;ICQ:1234567890;

Now, if I try to message "buddywork" from the dropdown, while I was previously talking to "buddyhome", the message still goes to "buddyhome". However, if I try to message "1234567890", it works just fine.

So the problem lies in the fact that the first buddy under a given protocol is always used, regardless of what buddy is selected to talk to.

I have no problem going back and forth between protocols and talking to the correct username, but it just doesn't work when I try to talk to the same person with different usernames over the same protocol.

This may be a feature and not a bug, but I wanted to point it out in case anyone else came across it.

You're welcome to port the protocol add-ons to net_server, it's not something we find very exciting to do ourselves, but if you want to give it a go we'll be happy to answer any questions you might have. The rest of the kit, the im_server and the clients, don't have anything non-net_server so they won't be a problem.

You can reach us via the mailing list, imkit at beclan dot org, or at #beosimkit on irc.freenode.net.

If you can't or don't want to do the coding yourself, perhaps you can encourage somebody else to do it for you?

So what good is this if it requires bone?

I've done this already... Added the attributes manually, let the im_kit do
it for me, but nothing happens.
As I said: they are obviously indexed, because your querey works just fine.

Just the Tracker won't show them in the drop-down list while in "list view". Not even in the query-windows where these attributes are shown.

Strange things happening...

Re: Attributes
 By m_eiman - Posted on July 1, 2004 - 16:57:53   (#13162)

Seems there's a bug in the attribute adder that causes this. To fix it, remove the attributes and add them again manually. The internal name should be IM:connections and IM:status, they should be strings, visible and IM Connections should be editable (not IM Status).

The adder is fixed for alpha 12, but it probably won't edit already existing attributes.

Attributes not showing

The two extra attributes "IM Connections" and "IM Status" are not in the list of showable attributes in the Tracker "complete view".
Strange enough, the query, which comes with alpha11 shows them. Even when I copy a person-file to another folder, no IM-attribute is selectable.

Any ideas?
Btw: Keep up the tremendous work! I really wish I could help...

The new version (a11) should update status for all contact files and not just the first one it finds, so even if you have two identical contacts they'll both get updated.

The im_client, the chat app, isn't really aware of this yet so you'll have strange things going on with multiple windows chatting with the same person though.

In short, having two contacts with the same connections is a Bad Idea(tm) at the moment. But it should improve with time and later releases.

I tracked down a problem I was having with the previous version to duplicate People files (old versions sitting in the trash). As a result of these my People files were not having there status set properly. If anyone else encountered this issue with the previous version just delete the duplicates. I will check whether this issue is still present in this second bebits release but wont have time to till friday at the earliest so I am posting this now so people are aware of the issue.

Kevin,

Haiku network librairies are not supposed to be BONE drop-in remplacement!
They required the Haiku net stack working below.
That's why it didn't works.

May you have installed successfully the Haiku Networking Kit, you may have reported here success. But, due to his alpha stage, I bet you'll have hit one of the several bugs remaining in Haiku net stack.

Anyway, I'm glad to learn someone(s) actually download openbeos-networkingkit-cvs.zip package (soon to be renamed into haiku-networkingkit-cvs.zip :-p )

Unfortunately, sort of, BONE is a lot better than net_server for network programming even if it kills printing.. I suppose that at least the MSN and AIM protocols could be ported to net_server, but ICQ and Yahoo are more difficult since we rely on libs ported from Linux for them. The rest of the Kit doesn't rely on anything BONE specific and should probably build just fine on plain R5. So if MSN and AIM is all you need and you feel like doing a little bit of coding, we won't mind at all :)

Should you want to give it a go, you should probably have a chat with slaad on irc.freenode.net since he's mainly responsible for those protocols and should know what to change..

I couldn't run the preflet until I moved libsocket.so and libbind.so from a couple-day-old Haiku Build Factory package into my /boot/beos/system/lib folder.

But MSN still doesn't show up, and I already have OpenSSL installed, because I did that as per the IM Kit instructions that came with a CVS build from a few days ago.
