Your Bethon lacks BQuery support. That means you're not using the right Bethon.

I got the missing pyexpat file but i could not run Hermod. When I open the Hermod application icon nothing happens. If I open Hermod application from Terminal I get the following messages:
$ /boot/aplicativo/internet/Hermod-0.9.1/Hermod
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "./apps/Hermod/main.py", line 25, in ?
import Contact.worker
File "/Mumin/home/Development/source/Hermod/apps/Hermod/Contact/worker.py", line 19, in ?
File "/Mumin/home/Development/source/Hermod/modules/people.py", line 5, in ?
ImportError: No module named BQuery
$
As I have no Mumin volume I guess it is a path for a volume on a development computer. I looked for files with that lines so I could edit them but I did not find any. Should I reinstall Hermod? Should I edit any file?
Target system is BeOS R5.0.3 Personal Edition, net_server, python2.2.

I dont use Mr Peeps (and dont like it either) and I dont think that would be a good idea.
It's something that needs to be handled in some way though, perhaps using the IM Kit attributes.
It also has some interesting problems, such as what status to show when your multi-id friends have different status on different IM neworks.

Some of my friends live on two IM networks at the same time, so normally I see them under Jabber twice. Is there any way that makes sense to have the files merged, so I only have one copy of their address/telephone information to keep current? Should other-network contacts be detected and perhaps make use of their respective dedicated IM address fields from Mr. Peeps?
That is, I have a friend who uses ICQ and MSN. Rather than his information showing up as two People files with two different JabberIDs, why not one People file where his MSN ID goes to his MSN field and his ICQ one to his ICQ field?

* Changing "color" of people files
Not likely to be implemented. IMHO it's not a good idea to mess around with something that the user might already have customized to his liking. I really dislike this "feature" of the IM Kit.
* /me syntax
Should be trivial to support. I had completely forgot about this until now ;)
* Prompt for status
You can already create your own status messages, just look in the ~/config/settins/Hermod/Preferences file. I do also intend to support temporary custom status message along with an easy way to change just priority.
* Deskbar replicant
Impossible to implement until Bethon supports BArchivable. Not a big loss anyway. You can use existing tools like QueryWatcher to easily see new messages and such. I've also been told that the next QuerytWatcher will support sound notifications wich even further diminishes the needs for a Deskbar replicant.

Looking good so far, thanks for all the work! Fell into the same openSSL trap as below, but easily sorted out.
Few obvious suggestions (people changing colour, option for main window being a deskbar applet, support for "/me " notation in chat window, prompt for status instead of using predefined phrases) but I imagine that you've already thought of all of that. Certainly seems pretty stable though.
And, even better, it's still being developed! Hurray!

1) I thought I had? Maybe it's because I didn't export or merge the two "None (icq.myjabber.net)"-style ones... I guess I should clean up my contact list. :)
2) Sweet.
3) Exactly. :)
Thanks!

1) Yah, the flood of windows can be a bit annoying although it's less annoying if you use RosterManager before going online to create all your contacts. Maybe I'll make it auto-create the unknown contacts.
2) Auto-login is planned.
3) I'll probably make it auto-minimize only if you have auto-login enabled.

Either you dont have OpenSSL installed or you have the wrong OpenSSL. Python for BONE is linked against Peter Moore's OpenSSL from bebits wich is using versioned libraries. LibPak, for example, doesnt use versioned OpenSSL libraries so Python for BONE wont work with it.

Thanks very much! Works great now! Three quickie requests to make it excellent for everyday use:
On startup:
1) No flood of windows saying that some unknown contact is not set up. Maybe a counter and then one window saying x contacts weren't set up.
2) Login automatically. (Have command-line option? I just want to add it to my bootscript like a server.)
3) Minimize automatically (to go with #2).
Woot! Then all I need to do is get Tracker to be a replicant, and we're 2/3rds of the way towards the Ultimate Deskbar. :)

Use the 0.9.1 version. Apparently shutdown() is not implemented in net_server.

So close, but:
$ RosterManager
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "./apps/RosterManager/window.py", line 59, in MessageReceived
contactlist = r.get()
File "./apps/RosterManager/roster.py", line 70, in get
self.disconnect()
File "./apps/RosterManager/roster.py", line 90, in disconnect
sock.shutdown(2)
File "<string>", line 1, in shutdown
socket.error: (-2147454967, 'Function not implemented')
After I found out the IM Kit was for BONE only, boo, but then you came along, and woohoo! Well, almost woohoo. That's what happens when I go to 'get roster'.

I like the idea of gathering all Instant Messanging in one place.
The IM Kit support ICQ, MSN, AIM and Yahoo already. Adding Jabber seem's natural.
The IM Kit is Server/Client Based. So one can create several Client front ends to fit a user interface of choise.
Writing IM Kit protocol modules in Phyton can be a problem. As I am not a developer I can not say if this is possible or not....
You could ask the dev's at their site.

I must confess, i have never try IM KIT. But i can't understand the big thing is it between a IM client. Using Tracker attribut is not a reason, just a technical issue.
Do using IM KIT that seems to work like a replicant is lighter than an app like this Hermod ?
If it is, i'm with you, but if not (sinificalty i told), i can't understand ...

I see you have the same approch using people files etc.
I think the best would be to try to implement this as a jabber module for the IM Kit.
