large and small icon mode?

I too find it great to see LaunchPad (I'm using that for years now) live on in that form. But one thing keeps me from using LaunchBox - the pad is too large for my taste. Launch pad has a small and large icons mode, and I'm always using the small icons mode. Would be great if you would integrate that along with horizontal pad layout.
Another nitfy thing would be to have a PPC version and/or the source and the focus thing Jonas mentioned.

Other than the above mentioned things, I find LaunchBox to be a great improvement over LaunchPad, really. Good work.

nice

Great to see LaunchPad live on, in this form! (LaunchPad does come with source, BTW. ;) I look forward to mini-mode and horizontal orientation.

Wishlist:

I would like for it to cache the path of an application, and use the signature as a fallback mechanism. (So it doesn't get stuck on bad duplicates or maybe .rsrc files.)

I prefer to have my pad set to avoid focus, so as to stay out of the workflow. That way it doesn't receive focus when closing other windows. (There's no visual feedback either if you've hidden the window frame, so it's hard to tell when a pad does have focus.)

The initial 'Set Description' window opens at (0,0) which would be nicer centered and a little wider. (It remembers its location though, once you set a description.)

Anyway, cool. Nice work, Stephan!

Bingo!
It's the BeShare.ppc binary that messes things up.
Thanks for that hint! All is good now.

BeShare launching works over here. The problem on your computer might have to do with my latest changes, ie the app is launched by its signature. This might be a problem if multiple instances are found on your system. Maybe the system tries to launch an instance that has a missing lib or some problem like that. Try to search for all files with the BeShare mime signature. Maybe you find something you were not aware of.

Best regards and tell me how it goes,

Minimizing <-> Background App flag

Sorry for spamming the comments... :)
Minimizing/Hiding the LaunchBox via double click on the tab isn't a good idea when the Background App flag is set: You won't be able to restore the pad... :)

Why not BeShare...

Any idea why BeShare refuses to start from LaunchBox?

Nice app.

It's officially replaced LaunchPad for me. I love how it opens documents when you drag&drop stuff on an app's icon!

Three suggetions though:
1) Set the "Background App" flag in its FileType thingy. No need to clutter the Deskbar IMO.
2) How about a setting to use the small icons 16x16?
3) The Auto-Raise feature is neat. Any chance getting the pad to hide again when the mouse pointer leaves it? I have WorkspaceSwitcher (not listed on BeBits and apparently no longer available at http://www.intuiware.com/Products/WorkspaceSwitcher/) installed just to get this "Auto back" feature for the Deskbar.

Thanks for another great stippi app!

As far as I know, yellowTAB has not incorporated SVG into the Be API in a clean way. I did try to add this feature, but I was a bit disappointed about the way yT added SVG. To me, it seems like a quick "hack" to get SVG supported in Tracker, but the existing APIs did not get updated. I don't remember which version of ZETA I tried this on. Might have been Neo. I'm waiting for Venture and then I will try again.
Adding this feature in a non-R5-compatible way might be possible, but I just don't like to do this, sorry.

Hope this explains things & best regards,
-Stephan

Autoraise is great. I have wanted to ask someone to make an app like this for a while. A few things I am requesting in addition. I would like to be able to navigate through the hierachical menus, as is possible with launchpad, if I put a folder on LaunchBox. Having an option for smaller icons, or, really, I think I might like better an autohide option. As in, touch the side of the screen where you put LaunchBox and it comes out. I don't need fancy effects when it unhides, I just like not having too much stuff on my desktop if I can avoid it. I think autohiding might be a lot of work, so I understand if you decide not to implement it soon or at all.

Also, for the newbies, you might want to explain in your readme how to make the application a background application so it doesn't show up in the deskbar when you run it. (It comes not as a background app.) I figure you know how to do this, however, I will explain here anyway, just in case, and perhaps someone might read my explanation and learn.

Right-click on the icon for LaunchBox in your Launchbox folder, and navigate to Add-ons and select FileType. A window will appear in which there is a box with several checkbox options called Application Flags. Select Background App to hide Launchbox from the Deskbar when you run it. That's it. The next time you run the application it will run free from any deskbar appearance.

I spent a few months using LaunchPad with it in the Deskbar until I learned this from BeTips. You might save some frustration for the newbies if you put it in the Readme.

Thanks again for sharing your work!

Are you running Zeta? If so, could it be that they have broken the icon API, or are simply not shipping compatibility icons (underneath their new SVG icons), so that R5 apps can continue to work correctly? When I tried Zeta, and replaced their version of Tracker with OpenTracker, I noticed that many apps had white rectangles as icons. Could that be the error you're seeing? If so, please complain at yellowTab, because I would consider it good manner for yT to maintain a certain level of compatibility with R5.

-Stephan
