Hi all, leonifan back here after a very LONG break ;-)
These links possibly refer to my old webspace - and that was well and truly screwed up by the hosting company over a year ago.
If there is enough interest, I will transfer any files I still have to my newest webspace - and maybe, just maybe... return to maintaining these tools :-)
Thanks
Mark

Thanks, I know about BeShare but found another solution in the form of an older version of Helios (1.4) I still had somewhere.
This version includes cdrtools etc. (and has a much nicer icon, BTW).
Anybody with the same problem is invited to d/l it here:

I tried to expand cdrtools.pkg.zip and read: "A problem occurred while expanding file (Unknown Error (2)). The file may be bad or the expansion rule may be incorrect".
Same thing for the latest Helios, although that was fixed by using the file linked from the Helios homepage, where it is suggested that there's a link to cdrtools, but there isn't.
Is there somebody that's serious about maintaining this application?

The file you have linked...
...BeOS does not fully extract it, it extract the majority of it, then errors.
I tested in in WinRAR on my friend's computer and it tested fine, but as soon as you extract it on there, it will error out once again.
Also it looks like source code...
How then do I compile it should I get it to extract propper?

I haven't tried burning yet as I haven't got a dvd burner at this time, but I _think_ that in order to get dvd burning working you'd need to do the following:
-Get the latest possible version of cdrtools installed
-Get the latest cdrecord-prodvd installed (I don't know about building from source but you can get both R5 and Zeta binaries on the cdrecord website)
Provided that your drive is supported both by BeOS and cdrecord, you should then be able to burn a dvd. In either Helios or JABA you should be able to set the filesystem option to dvd and then hopefully burn a disc. Please note this is just conjecture though, and that I haven't tried this. Perhaps someone who's had some luck with dvd burning could weigh in on the problem?

This is the most recent version of cdrecord
ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/alpha/cdrtools-2.01.01a11.tar.bz2
Compile this and install the cdrecord binary to /boot/home/config/bin
This is mine
Cdrecord-ProDVD-Clone 2.01.01a11 (i586-pc-beos) Copyright (C) 1995-2006 Jrg Schilling
It says DVD in it and I think it can burn dvds except I don't know how since I dont have a dvd burner yet.

When ever I try to burn a DVD in Helios, it says the 4.2Gb files are only 3xxMb.
When I try to burn, it preps the laser then just spits out my disk.
I saw there used to be a modified CDRTOOLs, but the archive in the link is corrupt.
How the heck are you supposed to burn DVD's in Be?

I have just purchased a lovely Plextor DVD burner, which can do both + and - variants of all DVDs :-)
And I have been a little shocked to discover that cdrtools not only does not support DVD-R and DVD-RW but it also does *not* support the + versions!
I have not yet tried older versions of cdrtools, but I am *very* sorry for this regrettable news.
It now becomes even more urgent for DVDPro support in BeOS (I still have not yet heard from Jörg), so I would be very grateful if everyone who requires DVD support in BeOS would send a short email to Jörg Schilling to add weight to my pledge to aid him in support issues, in return for a BeOS version of the Pro tools.
Please remember to mention my name ("leonifan" / Mark Hogben) in all correspondance relating to this, to help Mr Schilling to realise how serious I am about this.
Once again, sorry for not having been able so far to add DVD support to BeOS.
Thanks
Mark

To be fair, from the sound of it he has enough on his plate already without the extra hassle of trying an OS he knows little about (and doesn't use)...
Nevertheless, I have made him an offer to take on some support issues, in return for a build of ProDVD for BeOS. We shall see how that goes, but I'm hoping Jörg will consent to this.
I consider it essential work to get DVD burning working for everyone on BeOS. Watch this space...

I think he doesn't care about BeOS anymore.
>From me Wed Dec 31 15:06:33 2003
>could it be possible to get working DVD burning in BeOS R5 x86 too?
Well, I did not yet have the time to install BeOS....
>dvdrtools-0.1.5 doesn't seem to work.
as expected ;-)

Hmm, I too emailed him about such things a few weeks back and as yet have had no response.
I would have no problem handling the email questions and such, if he would do this. What sort of support help did he say is required? Basic usage questions, etc?
I will most likely email him again soon anyway - I need to ask him to patch in that thread priority stuff, assuming nobody has any issues with it. When I do, I'll suggest that I could do the BeOS support side, and more if it is practical (I have other things on the boil at the moment too).
Thanks
Mark

By the way, I e-mailed Jörg Schilling about doing a port of his DVD version of the tools last week (cdrecord-prodvd), and he said essentially that he was too busy. But if someone helped him out with answering tech support questions about cdrecord, he'd have more time...
