That requires an IDE driver that supports 48 bit LBA, and there aren't any for BeOS. Zeta has one, however.

can this be used to enable 48 bit LBA ?

Patching of boot script

Replacing the boot script is certainly the hard way to do it and means begging for trouble, but patching isn't that easy as the boot scripts all differ. Further, there are others that want to patch the bootscript as well so the location may be a bit hard to find. Any ideas (including working code/scripts ;) are appreciated!

smell neo ;-)

as there is a locale server and an automounter, it seems to be Neo ... The automounter is here to resolve the problem of queries starting before drives are mounted (BeMail is the big problem).

I think the pacth should be package by another way as it could break almost all the users installation...

The lines to add seem to be the following :

< #load usb controller driver to disable SMM
< /bin/ls /dev/input
<
< #this is needed to load the 48bit driver
< /bin/echo rescan >/dev/pnp/pnp_boot_helper

Maybe a patch file should be better...

From which version ?

Hum... this Bootscript is specific to something that is not beos 5 max, dano or RC3...

So do you get it from whirch version ??
Problem by example is the "automounter" command : don't exist in the release i listed...

Thanks for publishing as well!

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for not only 'fixing' with Ithamar, but also publishing this here: I'll point users at it in the future :-)

Rudolf.

Thanks a million!!

This resolves all of my issues that I had with my Radeon IGP laptop, as I can now finally use it for BeOS without the VESA lameness. Thanks for releasing this!

Great!

Thanks for this

Looking through it I noticed a reference to a "48 bit driver" - is this a 48-bit LBA extension to your IDE driver :-)
