Burned Developer Edition 2.2.1 to CDR and freezes on booting
 By alphaouter - Posted on September 1, 2006 - 23:21:11   (#20545)
Current version when comment was posted: 2.2.1
I tried booting the newly created CD and it always freezes at the middle icon in the boot sequence. This is exactly the same with Beos Max Edition v3.1b1 and Developer Edition 1.1.
I have never been able to boot any of these Beos versions since i changed my mainboard. The Beos version that I can boot is: Phosb6.
My mainboard is: GA-7n400 Pro2(REV2). It has the latest BIOS available: BIOS Version/Date Award Software International, Inc. FK, 23/12/2004.
The drive controller is: NVIDIA NForce 2 SPP/IGP ATA Controller.
This is the debug information I got with console debug turned on while booting or at least what is maybe the most relavent part:
adaptec: sim_install()
symbios: sim_install()
can't add boot driver scsi_dsk to /dev
adaptec: ********************************************
adaptec: CHIM-106 /alpha 1 /00.02.16

IDE ATA -- configure_devices: selected dma mode bad, disable dma for this device.

I am unable to disable DMA for the controller the CD drive is on, there is no option as far as I can see in the BIOS.
Booting Developer edition 2.2 in safe mode does no good either.

A changelog ?
Or atleast burn guide for windows or linux or *bsd ?
burnatonce(@windows) and cdrdao(@linux) was unable to understand format of image. Both programs can do CUEes just fine.
Just don't tell me i need BeOS to be able to burn and install BeOS :)

Pretty buggy release

It took forever to install (the author put too much crap in it).

BeOS still doesn't like 160Gigs HDs.

By Default, BDE doesn't install the Tracker with SVG. The tracker it installs is pretty buggy and I lost my Desktop a couple of times. BeThemes took the Desktop icons away, so I had to reboot to get them back. And the Media server crashed a lot too.

Not a solid release. :(

No need.

If your only intent is to get it up and running, you really don't need to download a version newer than 1.1.x they are practically the same, at least if you're new to BeOS.

Is it for me?

This is probably the dumbest question ever but... Im new to BeOS I downloaded a version from www.beosonline.com, Developer Edition 1.1? it this a newer version to that? I wondering as this version is not showing on their web site.

If it is can I Upgrade my version with this or is it a clean instal only?

Also a had a few probs burning the version i use now when in windows so is there a burning guide for BeOS, and maybe for windows users too?

Cheers,

It's for developers whose tongues can't keep up with their speech and/or who develop as fast as race-horses can galop?

You should add something, I mean - what software is included.

systematics behind the spelling?

Every further release adds another "p".
Version 3 should be Developpper Edition.
Any (sub)versions result in an additional "b" at the end.
e.g. Release 3.2 will be spelled Developppbber Edition........etc.

Problems after Burning

I have extracted the files twice...and burned 3 times, but I get a read error after each burn. I burned it first no problem, and tried to install from it. I got tons of errors on install about corrupt files. So I re-extracted it, and burned it again, turning on verify in Nero. It failed...had a read error. Tried again...slowed down the burn speed...same error at same sector. I unzipped the download with Winrar 3.41 for Windows. Burning with Nero 6.6.0.5 under XP SP2.
Any ideas?

The name should be DEVELOPER
(with only one P)
