Here's a link for BeOS r5 v4.57 of 7za. First install the version posted here, and then get this one and unzip it to your home/config/bin directory.

Let me if it works for you or not. Seems to work for me.

It's nice to see this awesome format getting BeOS updates. Something that is unfortunately not happening for RAR (probably because it's propreitory and this is not).

Keep up the good work!

Hi,

Those who use Beezer will have to wait a day or two for updated version of Beezer's 7zip handler. It's on it's way, just a little patience please :)

7zip is opensource but i think implementing BFS attribs there is BAD idea. Why? Because it's only for BFS, because each new release needs re-patching, because i seriously doubt 7zip authors will include it in official sourcecode...
Of course i have to check it yet if 7zip supports additional data with files (maybe if they plan supporting WinFS attribs...), but even then i'm not so sure about that.
IMHO much better way is to agree about some generic way for storing BFS attribs in file and adding such file to each archive (just like it is done with emails and mac IIRC). That way is generic - it works for ALL types of archives, not only one (so rar, zip, 7z, tar.gz, tar.bz... whatever You like). It's very easy to implement (i have such thing done and working here - with only small app storing BFS attribs into flattened BMessage file and changing archiver and expander rules a bit). MUCH easier to maintain. And not at all slower than "native" implementation (of course it's a bit slower but it's not visible at all - even for directory full of files and directories full of files... attribs file is created in matter of 1-4 seconds. but that of course depends on size of attribs - i don't keep whole divx movies as attribs ;).

BTW next release of p7zip is coming (though i guess You can compile it already from official source - i didn't have time yet as i was on vacations :).

True,

If BeOS attributes were coded it could be the official standard for Haiku. That would be wicked :)

Is 7zip Open source?

Impressive compression.

Just wishing it had support for BeOS attributes, so it could become the new standard compression method :-)

I think 7zip is an open-source format - so some developer might be able to do attribute support.

Once that's done, it would rock as it has wicked compression!!

beos standard?

To be beos standard and be default packager compressor it needs to support BeOS attributes

Thanks just what I was looking for

I always thought that 7z should be the compression standard on BeOS as it's simply the best compression around.

I believe it should be the standard compression for creating packages instead of zip, let zip enjoy it's retirement plz.
