Do not use the ZETA Tracker.
If you want to do smooth work between two worlds (QEMU and ZETA), use the Tracker.NewFS. With the Zeta Tracker you cannot handle the QEMU window like a normal window. If you do fast things, the tracker crashes. Furthermore directories and folders open slowly with ZETA Tracker. Tracker.NewFS doesn't show me that QEMU needs power. :)

I'm currently working on a recurrence option. I don't know yet how exactly it will look like, as the Tracker will not support this nativly. I'd like to avoid a GUI completely, but it wouldn't be a big deal. People is pretty much the GUI for people files even though you could edit them completely within the Tracker.

This is excellent, very Be.
IMHO, all it needs to be a seriously useful scheduler is a fourth attribute which can be set to the name of any executable (with the action defaulting back to the alert box if left unset); and a fifth attribute with a few possible values - hourly, daily, weekly etc - to reset the event to run again at the next appropriate time. Left unset, it's a oncer.
Please don't use the body of the event file for scripts. The fourth attribute would be far more powerful, and it would leave the text container available for notes. I like being able to make an event just by converting the file type of any text file or clipping.

On the old BeClan Wiki we had a discussion about the file format that should be used but the wiki was trashed by spammers. I'd started the discussion for just this purpose: multiple apps utilizing a singular file format (Event Files were meant to be extremely similar to People Files). A number of people had thown input into the discussion, I'll see if I can find a copy somewhere and post it.
On that note: I highly suggest moving to an attribute based system and contacting slaad about what he's using.
Oh: Good work!

It is OK to have multiple apps that do the same thing (in different ways), but please try to agree on common attributes so that there is compatibility at the file level.

You guys should pool your talents and go for the Big One: having your scheduler be *the* Haiku R2 (or even R1?) scheduler. :)

Looks like you beat me to releasing something like this. I've been working on a similiar system using QueryWatcher and Snoopy.
Same concept though, all attributes. I've got some special Snoopy addons for it though, participants and file lists, status sliders, time controls, etc. It also handles application launching and repeating of events (ie. Repeat every 2 weeks. Using the same casual dates as you use).
An oooold (from last year) article about it / Snoopy;

i like how simple this is. that said and like other said, it can keep it's simplicity and be more usefull by using script.
The way i would implement that is as text, using the file as the container as he seem empty right now. Using an attibute for that would not be good as script can be long and have many line.
The other thing that would need to be added is a set of attribute to act as preference panel (no need for GUI). They would be "script" and "alert". Both could take value like 1 or 0 or on and off (with capital letter variant). That way you could disable easily a script without having to delete it and it would also allow disabling the alert window in case you want to implement a custom one with a script.
having those paramater in attribute instead of the file itself make for faster acces, simpler acces and give a quick sort option.
I also think a GUI is not needed at all, TheSheduler do that real well if you want something less tracker like.
And one last thing, it would be nice to be able to create them anyplace, not just in a special folder. If the way the app work make that impossible, perhaps allow directory linked to the Event dir act the same. A bit like folder linked in beshare Shared get also shared. Would not be usefull that much for casual event, but if you want to monitor aniversary, friend availability schedule, tv show etc... just one dir may become messy. Of course it could be possible to add a category attribute and get away with it but it's nice to be able to have a hierarchical sorting option let open.

I will definitely be using this during the school year. :) I might add an option to launch files at specified times, although I could probably use theScheduler for that.

Sorry, but this application explicitly uses the Tracker as frontend to not require any GUI.
I first wanted to go with a BMessage as an archive of the events and a simple, one window GUI. But why would I want to write a GUI if there is one? And why would I "hide" the events in an archive so that the user has to open an extra editor to do anything?
This aims to be as simple as possible, so I went with an already present GUI and just wrote the backend. Additions like running scripts when using a shebang as "What" are things I'd rather consider.
To easily view upcoming events you could by the way use queries. First make an index for the when field ("mkindex event:when" from a Terminal) and then create an attribute query.

Hey, I had a cool idea to go with this, make a replicant that sits on your desktop showing the days of the month and highlights up and coming events.
