On the I'll Host It issue--Great To See It's Working

FWY, when the domain issue happened, that other site was temporarily pointed at reqblaster, a fantastic service without reqblater's permisison--reqblaster is a terrific service that does exactly what they say and not affiliated with that other site

So it's great to see that the domain's working and the domain redirect is resolved. Glad to see that everything is working

website news - illhostit no more

Just reporting that the domain illhostit.com seems to have been bought out, same goes with my hosting. I just noticed today, it must of happened between Mar 25 and today (last google cache).
Since the quickfox website is a sub-domain of illhostit, it's gone as well. Ever since the original owner of illhostit sold out to another company, they only lasted so long and then the new guys are gone as well (I never liked them too much). Along goes the free image hosting at illhostit.com also. It's stupid I didn't get an email about this, I havent contacted the admins yet, hopefully they're contactable. Looks like I will have to register a real domain and find another pay-host. Maybe quickfox.be ? Google cache here:
http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:VaNj3_aVkhgJ:quickfox.illhostit.com/+illhostit&hl=en&gl=ca&ct=clnk&cd=3&client=firefox-a

All previous download links are gone, so don't change all your links to my site until I report with a fix to my problem. Thanks for the patience, BeOS fans of QuickFox!

Could be AGMS file system packer. Sometimes it will kdl when it starts up. AGMS says he is working on making a more stable version. Make sure you're using BONE as well.

QuickFox KDL'd me the first couple times I used it. After that, I had to just remove it in all its entirety from my system.

So finally i see you've gotten around to removing the bootup/shutdown sequences for a browser.... I always felt no program (esp. not a browser) should need to have anything to do at startup/shutdown of a computer.

So I might give this a try now.

Dont use it. I am not going to give new reasons, I just dont trust it. Furthermore there is a nice effort by the real FF team to bring us this browser.

Accusation:
QuickFox has most of its security settings disabled

Truth:
It has all default security settings 'enabled' including: SSL 2.0, TLS 1.0, SSl 3.0 . Check for yourself on a fresh install of QF.
I have disabled only the 'IE newb' security warning/nag dialogs doesn't mean that the security features on Firefox are disabled themselves.
For example, I use these to get rid of the annoying messages:
user_pref("privacy.popups.disable_from_plugins", 3);
user_pref("privacy.popups.firstTime", false);
user_pref("privacy.popups.showBrowserMessage", false);
user_pref("security.warn_entering_secure", false);
user_pref("security.warn_entering_weak", false);
user_pref("security.warn_leaving_secure", false);
user_pref("security.warn_submit_insecure", false);
user_pref("security.warn_viewing_mixed", false);

Do the research yourself on these settings, and make an objective judgement as wether this allows me to get your passwords (a ridiculus assumption, to say the least!)

I do have the sanitise feature customised, but only to clear the cache after you exit (enabled on shutdown)
At anytime the user wants to clear his data he can do into the tools/options/security and for each tab click 'clear' for each.

Also, if you're so sure that 'the author' (boogie boogie, you're afraid to say Mr. X, like it's Lord Voldermort now?) has asked for people's profiles on BeShare, back it up. Also, it does not provide evidence for malicious activity of any sort.

It has most of its security settings disabled and the "sanitize browser" function doesn't do anything. The 'author' has been seen on BeShare asking for peoples profile dirs

Take from that what you want. I wouldn't touch it with a 40 foot bargepole personally.

nope - not malware, this is lie propagated by mean-spirited BeOS users

I don't want to waste my time trying to defend myself such on issues like this but we have some 'ugly' BeOS users around here that would like nothing better than to see a fellow user be crushed, by falsefying information and using propoganda tactics:

* The straw man argument: attacking a position falsely attributed to your opponent
* The reverse straw man argument: falsely attributing a straw man argument to your opponent
* Bracketing: mentioning a position of your opponent, but surrounding it with other positions so as to discredit it.

I am yet to compile a complete list of the perpetrators, the incomplete can be found here:

Contains mainly comical content, but based on my experiances.

MR Tech Local Install, bookmarks toolbar
 By BeOS Mr X - Posted on December 14, 2005 - 14:10:41   (#18601)
 Current version when comment was posted: 2.2
Simply go into /QuickFox/profiles/chrome and open userchrome.css and delete the contents, save and exit. next time you start QF it will appear.

The MR Tech Local Install doesnt seem like something I would like to include, but next version of QF will include the 'removed install delays' when installing themes/extensions
(we all know what a nuisance these are ! )
But the MR Tech utility install came up with this idea first, but is limited to windows. Not anymore !

No Bookmark Toolbar?!

I have installed QuickFox and noticed that there is no toolbar! Is this a bug, workaround or what?

Little hint: with the "MR Tech Local Install" plugin you can turn off the version control of each "incompatible" plugin you want install !!!

thanks to beos-mr.x, who had a great idea with his quickfox-doing.
i deleted the entries in ...userbootscript and ... usershutdownfinishscript and created a separate script with xicon-icon on the desktop to start,save or end the quickfox, as i like it. with my 1GB-RAM-laptop it runs very quick.
here a sample (who can do it better, should it do).
sorry, for only german text-strings.

problem being: forget to uninstall or install related problem. what happens is that the 'start-up' portion inside the userbootscript has been dupicated, therefor causing AMGSFileSystemPacker to set up twice, and this crashes the tracker (symptoms being as when you click to start QF, tracker crashes, or when you go into navigate the QuickFox directory) . Simple go into /boot/home/config/boot/Userbootscript and remove the extra portion of these lines of code:
rm /boot/home/Desktop/QuickFox
AGMSFileSystemPacker CreateFilesystem ; cd /QuickFox ; mkindex BEOS:APP_SIG ; unzip /boot/home/QuickFox.zip
ln -s /QuickFox/MozillaFirefox/firefox-bin /boot/home/Desktop/QuickFox
ln -s /QuickFox/MozillaFirefox/firefox-bin /boot/home/config/be/Applications/.QuickFox/.QuickFox

After this QuickFox should function normally and the tracker behavior back to normal.

Buggy, but a Nice Effort

A "quick" summary of the issues that I just experienced with QF 2.2.

Forgets theme settings on reboot. Crashes when attempting to import bookmarks. Replaced the profile.ini file for my exisiting firefox and deleted the .ini file when quickfox was removed. Broke all the lib.so links for my regular FF install and did not restore them upon removal. Locked up all apps on my system requiring a hard reboot.

Some of us actually like the Bookmark Toolbar Folder. ALL of my bookmarks reside there.

This is BeOS, no MacOS, so consider a theme that looks appropriate.

But yes, it did load up quickly...
and Kudos on actually including a working uninstaller.

I'm also curious as to why QF only appeared on my rebooted desktop after the unzip function had been run by itself.

In ZETA, Japanese and Chinese are supported out of the box, so you do not have to add anything.

In BeOS, for Japanese, you need the "BeOS R5 Japanese Input" (http://www.bebits.com/app/2680), which will install the Japanese font Haru for you. I don't know about Chinese support in BeOS, but it may be that Haru allows you to view Chinese as well (I am guessing though).

when the STATIC versions come updated (currently the dynamic types do not fair well on ramdisks, and, well, I don't like them at all) BONE and netserver versions up to 2.3 will come out. I encourage all to try out QF 2.3 for Zeta OS, and talkback either on my email or on BeBits.

It has to do with R5 because when I was using it in PhOS (R6 or Zeta) the characters displayed correctly. I am not sure what needs to be installed to fix this on R5.

Did a clean install of BeOS5PE and used Net+ before installing QuickFox2.2. Am Very Impressed with the Ease of Installation and lack of Major Bugs!

While I have used QuickFox for only a few days have not had any problems!

Especially like the fact that most of the Windows FireFox keyboard shortcuts actually work on QuickFox!

Good Work!!!

Am mainly a Windows user so do not enjoy jumping through unnecessary hoops.

My best complement is that the install is as easy as a Windows.exe app and while have used it for only a few days, so far have not run into any bugs.

As result will have to agree with all the others that Quick Fox is the best Be browser I have ever used!

Was finally able to download QuickFox directly from its website and it is everything and more that users have been saying!!!

I have tried all the BeOS Netserver Browsers and QuickFox is the Best!!! Also the easiest to install!!!

I did a clean install with only Net+ and QuickFox imported all my Net+ favorites!!!

Must say Real Progress has been taking place for BeOS Browsers!!!

Might be the Zeta 1.1 Update.

So I installed again Beezer 0.08 in Zeta 1.1 and I hav no problems so far.

Must be the Zeta 1.1 Update that caused the problem.
To update Zeta to 1.1 I dont want to try...

anyway Beezer is great and QuickFox too.

Well, Beezer 0.08 isn't a Zeta build and isn't meant to be run on Zeta, thus I can't say if Beezer 0.08 is causing the problem.

Hmm, and I don't think QuickFox uses "expander" app to do its unzipping at bootup,..

I am using Zeta Ver.1.1

If you dont have problems with Beezer..

...it might be the Zeta Update that made the problem. I will try to check it again.

Zeta is using Beezer ver.0.4 with localisation. I installed ver. 0.8 too. I thought because QuickFox is decompressed from its QuickFox.zip file everytime after booting it might not find the expander anymore...

that is definately stange, I have Beezer installed, and registered the mime types as well - But QuickFox operates as normal. Where you using the BONE, or Netserver version ? Maybe one or the other is effected by this. I use the BONE version.

Strange.

All Beezer does is register archive file types, and I don't know exactly how QuickFox is related to it, as I haven't tried QuickFox yet.
