Bookmarks import...

I still give a 10 to his brainwork and improvements.

I give a 10 to his addings not to the port itself.

The app is fast, stable, good looking and the tab browsing is working.

The only thing I could not figure out is that Firefox is crashing while trying to import bookmarks. So there must be some sort of confusion with older versions or paths.

It does not mess with the bootscript and things.

The installer adds these four lines to the UserBootscript

rm /boot/home/Desktop/QuickFox
AGMSFileSystemPacker CreateFilesystem ; cd /QuickFox ; mkindex BEOS:APP_SIG ; unzip /boot/home/QuickFox.zip
ln -s /QuickFox/MozillaFirefox/firefox /boot/home/Desktop/QuickFox
ln -s /QuickFox/MozillaFirefox/firefox /boot/home/config/be/Applications/.QuickFox/QuickFox

And the UserShutdownFinishScript

rm /boot/home/Desktop/QuickFox
cd /QuickFox/ ; zip -r /boot/home/QuickFox.zip profiles

This is so it saves your settings on shutdown and pulls them back up on boot.
That's all, nothing to be afraid of.
And the uninstaller removes the above when you use the uninstaller available on the QuickFox bebits page.

>> Not saying Mr.X gave/didn't give credit <<

Just thought I'd comment on how important credits are.... When a developer spends his time and effort producing something, giving credit is by no means childish. Being a coder myself I know how bad it is when you're not mentioned after hardwork being done...

Just a friendly reminder **in case** credits aren't given. No hard feelings...

BTW -- I don't think I'll ever try QuickFox because I'm too scared as it messes with Bootscript and such and I have way too much important stuff on my system :)

Is there someway you can AVOID messing with the Bootscript and things? I heard it even does "unzip" on boot... that doesn't sound too nice :)

Anyway, since so many people find it good! Keep up the good work!!!

Love it

Not sure what is this all conversation about, but I love the app. It is nice and works perfectly. The appearence is not very Beish, but hey, its a quickfox. Love it a lot.

"I am sorry your precious ego has been hurt."
I don't think there is any of my unpublished patches here in this build. Most of those are tqh's patches.
So my ego wasn't hurt.
But tqh's was really hurted once by almost same behabiour of YT, when Bernd "assigned" all improvements made by tqh to YT. It least people got such impression from Bernd's unclear style.
As result tqh almost dropped REAL FF development.

So try to be really honest and not childish - with kind of bragging and asking people for certain number of downloads and mess of "improvements".

Describe clearly real difference made by YOUR work, and people will be grateful.

Please, at least be polite and use private email.
That's what it is for.
I am sorry your precious ego has been hurt.
But its time to act like mature adults now.
And I do give credit on the bebits page.
Its a mod , that means I just improved on something that has potential.
It's not worth wasting your effort on petty matters, as it will just wear you down and you will have no time to do important things, like good support for applications and making it the best it can be.

Enjoy QuickFox :)

Pls. fix info to avoid SCAM impression

Put there description of work you really done separate
of work done by others.
Phrases "My half-done work on NSPR" are very confusing,
because this isn't work of publisher, Mr. X.
And so on and so on.
Sure, you may list patches/changes you included in this build, but keep it in correct form.

Vote it please...

Its really just a tweak I did on the userchrome.css file.
Go into /QuickFox/profiles/chrome

open userChrome.css delete everything in there. Now its back to plain old normal, but maybe some people like that :)

Enjoy.

Mr. X is either confused about the difference between Java and JavaScript support, or he is deluded as to the state of the Java port in progress via Andrew Bachman and Bryan Varner. It will be quite awhile before the Java port is complete, and some time after they have it to where they believe it is fully implemented for BeOS before Sun certifies it, because that's a requirement there.

Now, if someone somehow suddenly comes up with a third-party implementation of the complete Java system (yeah, right: that's a HUGE thing to replicate! BeOS has some interesting differences and quirks compared to anything it might be ported from) just *maybe* that will happen without Sun and the currently authorized Java porters are involved. As of this time, Mr. X has *ZERO* capability to make any promises for Java, even if he was a programmer and knew what he was doing. He isn't under NDA with Sun, isn't involved with the Java port, and most certainly has no special friendships with Bryan Varner and Andrew Bachman :) and I know they certainly aren't going to give out a copy of that to him, or anyone else. While I watched them demonstrate it at WalterCon, it is still clearly incomplete, though they were running Yahoo Games as part of their demonstration :P

Zeta ver1.0

I had QuickFox Ver.1 installed before and with some tweaks it was working very nicely.

But now with the QuickFox Ver.2.0 I had no problems installing it. Maybe because the older Version? But after starting it I realized I cannot import bookmarks nor can I work with the Bookmark manager. Some problem here? Hopefuly it is only something like a wrong symlink or like this. Help is much appericated since I really love this browser.

V1 had issues.
V2 works great.
Had to run uninstall script.
Should also note 2 things:

Since this is 1.6a1 Deer Park build themes are limited,
and extensions like taskbar weather broken.

Second, QuickFox appears to modify Settings and the original FireFox is broke. It would be nice to have both available untill QuickFox has more extensions and themes.

As always I'm the envy of my colleages when they see my machine running.

When are we going to see a Java beta so I can run some of the Yahoo Games?

Im very sorry, I am not a programmer so I do not understand what that debug means.

I was trying to hunt down kraton's email address to ask him how he got his to work on Zeta. But I coudlnt find it. Perhaps he can share in more detail ?

So far most issues seem to be with the Zeta tracker and QuickFox. Maybe its because the zeta tracker is not used to having apps loading and running in a ramFS ? Im not sure.

And that 'all scrips are not marked as executales' I am not understanding completely what you mean. Please email me regarding that.

Maybe you can try using an open tracker version? I use tracker.NewFS. Maybe it works on Zeta. Maybe it does not. I can't tell cause I dont have Zeta.
Try it here:
http://www.bebits.com/app/1567
(ps- I used my handy BeBits searchplugin to get the results)

and btw update on net_server version:
I am not too sure about it because there is an old old version on the mozilla/bleeding edge page and I think it may be too slow in comparison with QuickFox 2.0 but I can sure give it a try if the internet wants me too.

Hmm, I tried that EasyMove add-on. I like it. But no freezing problems here. Maybe its because you're on zeta or something. Oh well, I don't have zeta to test it on.

I don't have an exact solution, but you could ask the maker of 'EasyMove' .

Sorry about the link, I think it used 4GB of bandwidth already :P I will re-post it and then start finishing QuickFox v2 (btw it is around 9MB this time)

Version 2 will include a proper uninstaller for QuickFox v2. It added some lines to userbootscript and shutdown scdript so I need to get an uninstaller to get rid of these cause version 2 has more optimised scripts.

If you need to get it to load after you install it, go into the BeMenu then applications, QuickFox and hit 'load quickfox without reboot' this will set it up. Version 2 I will have more instructions as I don't think I was very clear on version 1.

Good news: r|z has personally emailed me a new version of iFOX that supports 1.6a1 !! Now I can implement this into the next version.

I wouldnt recommend it to be used on non-R5's . I havent tested it on that so you can either just take apart the .pkg and use the parts you want to get it to work or something.

If you have the utility 'uninstall' it will get rid of most things but I wouldnt recommend manually uninstalling as version 2 will include a seperate uninstaller that takes care of everything.

I hope all of you are enjoying QuickFox :)
