I read earlier comments that one had to mess around with Python to get this going, well, I'm here with Zeta R1.1, and it ran without messing, first time, the interface is responsive and quick.

Rendering times are reasonable, though I suspect that with Hardware OGL helping to take the strain, they would be superb.

The app itself has not for me at least crashed out and with the various pre made blend files I've found online has not borked a single one of them.

I'm damned impressed with this, keep up the good work, this is a stunning peice of software that anyone into 3d modelling should seriously consider looking at.

Good luck for all...

Why we want source now.

I (and some ather) need this source, because we want to try make the real BeOS version of blender. I dont understand why you don't publish source of this version of blender now.

available or not available

It is only not available here on bebits.

It is or will be available in the CVS at www.blender3d.org

Go there and read the forum posts.

Why...

The source is not available because it will be in the blender repository anyway. So if you could please be a bit more patient, instead of telling what the GPL says again and again and again?!

I know that it is GPL! And the blender people have said nothing against this distribution. I asked them before publishing how this release gets published.

What do you wanna do with the source anyway? Streneously set up a build system, get SCons to work, arrange everything so stuff compiles? Ridiculous! Sorry, that's the only thing I can say about this "rant".

File a request and you can have it, and then you can bake a cake with it. Blah, the license says it. And If I say jump from a bridge you jump? Or what do you not get about the statement that the source "will be in the repository soon"?

Michael

yeah

adamk is right. according to GPL, users of derived work should have access to sources (diff against original code, actually). So it should be something rather "Sources available by request" in donload section, instead "Sources not available"

No offense...

But if he wasn't prepared to make the source available yet, he shouldn't have made the binary available. The GPL is quite clear in that once you distribute a binary of a GPLed application, you either need to distribute the source or make the source available upon request.

Mind you, I'm not looking for the source myself, just pointing out what the GPL says.

Wow

The speed of this application under Zeta is amazing - I was amazed at how quickly things happened. An excellent port Michael, seems that the interface is faster than the windows version (only used both versions for 5-6 minutes, since for the life of me, I cannot figure it out). Once HW OpenGL arrives, this port will be smoking...

I've noticed that some applications which exist for both Windows and BeOS, are much more fluid (responsive) under BeOS. ie. Gobe Productive, Firefox, and now Blender. Great things await this OS once Haiku arrives.

just read the infos to blender

Documentation and Blendersources are at www.blender3D.org and as Michael wrote his code has to be checked by the blendercrew. So you'll have to wait...

Michael wrote:

I can not and will not provide any BeOS R5 package as I virutally don't have the time nor a BeOS R5 installation.
When my patches got reviewed and made it into the blender repository everybody is welcome to give it a try."

Wonderfull surprise...

I had to download python to make blender run...

To install python you have to extract its contents and then open the terminal and cd to the location you extracted the python files.

or use the terminal add-on..(quicker)

Then you have to run the install.python file. After this all the needed python files are instlled to their locations, you may now delete the folder you extracted python. Good luck. Read the install text in the python folder.

It's great to be able to use blender with BeOs again.

Long awaited...
