vmw_mouse under VMWare Server - BAD

So, anyone experiencing the bad mouse behavior when attempting to use vmw_mouse under VMWare Server 1.0.x - I understand your pain.

I had a hunch that the non-UI-responsive protocol used for VMWare server might be causing some of the problems - so I uninstalled it, installed VMWare Player 2.0.2 and it's nearly perfect.

In other words VMWare Server 1.0.x is NOT compatible with BeOS, but VMWare Player 2.0.x is. I have not tested VMWare Server 2.x beta - maybe it fixes the problem also.

Cool. Fusion is the only solution i had today to run Zeta at home (PC hardware too recent for it)

OK thanks, but the sources are only in the Zeta version, not in the R5 version. I'm guessing they are the same ?

Since I've got the same problem as Nutela ("Only pseudo movement on Host OS Win XP, guest os R5.03 Pro, VMware server console"), I was thinking about recompiling it, or -if there is one- compiling a newer version...

cursor movement doesn't get updated, clicking works but for 'pseudo movement' I have to press ctrl+alt to release the cursor and click again and move the mouse to make the cursor 'warp' to the spot where I moved the mouse...

How do I link to these tools when I can see/mount the host's HDD?

I'm installing zeta right now but it's sooooo slow. Gfx are greyscale : ( How come Haiku is so much faster in VMware?

e1000-ethernet-card
ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000"

AMD-ethernet-card
ethernet0.virtualDev = "vlance"

VMXnet-ethernet-card
ethernet0.virtualDev = "vmxnet"

you can also add more than one card, so use
ethernet0.present = "TRUE"
ethernet1.present = "TRUE"
ethernet2.present = "TRUE"
ethernet3.present = "TRUE"

and I think there is only VMware-SVGA

and sound gets detected but doesn't work propper
either sound.virtualDev= "sb16" or
sound.virtualDev= "es1371"

Thanks,

The change in settings and vmx file did the job. And the installed tools work fine.

another question though: any advise for the video driver? after my update to 1.1 the image color is bad .. also i can't seem to change the settings to say 1024*7068. Any advice?

yes NIC works

choose NAT as network connection
you have to change the vmx file
after the line
ethernet0.present = "TRUE"
write
ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000"
here is an example http://www.thaler-online.com/zetawiki/index.php?title=VMWare-Beispiel-Konfigurationsdatei

Especially with this 'vmw_mouse thing' the Emulation of ZETA 1.1 with VMWarePlayer is a snap! It works really good and its a good handling when switching between the host and the guest OS.

good idea

Tools like this help out.
I was going to get a good beos vmplayer image up instead of a qemu image that I was playing with. I'm sure someone will get that done soon.
