thanks to johndrinkwater and mmlr we now have full screen support and a better mouse handling in svn(sorry didn't see your patch john)
only problem with full screen are that when moving from window mode to full screen the mouse some how drops and you will probably need to reboot, but after that you have full screen.

Hi,
Anyone using the nVidia 3D driver should upgrade to SVN 2D driver V0.76: there's a big speed improvement. GPU now works at 140-200% speed on GeForce cards.
Of course, if the current speed-limit on your system is because the CPU is at 100%, you won't gain that much, instead maybe 10% depending on app you run.
2D driver 0.76 is compatible with Alpha4 BTW.
TNT1/2 users: If all is right I'll do a SVN commit soon (V0.77) that also increases speed on TNT2(M64) cards: about 1-4% speed increase there. TNT1 stays at same speed BTW.
The speedups were done by updating the 2D driver's engine init code: it turns out that was not optimal yet :-)
That's all.
Rudolf.

Sound is oly making noise and the mouse, although faster is still slow to respond
Any reason the arrow keys don't work?
Other than that the video works for the most part, although it's also lagging.

Keep up the great work!

Hi everyone,
I took the time and liberty to fix up sound playback a bit (still not perfect) and input handling (you can type ingame now). I also lowered the priority for the main thread so that the mouse does not lag behind that much.
I've sent the patches to the publisher and hope that they will be put into svn. In the meantime you can get a BONE binary there:

I got it to work, installed my key file, point release etc. I am still wondering why it worked the first time with out the keyfile (I hit out of the key thing and then played) and without the pointrelease files (just following instructions from readme), but then it wouldnt run again because of the cfg error.
This is how to display the Frames Per Second display.
Edit the q3config.cfg file, ad this line at the end and save.
cg_drawFPS 1
I get 19fps.
Another thing - the mouse movement is equal to a retarted oompaloompa running high on shrooms. I think this quake3 for beos was released out of desperation, because that's the most important part of the game. It's very incomplete and should of not been on bebits and stayed in beta testing until it runs at least %95 useable, right now its %50. Aiming with the keys is gay!

Rudolfc: i've managed to compile from source, i've done nothing special* to my install (short of having a working Haiku build system)
*My system was missing glext.h, but I used the file from the mesa source
This morning (before I knew about the hint from mmlr, ty!) I made a zip of all the paks from the point release, available here http://www.nextraweb.com/haiku/Quake3-paks.zip
So install is easy;
download Quake3 from bebits
copy pak0.pk3 from quake3 CD to /boot/home/.q3a/baseq3/
unzip Quake3-paks into /boot/home/.q3a/baseq3/

I tried to get the demo running (again from the linux package) but it doesn't seem to work. It searches for the demo files in ~/.q3a/demota but when I move the pak there (in the demo it's called demoq3) it complains about a corrupted pak file. Could be my download is broken though.
If you want to try yourselfs or get the pointrelease pak files to get the full version going I suggest going to:
ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/quake3/linux/
Use "Save link target as" on the linuxq3apoint-1.32b-3.x86.run file or the demo.
You can run those files in BeOS, you don't need Linux by the way.
For the demo package use "-keep" and for the pointrelease use "--keep" when running it from the Terminal. This generates a folder where you can get the pak files from.

Hi,
these point releases give you pak1-pak8 AFAIK. You'll also need pak0 from a game CD, and a CDkey.
That's all as far as I know.

Anyone BTW succeeded in compiling the source themselves? I am trying, but failed. I get this message while linking (I think):
cannot find -lGL
I was hoping to tweak a bit myself...

You can also just download the linux version:
ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/quake3/linux/linuxq3apoint-1.32b-3.x86.run
And run this in Terminal with the "--keep" switch. The embeded install script will fail, but it should put a "setup.tmp" folder into where you have run the script (i.e. /boot/home/setup.tmp). You can get the pak files from the baseq3 folder and copy them over to /boot/home/.q3a/baseq3. This worked for me with the original Quake 3 Arena CD from which I copied over the pak0.

From your debug output, it shows you're lacking some pk files - you need pak0 to pak8 for this version of Quake3. As Rudolfc said, the latest point release contains them.
Without the right files, Quake3 will then try for demo mode, and then it cant find any files (looks in ~/.q3a/demota/), hence the couldn't load default.cfg error
/boot/home/.q3a/baseq3/pak4.pk3 (272 files)
/boot/home/.q3a/baseq3/pak3.pk3 (4 files)
/boot/home/.q3a/baseq3/pak2.pk3 (148 files)

The problem is that the demo datafiles ar to old.
so demo will not work (same problem on linux.)
I tested to install the latest point release and move those pak's but the problem stiill exist.
so the only way are to by a copy of Quake3 Arena (I did last night for 14 euro)
